What’s it like to work in Zurich?
Google Zurich is the largest Google engineering office outside of the US. We call our office the “real mountain view” since you can actually see the Swiss Alps from our office. The Zurich office has Googlers from every corner of the globe – 67 countries at last count. Our engineers work on problems in a variety of areas including distributed systems, information retrieval, machine learning, algorithms, UI, novel search features, and scalability problems of huge amounts of data and a rapidly increasing user base. Our products reflect the Google principle: we put the users first. As in all Google Engineering offices, we love academic endeavors and active learning, and we encourage engineers to spend 20% of their time on their own projects.

Applications
We focus on the backend technologies behind Gmail and Calendar – both high-impact products that millions of users utilize daily. We strive to make Gmail and Calendar faster and better by regularly adding new features.
YouTube
As the world’s largest online video community, millions of users watch YouTube and and make movies on every possible subject using devices ranging from computers to mobile phones. Google Zurich works on many of the features and tools that make the YouTube experience simple and easy. Features like video uploading, APIs, reporting tools and video annotations – a feature created by an engineering intern – are run out of Google Zurich.
Geo/Maps
Zurich’s Geo Engineering team works on infrastructure, search, and front-end features of the most comprehensive virtual atlas on the Web. In addition to the core infrastructure for Google Maps, the Zurich offices also works on some more specialised projects like Transit, Panoramio and Places.
Search Quality
We fight spam, block porn and support Safe Search – the feature on Google Search that allows users to control the level of filtering they see in their web results. The bottom line is our Search Quality team makes the web friendlier for users of all ages.

Zurich City Life
If you enjoy living in a lively city atmosphere with an international flair, trendy cafes and restaurants close to the great outdoors – you will love living in Zurich. Our office is just minutes away from picturesque Lake Zurich where Googlers often enjoy a picnic or a swim after work in the summertime. You can also hike, bike, sail, para-glide in the Alps … and the closest ski resort is just a 45 minute train ride away. We have some of the best chocolate in the world, as a well known Swiss chocolate factory is just up the road. Zurich has been rated as one of the top 10 most livable cities in the world, year after year.
