Ein Tauchkolben Cb, Fig. 1 bis 4, steht in einem entsprechend langen Cylinder Cy mit Stopfbüchse St und ist mit einem Kopf Pk versehen, von welchem ein oder mehrere Tragseile oder Lastketten S ausgehen. Soll die Last gehoben werden, so mufs der Kolben abwärts gehen, und soll sie gesenkt werden, so mufs der Kolben durch den Wasserdruck gehoben werden. Das Gewicht des Kolbens ist so bemessen, dafs durch dessen Niedersinken die gegebene gröfste Last gehoben wird. Der Querschnitt des Kolbens ist dem gegebenen Wasserdruck und der gröfsten Last entsprechend. In Fig. ι ist eine Construction ohne Einschaltung einer Rollen- oder Hebelübersetzung dargestellt, bei welcher der Kolbenhub gleich dem Hube der Last, sowie das Gewicht des Kolbens, abgesehen von den Reibungswiderständen, gleich der zu hebenden gröfsten Last ist. In den Fig. 2 bis 5 sind Constructionen gezeichnet, bei welchen der Kolbenhub ein Theil der Hubhöhe der Last und das Gewicht des Kolbens ein Vielfaches der zu hebenden Last ist.
