TOBACCO-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1e, 191s.
Application filed May 1, 1916, Serial No. 94,777. Renewed August S, 1917. Serial No. 185,184.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, ALBON M. HnLGEsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing kat Viroqua, in the county of Vernon and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. v Y
This invention relates to an improved tobacco hanger and has for its primary object to provide a very simple and serviceable device uponwhich tobacco stalks may be readily strung and suspended in the drying barn or shed.
It is another and more particular object of the invention to provide a device for the above purpose, including a bracket member provided with spaced parallel plates integrally connected at one of their 'ends by a screw-threaded shank adapted to be engaged in the wall or beam of the shed structure, and means for adjustably securing one end of a lath between said spaced plates whereby the lath may be disposed at various angles.
It is a further general object of the invention to simplify and improve the construction of devices of the above character and materially reduce the manufacturing cost thereof.
lVith the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the manner of mounting my improved tobacco hanger;
Fig. 2 is a horizontal longitudinal section thereof: and 1 Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the Referring in detail to the drawing,5 designates the spaced, substantially triangular shaped plates of a metallic body, which are integrally connected at their apexes by :means of a longitudinally extending, screwthreaded shank 6.
7 designates a lath or stringer upon which the split stems of the tobacco stalks are adapted to be strung. as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This lath is formed with a tapering end 8 to fit between the spaced plates 5 of the body member, and a bolt or screw, indicated at 9, is engaged through an opening 10 adjacentthe extremity of the tapered end 8 and has threaded engagement in one of the plates 5. Upon this bolt, the lath 7 is pivotally movable. At the inner end of the tapering portion 8, the lath 7 is provided with an arcuate slotA 11 disposed in substantially concentric relation to the pivot bolt 9. A bolt 12 extends through openings in the side plates 5 of the body member and through the slot 11, and a wing nut 13 isv v threaded upon one end of this screw, and by advantages of the device will be clearly and fully understood. By first loosening the clamping nut 13, the lath 7 may be readily swung to any desired angular position with respect to the body 5 so that the split tobacco stalks can be conveniently engaged upon the lath. The lath may then be raised or elevated to such position that the possibility of the tobacco stalks slipping olf of the lath will be obviated. In this manner. the bracket may be conveniently suspended in a curing barn or shed and the hanger may be easily and quickly moved from place to place as may be found most desirable. It is apparent. of course, that the hanger lath can be made in Aany desired length and may also be greatly varied as to the form and shape illustrated in the drawing. lVhile I have referred to the invention as particularly designed for use in the hanging of tobacco. it is manifest that the invention can also be advantageously em ploved for various other purposes. As the device is exceedingly simple in its construen tion, it will also be appreciated that the same is very strong and durable and can be manufactured at comparatively small cost.
'While I have shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of the several elements, it is apparent that the same are susceptible of considerable modifi-= cation and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is l. A device of the character described in- 5 cluding spaced body plates integrally conf nected to each other at one of their endsby an attahng screw, a lath. pivotally mounted. netneen the plates nntsnens te their connected ends and provided in spaced nennen. te. its., nlnet with an arcuate Veine, and manually adjustable cennectf une nlntesf'end dise-need' thx-.nnen Sad l fence the nletes inte' fljitienal .7, against the @minisite lath. and hind the. ssrn-n, in an @nosed ne,.en with reen alate gitudinally threaded shank, a bolt connecting said plates adjacent to the shank, a lath pivotally rneunted at @ne end upon Said bolt and provided with an arcuate slot concentrio toy its pivot, a second threaded bolt leosely mounted in said plates adjacent to their @then ends and extending threugh said Slet, and e damning nut threaded, nnen 0n@ end' of said bolt t force the plates into Clamping engagement against the nnnnsite Sigles Qt the lath and held, the in an .1ns'n1n-1xy disneend., nestnn with respect to the body pnts.`
