Specification of Letters Patent.

To all wlw/c t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. STALnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knightstown, in the county of Henry and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Foot-Rest, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a foot rest intended for attachment to an automobile, and the objects of the invention are, first, to provide an adjustable foot rest, second, to provide a rest which will support the foot in position to operate a plunger, third, to provide a simple and efficient foot rest.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
One practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein.

Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference A heel block 1 is provided which is formed with a heel receiving depression 2. Extending from the front end of the block 1 is a lug 3 which is suitably apertured. The lug 3 enters the bifurcated end 1 of a T arm 5 to adjustably secure the parts together, a bolt 6 passing through apertures in the prongs 4 and the lug, being provided for lockingthe parts when adjusted. The cross bar of the T armhas an enlarged portion 7 formed on each end to provide a stop which keeps the foot from slipping from the rest. This T arm forms the toe support.
A brace rod 8 may be pivotally secured to the T arm 5 and extends downwardly therefrom and through an opening formed in the floor of the automobile. A set screw 9 may be provided for securing the brace against movement. The brace 8 is not an absolute necessity and only serves to supplement the binding effect of the bolt 6.
An accelerator plunger 10 is indicated in Fig. 1 to illustrate the application of the device.
In the modified form the heel block or plate 1 is mounted 0n the end of the leg of the T bar 5. The T bar 5 has a lug 4: depending from its leg which is apertured to receive a pin 6 by which the rest is pivotally mounted on the base. The cross arms of the T bar 5 terminate in the enlarged portions or stops 7 as heretofore described, to retain the foot in place on the cross arms.
The base is preferably in the form of a frusto-conical member 11 formed with a peripheral flange 12 about its base. The flange 12 is provided with spaced apertures 13 for the reception of screws or other fasteners whereby the base may be secured to the floor of a vehicle. The frusto-conical portion of the base is sui-mounted by a dome 14 formed with a verticallyy disposed, centrally posi tioned groove 15. The central portion of the groove 15 is ofset downwardly to form opposed end walls 16. A horizontal bore 17 extends through each wall 16 and is threaded to receive the opposed screws 18. A transverse bore 19 extends through the bifurcated upper portion of the dome 14 and receives the pin 6 by which the foot rest is pivotally secured on the base.
A finger 19 depends from the lug L1 and enters the downwardly oii'set portion of the slot 15 and is confined therein between the opposed ends of the screws 18. As will be apparent, advancing one screw 18 and backing out the other will adjust the foot rest about its pivot.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A foot rest, including a block, an arm secured to the block and normally held stationary with respect thereto, the said arm being swingable in a vertical plane to selected position, means for securing the 1arm in such selected positions and a cross piece on the arm and adapted to fulcrum the foot 0f the user.
2. A foot rest, including a block, an arm secured to the block and normally held stationary with respect thereto, the said arm being swingable in a vertical plane to selected liositions7 a memloei` depending,` from the erm, and means engaging' the member for securing the arm 1n selected position.
3. A foot rest, including' n block, -an erm' the T-arm, and means carried by the base and contacting the finger for adjusting the T-arm.
