WILLIAM F. GAGELMAN, or GRE T BEND, KANSAS. w
CLUTCH LEVER.
Application filed October 31, 1922. Serial No. 598,168.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. GAGEL- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Great Bend, in the county of Barton and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Clutch Lever, of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a simple means whereby the clutch pedal in a Fordson tractor may be operated by hand, the device being so constructed that itwill not interfere with the ordinary fenders, or
necessitate changes in the standard tractor equipment. i
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combina- 'tion and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a portion of a Fordson tractor equipped with the device forming the subject matter of this application; Figure 2 is a rear elevation; Figure 3 is asection taken through the keeper.
The numeral 1 marks the frame of a Fordson tractor, including a gear casing 2 and a dash board 3, the dash board carrying a tank 1.
The clutch pedal embodies an arm 5 hav ing a laterally extended foot piece 6, the arm being mounted to swing upon and in the casing 2, as usual.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a lever 7 having a laterally eX- tended arm 8 provided with an angularly disposed finger 9. The lever 7 abuts against the outer end of the foot piece 6, the arm 8 extends longitudinally of the foot piece, and the finger 9 extends longitudinally of the main arm 5 of the pedal. Securing devices 10, such as U-bolts and yokes, extend around the arm 8 and the foot piece 6 and around the finger .9 and the part .5 of the pedal, the
hand, the operator being lever thus being held securely on the pedal, so that when swinging motion is imparted OFFICE.
to the lever, by hand, the pedal will be operated.
The numeral 11 designates an angular keeper having an upstanding projection 12,
the end of the keeper being clamped detachably at 25 to the dash board 3. In the projection 12 of the keeper 11 there is formed a slot 14 and a smalleropening 26 is fashioned in'the part 1.2, below the slot 14:. A latch 15 in the form of a bar is slidable in the slot 11-, the latch having a seat 16 in its lower edge, the seat being adapted to cooperate With the part 12 of the keeper in a manner which will be understood clearly when Figure 8 of the drawings is noted. The latch 15 has a longitudinal finger 2'? adapted to be received in the opening 26. The rear end of the latch 15 is supplied with any desired number of openings 17, adapted to receive for adjustment, a pivot element 18 carried by the lever 7, theconstruction being such that the device may be adapted to tractors of various dimensions. An auXiliary lever 19 is mounted to swing on the main lever 7 adjacent to the upper end thereof, and a link 20, which may be a piece of wire, extends between the lever 19 and the intermediate portion of the latch 15.
Through the instrumentality of the link 20, the latch 15 may be disengaged from the part 12 of the keeper 11, and, then, swinging movement may be imparted to the pedal, through the instrumentality of the lever 7. g
The device forming the subject matter of this application is simple in construction, and enables the part which has been hither to operated by foot, to be manipulated by given considerable freedom of movement on the seat of the vehicle.
Whatis claimed is The combination with the dash-board of a tractor, and an outwardly and rearwardly extended clutch pedal, of an upstanding lever secured to the rear end of the pedal, an outwardly extended keeper carried by the dashboard and having upper and lower openings, a latch slidable in the upper opening and provided in its lower edge with a seat receiving that portion of the keeper which is located between the openings, the latch having a longitudinally extended finger as my own, I have hereto affixed my signaadaptedfto be received in Ithe lower openirlig, ture in the presence of two witnesses. means or connectin t e latch, pivota 1y 1 with the lever, and ieansassembled' with WILLIAM GAGELMAN' I the lever and the latch for operating the itnesses:
