WILLIAM C. DAUMUELLER, OF LEBANON, ILLINOIS.
PEDAL PROTECTOR.
Application filed September To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM C. DAUMUEL- nun, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lebanon, in the county of St. Clair, in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pedal rotectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to protectors for the pedals of player pianos.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple durable protector which may be conveniently applied to the pedal and which will preserve the appearance of the same and protect the same against wear.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pedal protector having these advantages and which may be constructed at a comparatively slight expense and by means of facilities ordinarily axailable.
Othe objects and advantages reside in certain novel features of the construction, arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the foot pedals of a player piano equipped with a protector embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through one of tie pedals, parts being shown in elevation for the purpose of illustratiomand Figure is a detail perspective view of the holding frame of each protector.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 designates the body of a pedal to which a facing 2 of rubber is applied and secured by any suitable means as for instance, adhesive such as glue or the like. The facing 2 has transverse ridges 3 on its outer surface. The protector which constitutes the present invention comprises a sheet 4 of cardboard or other suitable material, the sheet 4 being apis, 1925. Serial No. 57,172.
plied against the facing 2 and being held on the facing by means of a holding frame designated generally at 5. The holding frame includes angular side bars 6 and angular end bars "3' the side and end bars being for ied from a single piece of metal and being suitably connected. The top flange of the side and end bars lie in the same plane although they extend at right angles to each other. The side flanges T of the end bars are somewhat wider than the side flanges 6 the side bars, and at the juncture of the side bars and end bars, the side bars are en larged laterally as indicated at 6". The holding frame is slipped over the protecting sheet 4 and over the pedal so that the coplanar flanges of the side bars 6 and 7 engage the margins of the sheet 4, the side flanges 6 and 7 of the side and end bars overlap the edges of the sheet 4, facing 2 and pedal 1. The frame, in this position, is secured in any suitable manner as for instance, by means of thumb screws 10 having a shank 11 threaded into one of the end bars of the frame and having clamping engagemeat with the pedal 1. One said screw may be employed at each end of the frame if found desirable, but ordinarily one is sufficient. In lieu of the thumb screw, a spring catch or any other suitable fastening means may be employed.
What Iclaim is il. protector for the foot pedals of player pianos including a sheet and a holding frame including side and end bars of angular formation, certain of the flanges of the side and end bars lying in the same plane and en gaging the margins of the protective sheet, the other flanges of the holding frame overlapping the edges of the sheet and pedal, and means co-acting with one of the flanges that overlaps the margins of the sheet and pedal for securing the frame to the pedal.
WILLIAM C. DAUMUELLER.
