The invention relates to improvements in locks designed primarily for valves ot' the plus' type-- The principal object of the invention is to provide a new and improved connection between the stem of the valve plug and a removable key for turning said stem, the construction being such that the key cannot accidentally fall from the lock whether the latter be open or closed. y
Another object is to provide a special stopping device to prevent the remoyal o-the key from the lock when the cock or valve is 'open and only when the cock` or valve is closed is it possible to remove the key from the lock.
This arrangemen I practical 'in for iniiamand the like is very mable liquids, p as it comp etely closed when-the key is remov fromthe loc Simultaneousl the cock or valve is locked. and can only be opened by means of the key particularly belonging to it.
With the foregoing in view, resides in the novel subject matter hereinand claimed, the #descripisonous gases tion being supplemented by the accompanying drawing. y y
Fig. 1 is 'a vertical sectional view through a cock housing and the lock mechanism, parallel with the boring of the cock housing,
Fig. 2 shows a vertical section at right angles to Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 shows the above,
Fig. 4 is a sectional view Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5 is a view similar to a Fig. 1 showing a diierent form o tion. n
In the drawing above brifly described, the numeral 1 designates the usual cock housing formed with a branch 2 at its top. A sleeve 3 is secured to the branch 2 by any This sleeve i), forms a guide for the key 4 and covers the stem oi the cock lug` 5. This stem of the cock plug 5 has a cylindrical part 6 one side of which has a iiat lock and cock seen from on line A-A of portion of construcsurface 7 a cylindrical neck 8 of a somewhat 9 of the same diameter as the G an annular tum- Serlal No. 242,191, and
'ves a security that the cock or valve bel ed 17 is above the the invention .3 there' in Denmark January 17, 1927. bler 11'the inner side of which has a straight edge 12 that fits the stem 6by which the tumbler is forced to accom any the rotation of the cock plug 5. On t e outer side of the tumbler 11 are projections 13 that engage notches 14 in the inner end of the sleeve 3 for stopping'the tumbler. This tumbler 11 is held in engagement by means of a compression pring 16 and thus the cock plug 5 is locke The key 4 has a bore that fits the neck of the cock plug 5, and within the -key 4 there is a segment-sliaped bit 17 that iits the flat surfaces 7 and 10, allowing the cock plug 5 to be turned by means of the key 4. Wh key 4 is inserted .in the lock the bit 17 is pushed down along the flat surface 10 of the stem to the neck 8 which is smaller in diameter than the parts key 4 can be turned around the neck until the bit Hat surface 7, whereuponv the key may be pushed down to the tumbler 11. By overcoming the action of the spring 16 the key is used to-push the tumbler 11 out of engagement with the notches 14 after which the cock i key`4. Because of the shape 'of the cock plug stem the lock can practically only be opened with the key particularly fitted to-said stem.l Furthermore, the key cannot be pushed quite out of the lock by the action of the spring 16 when the tumbler is pushed into engagement, -nor can said key accidentally fall from the lock as it must iirst be turned a half revolution around the neck 8 of the cock plug, before it can be removed from the lock.
On the handle 18 of the key 4 there is a pin 19 which underlies an arcuate iange 20 on the sleeve 3 when the key is pressed down and turned to open the cock plug 5 whereby the removal of the key is prevented when the cock is open. When -the key is turned back so that the cock is closed, the spring 1G will automatically push the tumbler 11 into engagement and lock the cock while the key is simultaneously pushed a corresponding distance out of the lock, at which time its handle 18 abuts the can thus not cause any rotation ofthe cock plug, and as a further precaution the key may be removed from the lock.
o prevent the lifting of the cock plug 5 when removing the key which would otherwise cause .the lock to leak, the housing may 5 can be turned by ends of the iiange 20. r Chance blows against the handle of the keyv llO 2 1,714,374 be pD ovid said tumbler and said sleeve for holding l Within the branch 2.

` As excellent results are obtainable from details disclosed, they are preferably followed. owever, Within the scope of the invention as claimed, variations may be made.
.I claim:
