. Germany May 11, 1937- 2 Claims. (01. 90-135) The invention relates to apparatus for efiecting the feed of the cutter spindle of engraving and copy milling machines wherein the cutter spindle automatically follows the movement of the feeler pin in a greater or smaller ratio or in the ratio 1:1.
The invention consists in that the feed of the feeler pin is effectedhydraulically, the contro of the feed being manually effected by means of a single lever the actuation of which producesa movement of the feeler pin, for example when feeling a template. The object of the invention is thus to move the copy milling machine hydraulically.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic general view of the right angles to one another in which cylinders.
move the pistons 2 and I3. Both cylinders 3 and I6 are fed with oil or other substance by a pump 2| through separate control members which in the present case are cylinders 4 and 20 in each of which moves a transversely grooved piston slide 5 or ill. Obviously in this case flat or channelled slide members can also be used. The two control members are also at right angles to one another so that the two piston rods .II and I2- move perpendicular to one another and their projecting ends cross. The latter each carry a slide 6 or 1 provided with a groove which is transverse to the corresponding piston rod and is of such a length that a common slide block 8 sliding in these grooves can be given a movement according to the control to be eflected by the control pistons. The movement of the block 8 is effected by a control lever to (see Fig. 2) which can be moved in any direction about a ball joint 9.
It now the control lever Ill is moved in the direction of cylinder 20 (see Fig. 1), then themachine feed also operates in this direction for v.
by means of the slide block 8 only the slide I and thence the piston rod l2 and control piston l3 are movedv in this direction. Accordingly the piston l3 in cylinder I6 is actuated by the pressure fluid and also performs the same movement- If the slide block 8 is moved in the direction of cylinder 4 then the slide 6 with piston rod H and control piston 5 are moved and by means of the IS in one or other direction. Any desired feed of the feeler pin is attained by movement of the slide block 8 or lever lo.
By the manipulation of the block 8 or lever ID the two cylinders 3 and it are fed through the control members 4 and 20' with the pressure fluid in such a way that the'feeler pin 15 mounted on a compound slide I, I a feels a template or pattern. The tool or cutter of the copy milling machine then follows the movement of the feeler pin, the machine being positively connected with the v compound slide carrying the feeler pin I5 on a common guide It.
By opening the valves Fl and ill the hydraulic feed may be cut of! (see Fig. 1).
I claim: I 1. Apparatus for eilecting by hydraulic means the feed of the cutter spindle of engraving and copy milling machines comprising in combination a plurality of working cylinders in which move pistons in positive communication with the cutter spindle, a plurality of control slides co-op ratin with said cylinders, each of said control slides co-acting' with crossed slides and with a common slide block co-operating with said crossed slides, said slide block being adjustable by a hand lever movable in all directions.
2. In hydraulic apparatus for moving the feeler pin of a copy-milling machine in which said feeler pin is rigidly arranged, the combination of two cylinders having their axes perpendicular'to each other, in said cylinders pistons connected to a compound slide carrying said feeler pin, a handle mounted on a ball joint, a slide block on said handle. two slides co-operating with said slide block, a slide valve connected to each of said slides, a casing enclosing each of said slide valves, conduits connecting said casings to a supply of fluid under pressure and conduits connecting said casings to said cylinders.
