HUGO HESS, OF GALVESTON, TEXAS.
COMB-CLEAN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 691,378, dated January 21, 1902.
Application filed May 18, 1901.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGO HESS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Comb- Oleaner, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention is an improved construction of comb-cleaner, the object being to provide an exceedingly cheap, simple, and efficient device by means of which a comb can be quickly and effectively cleaned.
Another object is to provide a device which shall be exceedingly compact and in which the cleaning mechanism can be concealed when not in use.
With these various objects in view the invention consists, essentially, of a series of cleaning-blades rigidly fixed to a block adapted to slide in a suitable case or handle, the opposite end of said case or handle having the brush fibers located therein.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of a comb-cleaner constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, the cleaner being set up ready for operation. Fig. 3 is a transverse section, the cleaning mechanism being withdrawn and concealed within the case, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the cleaning-blades and the block to which they are attached.
In carrying out my invention I employ a series of thin blades A, which may be of any desired material, said blades being inserted into the upper end of a block B. This block block D, being held therein by means of a face-plate E, which is slotted longitudinally, as shown, at E and through which the pin D projects, said pin having a knob upon its outer end, so that the block B can be moved Serial No. 60,892. (No model.)
are projected between the teeth, thereby forcing out all foreign substances adhering tothe teeth and filling up the spaces between said teeth. When not in use, the block B is moved down to the bottom of the recess 0,
thereby withdrawing the blades into the case,
and the device can then be packed away without damaging the blades.
It will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly cheap and simple appliance and one which will effectively carry out all the objects for which it is intended.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A comb-cleaner comprising a recessed case, a block located in said case, the cleaning-blades attached to said block, the slotted face-plate for retaining the block within the case, and a pin attached to the block and projecting through the slotted face-plate,'substantially as described.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a recessed case having brush fibers located at one end, a block located in the recess, a series of cleaning-blades secured in the said block, a slotted face-plate adapted to hold the block within the recess of the case, and a pin attached to the. block and projecting through the slotted face-plate whereby the said block can be moved within the recess for the purpose of projecting or withdrawing the cleaning-blades, substantially as described.
' HUGO HESS.
