To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRANKLIN H. MAXAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Princeton, in the county of Gibson and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Shelf or Hanger and Foot-Rest Attachment for Radiators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a combined shelf or hanger and foot-rest attachment for radiators, particularly steam and hot-water radiators.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, durable, and comparatively inexpensive device of this character which may be readily attached to and detached from radiators now in general use.

Wlth this and other ObJGClJS in view the invention consists ofcertain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front side elevation of a radiator with my improved attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section through the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the footrest removed from the radiator.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 denotes a steam or hot-water radiator of the well-known type, comprising in its construction vertically-disposed loops or coils 2, united at their upper ends by a horizontal bar 3, from which my improved foot-rest attachment 4 is suspended.

The preferred embodiment of my invention, which is as illustrated, consists of a single piece of metal rod bent to form vertical hangers 5, having their upper ends formed with hooks 6 to engage the bar 3 and their lower ends formed with right-angularly-bent horizontal arms 7. The vertical portions orhangers 5 are disposed between the loops or coils 2 of the radiator and the horizontal portions or arms 7 extend to the front of the radiator and are bent outwardly at right angles to form stops 8, which engage the front edges of one or more of the radiator loops or coils 2 to hold the hangers 5 in their vertical posi tion. The outer ends of the stop portions 8 are curved outwardly and forwardly, as at 9, and are spaced from and united at their outer ends by a horizontally-disposed bar 10, which serves as a rest or support for the feet. Owing to the forwardly-extending curved or looped portion 9 and to the engagement of the stop portion 8 with the radiator, the footsupporting bar 10 will be spaced a suitable distance from the front of the radiator, as seen in Fig. 2. It will be understood that by varying the length of the hangers 5 the said bar 10 may be disposed at any desired distance from the floor, and in addition to serving as a foot-rest may support a board or other rest, and thus be employed as a shelf or hanger for supporting various articles, or it may be used to hang clothes, &c., directly on the bar 10 for drying and other purposes.

While in practice I construct the devices of iron rods bent as shown and bronzed or plated, it will be understood that they may be made of more than one piece of metal or other suitable material, and they may be ornamented in any desired manner.

Various other changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
