Botanical Description

or more usually monocarpic, taking two years or more to reach flowering size. Rosette solitary, composed of ovate, wavy, grey-downy leaves each with a toothed, winged stalk. Flowering stem erect, to 20cm in height, bearing several 5-6cm long white or bluish-lilac tinted bells. At the base of the main stem several smaller prostrate ones develop, each tipped by one or two subsidiary bells. Greece and Yugoslavia (Macedonica) in rock crevices of limestone cliffs.
