from a branched semi-woody rootstock, with a sheaf of slender, ascending to decumbent stems to about 15cm in length. Leaves l-2cm long, ovate to obovate. Flowers 2-2.5cm wide, pink to rose-magenta, solitary or in pairs, mid summer to autumn. Caucasus. Some coloured variants have been named, e.g. 'Shell Pink' which has also been identified as 'Ralph Haywood'. An excellent species for dry walls and rock crevices in partial shade.
