Your Charter Captain, Steven Self

Born & raised in Panama City, Florida, Steven began his career in the fishing industry working on headboats out of Captain Anderson’s marina.

After a few seasons of commercial fishing with local legend Capt. Buddy Lee, Steven began his 15-year deep-sea fishing career.

Steven pursued educational opportunities as a Captain/Deckhand at the Naval Diving Salvage Training Center and Maritime Institute of Technology, both in Panama City, FL.

His training includes certifications in courses such as Personal Survival Techniques, First Aid & CPR, Medical Care Provider, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Advanced Firefighting, Environmental Awareness, Able Seaman, Radar Observer Unlimited, Flashing Lights, Helicopter Underwater Egress Training, Bridge Resource Management, Marine Rigger courses, Vessel Personnel designated with Security Duties, and more. 

Steven currently holds a Master 200 Gross Registered Tonnage license.

The surname SELF comes from the Middle English personal name Saulf, Old English Swulf, composed of the elements ‘sea’ + wulf ‘wolf’.
