Lethrinops sp."yellow collar" Harbour

Lethrinops sp."yellow collar" is living in deep water (35 meter and more), in sandy environments in the neighbourhood of rocks and in the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. They can be found at Thumbi West Island, Masimbwe Islet (southern from Likoma Island), Chiloelo and Mbamba Bay. This quite unknown variant is offered in trade as Lethrinops sp."harbour" or as Lethrinops sp."gold harbour". They can be found in the neighbourhood of Harbour Island (Monkey Bay), in the southern part of the lake.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 10 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 12 cm, females grow to about 9 cm.

Lethrinops sp."yellow collar" is searching the sand for food and lives mainly of the invertebrates they find in the sand after jigging this. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments.

In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
