Blue Demons fall 4-0 to Xavier

CHICAGO — DePaul women's tennis fell to three-time defending BIG EAST Champion Xavier, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at XS Tennis. The Blue Demons wrap up the dual season 15-7 including a 7-1 mark against BIG EAST opponents.

Xavier took the doubles point behind victories on courts one and two. Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith were overpowered on court one, 6-1. The tandem of Emily Casati and Yuliya Kizelbasheva fought back from down 4-1, but couldn't overcome the early deficit, dropping a 6-4 decision at No. 2.

In singles action, the Musketeers claimed the first set on all but one court with Carbone picking up the first set at No. 3.

The visitors went on to claim courts two, four and six in straight sets to clinch the victory and snap DePaul's six-match win streak.

After dropping the first set, Smith hung tough with reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year Imani Graham holding a 4-2 edge in the second set before the match went unfinished. Casati kept her 13-match win streak intact, going unfinished at No. 5.

Up Next: DePaul will await its seeding for the 2024 BIG EAST Tennis Championship which will be held April 18-21 in Cayce, S.C.
