Backaert and Gaudin with about a minute. Péloton numbers around 30-40, led by FDJ. I love the shot of the riders coming out of the château gates.

The gap's cut from around 1'10" with 15km to 40" with 8 so it's touch and go, Gaudin and Backaert will have to work together right to the very end if they want to stand a chance I think, but it looks like it's in the bunch's hands, if they work together.

Yea, on the last couple of laps Gaudin was clearly taking longer turns, but in the ribin until the last two sectors Backaert had been leading, so I wondered if Backaert was trying to play Gaudin a bit after he was reluctant to come through after the final ribin and then Gaudin was looking over his shoulder to see the chasers. Clearly Backaert was just cooked though because Gaudin did what he had to to ensure he got the chance to sprint for the win and had more power remaining than the Belgian. The guy won Roubaix espoirs and was top 5 in the elite event in 2013, so he's got the strength on this kind of terrain. Who was the Delko guy 3rd, Yannick Martinez?
