Women's Tennis Hosts Two Against Stanford

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team will wrap up its Fall season hosting the Hawai'i/Stanford Invitational this Saturday, Nov. 18th and Sunday, Nov. 19th at the Fairmont Orchid Hawai'i on the Kohala Coast of the island of Hawai'i. 

The Rainbow Wahine have dominated their home preseason matches. In their most recent Rainbow Wahine Fall Invitational in which they won all seven doubles matches and 11 of 13 singles matches in the three-day tournament. 

Last season, the Cardinal fell in the NCAA Championships' semifinals and finished the season ranked No. 5 with a 25-3 record. Stanford comes to Hawai'i with five ranked singles players (No. 11-Connie Ma, No. 48 Angelica Blake, No. 49 Alexandra Yepifanova, No. 50 Valencia Xu, and No. 64 Alexis Blokhina. Two of the Cardinal's doubles teams are also ranked in doubles. Blake and Blokhina are No. 27 in the ITA's most recent poll. Ma and Yepifanova are one spot below their teammates ranked No. 28.

In the past 25 years, Stanford has come to Hawai'i to play the Rainbow Wahine almost every fall--including a stretch of 15-straight years from 1999-2013. In recent history, the Rainbow Wahine and Cardinal have faced off at an outer-island venue. Last year UH hosted Stanford on their home courts in Manoa, but this year, the UH/Stanford Invite returns to the Big Island's Fairmont Orchid 's Hawaii Tennis Center.
