Statesmen head to Lake Placid for USCSA National Championships

3/4/2024 11:58:00 AM

The Hobart Alpine skiing team will head to Lake Placid, New York, to compete in the USCSA National Championships hosted at Whiteface Mountain this week. Competition for the Statesmen will begin with the skier cross event on Tuesday, March 5, and will continue through Saturday, March 9. The Statesmen will race in the giant slalom on Wednesday, the slalom on Friday, and the dual slalom on Saturday. All events will begin at 9:30 a.m. each day.

Led by first-year Ethan Hine's first and second place finishes in the Mideast Regional Championships slalom and giant slalom, the Statesmen finished third overall heading into the national championships. Sophomores Luke Ward, Jack Ross, John Meagher, and Rex Eidlin also had momentous finishes at regionals, guiding the Statesmen to a second overall finish in the giant slalom, and fourth overall in the slalom.

A first team all-conference selection, Hine has impressed in his first season, boasting nine top-10 finishes. Ward, a second team all-conference skier, has posted nine top-15 finishes on the season, with the most recent being a seventh-place finish in the giant slalom at regionals. In that same competition, Ross added a ninth-place finish to his resume. Meagher and Eidlin both finished in the top-20 in the slalom that weekend.

First-year Johnny Haggerty and sophomore Reed Bluestein will also represent Hobart at the 2024 USCSA National Championships this week and look to make their mark on the national stage for the first time in program history.

Tuesday's skier cross event and Saturday's dual slalom races will be the first time the Statesmen have competed in these events in program history.
