After taking over the baton from Giro del Trentino and its prestigious tradition, in just two years the Tour of the Alps has established among the most important fixtures in the International calendar, regularly attended by top teams and riders.

With twenty teams at the start, including nine World Teams, the Tour of the Alps is a prestigious goal as ever for those taking in, also in consideration of the extensive media coverage through TV, web and press, that will bring out the race to 100 Countries all over the World with its peculiar technical formula, made by short and intense stage routes, the Tour of the Alps sets up for exciting challenges in the beauty of the Euroregional territories (Tirol, Südtirol and Trentino).

Nachdem sie das ruhmreiche Erbe des Giro del Trentino angetreten hat, erweist sich die Tour of the Alps bereits in ihrem zweiten Jahr auf internationaler Ebene als äußerst relevantes Event, an dem große Champions und renommierte Mannschaften teilnehmen. Mit 20 Teams am Start, darunter 9 World Teams, ist die Tour of the Alps mehr denn je ein prestigeträchtiges Ziel – auch, weil die Berichterstattung über das Event im Fernsehen, im Web und in der Presse in 100 verschiedenen Ländern weltweit sehr umfassend ausfällt. Das Wettkampfformat mit kurzen aber sehr intensiven Etappen ist einzigartig. Deshalb verspricht die Tour of the Alps leidenschaftliche Herausforderungen entlang der Strecke, die durch die Schönheit der drei Regionen der Euregio (Tirol, Südtirol und Trentino) zusätzlich besticht. The alliance of sports and the territory, or better said, of great sport competitions and tourist offering, has increasingly grown into a winning strategy in the promotion of territories. Proof of this is the success and the high international acclaim gained, after only one edition with this name and the previous two with the name "Giro del Trentino", by the Tour of the Alps, a competitive event that more than any other incarnates the will of three ‘sibling territories’ to promote themselves by enhancing in a single frame, together with their organisational skills and landscapes, their excellences in sports. The 2018 edition of the race, consisting in 5 stages on the most demanding cycling routes of Trentino, South Tyrol and Tyrol, confirms the goodness of its formula in terms of competitiveness and of promotion of the Euroregion. The Tour of the Alps is a selective test bench for the Giro d'Italia — compared to which it has a larger number of ascents with its 10 Gran Premi della Montagna and over 13 thousand meters of difference in height – and is the testing ground for the routes of the UCI Road World Championships to be held this year in Innsbruck. The large number and the high level of the participating teams also explains the international attention, from as far away as South America, focused on this fascinating race that is highly spectacular also thanks to the beauty of the Alpine landscapes it crosses through. A great cycling race in the heart of Europe and in the shadow of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, that blends its absolute competitive motives with the strong identity value of three regions that have decided to significantly contribute, together, to the growth of a new Europe of Regions.
Il connubio tra sport e territorio, o meglio tra le grandi competizioni sportive e l'offerta turistica, si sta sempre più affermando come una carta strategica nella promozione dei territori. Lo dimostra il successo e la grande considerazione internazionale che, dopo una sola edizione con questo nome e le due precedenti come "Giro del Trentino", si è guadagnato il Tour of the Alps, un evento agonistico che più di altri incarna la comune volontà di tre "territori fratelli" di promuovere se stessi valorizzando in un'unica cornice, oltre a quelle organizzative e paesaggistiche, anche le proprie eccellenze sportive. L'edizione 2018 della corsa in cinque tappe attraverso i più impegnativi percorsi ciclistici di Trentino, Alto Adige - Südtirol e Tirolo conferma la bontà della sua formula, sia sul piano prettamente agonistico sia su quello promozionale dell'Euregio. Il Tour of the Alps è un selettivo banco di prova per il Giro d'Italia - rispetto al quale vanta un maggior numero di salite con i suoi 10 Gran Premi della Montagna e oltre 13mila metri di dislivello - e "palestra" per testare i percorsi dei campionati mondiali di ciclismo su strada che si terranno quest'anno a lnnsbruck. L'alto numero e la qualità dei team partecipanti spiegano anche l'interesse internazionale, fin dalle lontane terre del Sudamerica, per questa corsa affascinante e altamente spettacolare anche per la bellezza dei territori alpini attraversati. Die Verknüpfung zwischen Sport und Landesgebiet, oder besser gesagt, zwischen großen Sportveranstaltungen und Touristikangebot, fasst immer mehr Fuß als strategischer Schachzug zur Förderung der Gebiete. Das beweisen der Erfolg und das große internationale Echo, das die Tour of the Alps nach nur einer Ausgabe unter diesem Namen und zwei vorangegangenen unter dem Namen “Giro del Trentino” errungen hat, ein Wettbewerb, der mehr als alle anderen den gemeinsamen Willen von drei “Nachbargebieten” verkörpert, sich selbst zu fördern und in einem einzigen Rahmen neben den organisatorischen und landschaftlichen, auch ihre sportlichen Spitzenleistungen zur Geltung zu bringen. Die Tour of the Alps ist ein selektiver Prüfstand für den “Giro d'Italia”, im Vergleich zu dem sie mit ihren 10 Bergpreisen und über 13 tausend Meter Höhenunterschied mehr Aufstiege aufzuweisen hat, und ein Testlauf zur Erprobung der Routen für die Straßenrad- Weltmeisterschaften, die dieses Jahr in Innsbruck stattfinden. Five race days with a total of more than 700 kilometers of racetrack and 13,000 meters in altitude, to be tackled in five stages: this is the challenge that will be faced by 20 teams and more than 140 cyclists who will be competing in the Tour of the Alps 2018. A cycling race that requires a lot of effort, motivation and athletic preparation, but above all great passion for bicycle racing as the connecting element the cyclists. Another connecting element is represented by the Alps as the largest mountain range in Europe, a characteristic landscape element of all three Euregio regions in which the Tour of the Alps takes place. They are an inviting showcase of the unique and diverse natural beauties of the three areas Trentino, South Tyrol and Tyrol, which are organizing this unique event together - and as already proven - with great success. Therefore, the Tour of the Alps will not only score as a unique sports event in 2018, it will also give visibility to the European Region and the cooperation of the three regions with their common history.
Le 20 squadre e i più di 140 ciclisti professionisti che prenderanno parte all’edizione 2018 del Tour of the Alps sanno di dover affrontare 5 giornate di gara, per un totale di 700 km di percorso e 13.000 metri di dislivello: una sfida emozionante quanto impegnativa, una gara per la quale motivazione e preparazione atletica sono imprescindibili. È la passione, però, che distingue gli atleti nati per questo sport. Le Alpi, che danno il nome alla manifestazione, saranno anche il collante dell’intera gara. La più grande catena montuosa europea sarà infatti l’elemento naturalistico predominante lungo l’intero il percorso, che abbraccerà tutti e tre i territori parte dell’Euregio: Trentino, Alto Adige e Tirolo. Bellezze naturali che fungono da finestra sulla loro grande ricchezza e diversità culturale. Il Tour of the Alps, anche nel 2018, non sarà quindi solo espressione di eccellenza sportiva: rappresenterà anche la cooperazione all’interno della nostra Euroregione, che permette a questa splendida manifestazione di essere organizzata, edizione per edizione, sempre in maniera eccelsa.

Die Alpen gehören zum Lebensraum einer Gemeinschaft, die Natur, Geschichte und Kultur teilt, genauso wie den Sport, der ein Völker verbindendes Element über die Grenzen hinweg darstellt. Gleichzeitig steht Sport in den Bergen für einen nachhaltigen Lebensstil und der Radsport insbesondere für eine zukunftsfähige Mobilität und Gesundheitsvorsorge. Die Tour oft the Alps verleiht alldem Sichtbarkeit und trägt dazu bei, die Aufmerksamkeit der Bevölkerung auf die Bedeutung der grenzüberschreitenden Zusammenarbeit von drei Regionen zu lenken. Athletes, team members and fans – welcome to Tyrol and five days of racing in three beautiful regions. Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino will certainly offer the best they can as host countries. I wish each team all the best, safe races and of course good weather!
Gentili signore e signori, cari appassionati di ciclismo, è per me motivo di grande soddisfazione veder riproposto anche quest’anno il Tour of the Alps, la corsa a tappe che attraversa il territorio dell’Euregio Tirolo-Alto AdigeTrentino. Un ringraziamento particolare va agli organizzatori per la grande professionalità: senza il loro impegno non sarebbe possibile gestire in maniera efficiente eventi di tali dimensioni. Desidero inoltre porgere un caloroso benvenuto e un saluto dal Tirolo a tutti i ciclisti, ai loro team e a tutto il pubblico. The Tour of the Alps - originated from the synergy among Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino - is ready to make a qualitative leap during its second edition, as proudly announced by our friend Giacomo Santini, President of G.S. Alto Garda, who is senator, journalist, and above all a great cycling enthusiast.

Lo ha annunciato con giusto orgoglio l’amico senatore, giornalista, ma soprattutto grande appassionato di ciclismo, Giacomo Santini, presidente del G.S. Alto Garda.

A treat for all two-wheel foodies. From the Alps’ majesty to Jerusalem’s spirituality, amazing scenarios open wide for an almost seamless race among the most acclaimed pedal champions. During the Tyrol – South Tyrol – Trentino Euroregion race, twenty teams representing 14 countries will fight for the podium. Nine world teams, eight Pro Continental ones, two Continental ones and a selection of the Italian team guarantee a first-rate cast. Starting from Arco, climbing the legendary Pampeago paths, then across Meran, and finally getting to the Innsbruck circuit the home of the next World Championships. This will be an opportunity to test the path that will establish this year's winner and to remember together and pay tribute to the last enterprise by the unforgettable Michele Scarponi.

Ben nove world team, otto Pro Continental, due Continental e una selezione della Nazionale azzurra garantiscono un cast di prima scelta. Da Arco, attraverso le mitiche salite di Pampeago, passando per Merano, si arriverà sul circuito di Innsbruck, sede dei prossimi campionati del mondo. Im Rahmen des Euregio-Rennens werden sich 20 Teams aus 14 verschiedenen Nationen gegenseitig herausfordern. Neun World Teams, acht Pro Continental und zwei Continental Mannschaften, sowie eine Auswahl der italienischen Nationalmannschaft garantieren eine Starbesetzung. Von Arco, über die legendären Aufstiege nach Pampeago, vorbei an Meran kommt der Tross nach Innsbruck auf den nächsten WM-Kurs. Es ist die Möglichkeit um jenen Parcours zu testen, auf dem in diesem Jahr um das Weltmeister-Trikot gefahren wird – und sich gleichzeitig an den letzten Sieg des unvergessenen Michele Scarponi zu erinnern.

The idea of extending the historic Giro del Trentino, after 40 editions, to the heart of Tyrol broadens the territorial horizon of the race and gives voice to those who believe that cycling is an opportunity for meeting and inclusion.
Pedalare nell’Euregio è esplorare, nello stesso tempo, la storia e la geografia di tre regioni leader delle Alpi. L’idea di proiettare lo storico Giro del Trentino, dopo 40 edizioni, fino nel cuore del Tirolo ha allargato gli orizzonti territoriali della corsa e ha illuminato le vedute di chi crede nel ciclismo come occasione d’incontro e strumento d’integrazione.

However not only historical backgrounds connect the three countries, but also the geographical location in the heart of the Alps.
L’Euregio Tirolo-Alto AdigeTrentino è stato fondato quale Gruppo europeo di cooperazione territoriale dalle Province autonome di Trento e Bolzano e dal Land Tirol e riunisce tutti territori del Tirolo storico. Non è solo la storia a unire i tre territori, ma anche il fatto di essere situati nel cuore delle Alpi.

Die Europaregion Tirol-SüdtirolTrentino wurde 2011 als ein Europäischer Verbund für territoriale Zusammenarbeit von den Autonomen Provinzen Bozen und Trient sowie dem Bundesland Tirol gegründet und vereint alle Landesteile des historischen Tirol. Doch nicht nur die Geschichte verbindet die drei Länder, sondern auch die Lage im Herzen der Alpen. Die Tour of the Alps 2018 geht in Innsbruck zu Ende. Dort wo sich im Jahr zuvor das Ziel der historischen ersten Etappe des Nachfolgerennens des Giro del Trentino befand. Eine Etappe, die sich durch den Sieg von Michele Scarponi fest ins Gedächtnis aller Sportler eingeprägt hat: Wenige Tage nach dessen Triumph und dem Ende der Rundfahrt ist der Profi auf den Straßen seiner Heimatgemeinde während des Trainings bei einem Verkehrsunfall tödlich verunglückt. The 2018 Tour of the Alps ends in Innsbruck, where the historical first stage of the new race taking over from Giro del Trentino had ended one year earlier. A stage fixed in the memory of all cycling fans due to its winner, Michele Scarponi, who would tragically pass away just a few days later on his home road, while training. The Team Up award, created in agreement of Michele Scarponi’s family and in collaboration with ACCPI – the Italian riders’ association – will reward the team providing the best collective effort on each day. The winning team will be called on the main stage at the start on the following day, and will deliver a Tou of the Alps’ contribution to a voluntary group active in the start city.
Il Tour of the Alps 2018 finisce a Innsbruck, proprio dove un anno prima si era conclusa la storica tappa inaugurale della nuova corsa a tappe subentrata al Giro del Trentino. Una tappa rimasta scolpita nella memoria degli sportivi per il successo di Michele Scarponi che pochi giorni dopo, appena concluso il Tour of the Alps, sarebbe tragicamente deceduto sulle strade di casa per un incidente in allenamento.
Der Preis Team Up, der mit der Zustimmung der Familie Scarponis und in Zusammenarbeit mit der Vereinigung der Radprofis (ACCPI) ins Leben gerufen wurde, wird täglich von jener Mannschaft auf der Bühne überreicht, die gemeinsam am erfolgreichsten gearbeitet hat. Ausgezeichnet – mit einem kleinen Präsent der Tour of the Alps – wird ein ehrenamtlich tätiger Verein, der im Start-Ort der jeweiligen Etappe tätig ist.

THE ROUTE • IL PERCORSO • DIE ROUTE The 2018 Tour of the Alps opens with a rather short but insidious stage, with a 2.530 mt overall altitude and a finale with several options. After a flat start, the road starts pointing up after leaving the village Sarche, with a mix of slopes and apparently flat ground sections, all the way to the Lago di Molveno and Andalo. The climb’s gradient never gets over 8%, and even the last km before the top of the first categorized climb of the day, after 50,3 km, hardly goes over 4%. From there starts a long and fast descent, with open bends in the first part and wide hairpin bends in the lower section, yet without any specific technical difficulty. After a wide 3,5 km tunnel, the peloton will ride in the Adige river’s valley passing close to the city of Trento, whereas the aid station is placed after 88,2 km in Romagnano. The flat stint ends in Rovereto, where the day’s intermediate sprint – in Corso Antonio Rosmini, in the very heart of the city (km 108,8) – barely precedes the foot of the second ascent of the day. Now, a long climb (19,2 Km at 5,5% average gradient) leading to the second daily KoM in Serrada, after 128,4 km. From there, only 6,2 km will be left to the finish. But even those will not be easy: a descent with short

countergradients will leave way, with less than 2 km to go, to a long downhill straight ending with 700 mt to go with a sharp bend to the right. From there, the riders will have to relaunch their speed on the final drag on Viale Trento, leading to the finish in Via Emilio Colpi. The decisive move will be made on this ending section, whose gradient peaks at 10%: those punchers who managed to keep something for the finish will have a shot to the stage win and the first leader’s jersey. Il Tour of the Alps 2018 viene inaugurato da una tappa tutto sommato breve, ma non per questo da sottovalutare, tenuto conto dei 2530 metri di dislivello e del finale intrigante. Dopo un tratto iniziale pianeggiante, lasciata la località di Sarche si inizia a salire, con una serie di gradoni intervallati da falsopiani, per raggiungere prima il Lago di Molveno, poi Andalo. L’ascesa non è particolarmente ripida, mai oltre l’8%, ed anche i chilometri finali che conducono al primo GPM di giornata, dopo 50,3 km di corsa, si attestano su una pendenza media di poco superiore al 4%. Da qui inizia una lunga e veloce discesa, ricca di semicurve nella prima parte, e di larghi tornanti nella seconda, ma priva di particolari difficoltà tecniche.
Dopo una galleria di 3,5 km, ampia e bene illuminata, si percorre un lungo tratto nel fondovalle dell’Adige, lambendo la città di Trento, mentre in località Romagnano, dopo 88,2 Km, è fissata la zona rifornimento. Il tratto pianeggiante termina a Rovereto, dove, giusto all’attacco della seconda salita di giornata, è posto, nel centralissimo Corso Antonio Rosmini, il Traguardo Volante (Km 108,8). A questo punto ha inizio una lunga salita (19,2 Km al 5,5% di pendenza media) che condurrà al secondo GPM di giornata, posto in località Serrada, dopo 128,4 km. Da qui mancheranno appena 6,2 km alla linea del traguardo. Si tratta di chilometri tutt’altro che semplici: prima un tratto di discesa interrotta da brevi contropendenze, poi, a meno di 2 km dal traguardo, un lungo rettilineo ancora in leggera discesa che terminerà, ai meno 700 metri, con una curva a gomito a destra per attaccare praticamente da fermi l’erta finale su Via Trento, che porterà al traguardo posto in Via Emilio Colpi. In questo tratto, caratterizzato da pendenza fino al 10%, chi sarà riuscito a risparmiare più energie, potrà fare sfoggio delle proprie doti di scattista in salita per involarsi verso la vittoria di tappa e la conquista della prima maglia di leader.

Die Tour of the Alps 2018 wird mit einer insgesamt relativ kurzen Etappe eröffnet, die die Radprofis aufgrund der insgesamt 2530 Höhenmeter und dem steilen Schlussanstieg aber trotzdem nicht unterschätzen sollten. Nach einem flachen Anfangsteil beginnt nach der Ortschaft Sarche der stufenförmige Anstieg mit scheinbaren Ebenen, bevor die Radler zuerst zum MolvenoSee und anschließend nach Andalo kommen. Die zu bewältigende Steigung ist nicht allzu steil, geht niemals über 8% hinaus, und auch die letzten Kilometer hin zur ersten Bergwertung nach insgesamt 50,3 Kilometern wird auf einem Anstieg mit etwas mehr als 4% Prozent durchschnittlicher Steigung gefahren. Hier beginnt anschließend eine lange und rasante Abfahrt, mit vielen Halbkurven auf dem ersten Abschnitt und einigen Kehren auf dem zweiten Streckenteil, technisch jedoch nicht anspruchsvoll. Nach einem 3,5 Kilometer langen, sehr breiten und gut

beleuchteten Tunnel, geht es auf einem langen Abschnitt durch das Etschtal, auf dem auch Trient gestreift wird. In der Ortschaft Romagnano, nach 88,2 Kilometern, befindet sich die Verpflegungsstation. Der flache Streckenteil endet in Rovereto, wo sich nach insgesamt 108,8 Kilometern auf dem zentral gelegenen Corso Antonio Rosmini der Zwischensprint entscheidet. Hier beginnt auch der Anstieg (19,2 Kilometer lang/5,5% durchschnittliche Steigung), der mit dem zweiten Bergpreis des Tages endet, und zwar in der Ortschaft Serrada nach insgesamt 128,4 Kilometern. Von hier sind es noch 6,2 Kilometer bis zum Ziel. Es ist jedoch ein alles andere als einfacher Abschnitt mit einer Abfahrt, die immer wieder von kleineren Anstiegen unterbrochen wird. Weniger als 2 Kilometer vor dem Ziel folgt wiederum eine leichte Abfahrt auf einer langen Gerade, die rund 700 Meter vor der Ziellinie abrupt endet:
Die Profis müssen einen scharfen Rechtsknick bewältigen und praktisch stehend den letzten Abschnitt über die Via Trento bis zum Ziel in der Via Emilio Colpi in Angriff nehmen. Auf diesem letzten Teil mit einer Steigung von bis zu 10% wird sich wohl jener Radsportler durchsetzen, der bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt am meisten Kraft sparen konnte und seine Fähigkeiten als Sprinter auch bergauf unter Beweis stellen kann. Als Lohn wartet das erste Leader-Trikot auf den Sieger.

A circa 800 metri dal traguardo una curva a destra introduce su un tratto di circa 650 metri in salita con pendenza del 6-8%. A circa 150 metri semicurva a destra, al termine della salita, che introduce sul rettilineo finale pressoché pianeggiante. All'arrivo sede stradale di circa 7 metri, con fondo in buone condizioni.
Die Straße ist auf dem letzten Kilometer sehr breit, zirka 10 Meter, und der Untergrund befindet sich in einem ausgezeichneten Zustand. Rund 800 Meter vor dem Ziel geht es durch eine Rechtskurve auf einen 650 Meter langen Abschnitt mit einer Steigung zwischen 6% und 8%. Ungefähr 150 Meter vor dem Ziel führt eine rechte Halbkurve auf die Zielgerade, die nahezu flach verläuft. Im Zielbereich ist die Straße 7 Meter breit, der Untergrund gut.

At the last kilometer the roadway is very wide, about 10 meters, with a roadbed in excellent condition. About 800 meters from the finish line, a right-hand bend leads to a climb of about 650 meters at gradient 6-8%. Die einmalige geografische Lage und die Nähe zum Gardasee wirken sich hier besonders positiv aus. Das Städtchen wird vom prachtvollen, mittelalterlichen Schloss überragt, das auf einem Felssporn erbaut wurde. Klettern, Trekking und natürlich Radfahren ist hier ein echtes Vergnügen, was Arco in der Outdoor-Szene sehr beliebt macht.
ON THE ROAD
After 43 kilometers, the path crosses Molveno: a picturesque tourist spot at the foot of the Brenta Group, one of the wonders of the Dolomites. Located on the shores of the homonymous lake of natural origins, which the writer Fogazzaro described as a “precious pearl in an even more precious casket", the location has been given the "orange flag" by the Italian Touring Club which stands for excellence and offer a welcoming atmosphere.
SULLA STRADA
Il percorso dopo 43 chilometri attraversa Molveno, pittoresca località turistica ai piedi di una delle meraviglie delle Dolomiti: il Gruppo del Brenta. Situato sulle rive dell’omonimo lago di orgine naturale (che lo scrittore Fogazzaro definiva “la preziosa perla in più prezioso scrigno”), il paese ha ricevuto dal Touring Club Italiano la “bandiera arancione” per la qualità dell’accoglienza e dei servizi turistici.

THE STAGE TASTE
Oil, wine, freshwater fish, broccoli and especially "carne salada" - the typical high quality product under Arco and Garda Trentino De.Co. brand quality assurance. The “carne salada” is lean beef made out of a special production process which makes it pleasantly aromatic. Either sliced thin and raw as appetizer or cooked with beans as side dish, or as ingredient of delicious local dishes.
LA TAPPA DEL GUSTO
Olio, vini, pesce di lago, broccoli ma soprattutto la carne salada: è questo il prodotto tipico d’eccellenza a marchio De.Co. di Arco e del Garda Trentino. È una carne di manzo molto magra e sottoposta a uno speciale processo produttivo che la rende piacevolmente aromatica. Tagliata sottile è adatta ad essere consumata cruda come antipasto oppure cotta accompagnata da fagioli, o come ingrediente di prelibati piatti locali.

Öl, Wein, Seefisch, Brokkoli aber vor allen Dingen „carne salada“: Es ist das typische, hochwertige Produkt, das in Arco und im Gardasee-Gebiet des Trentino hergestellt wird. Dabei handelt es sich um sehr mageres Rindfleisch, das einem speziellen Prozess unterzogen wird, um ihm den aromatischen Geschmack zu verleihen. Es wird ganz dünn geschnitten und so als Antipasto verzehrt. Außerdem kann es gekocht und mit Bohnen serviert werden oder dient als Zutat für andere geschmackvolle, lokale Speisen.

The itinerary of the stage embraces Trento. It is worth a detour to admire the Buonconsiglio Castle, one of the symbols of the city and among the major monuments in Trentino-Alto Adige. Built in the Thirteenth century, it hosted the Bishops for five centuries. Made up of a series of buildings built in different ages, it is still in excellent condition and hosts important works of art.

L’itinerario della tappa lambisce Trento e vale la pena una piccola deviazione per ammirare il Castello del Buonconsiglio, uno dei simboli della città e tra i maggiori complessi monumentali del Trentino-Alto Adige. Eretto nel Duecento, ha ospitato per 5 secoli i principi vescovi. Composto da una serie di edifici di epoche diverse, è ancora in ottimo stato e conserva importanti opere d’arte.
ABSOLUT SEHENSWERT
Der Streckenverlauf streift Trient und es ist den kleinen Umweg allemal wert, um sich zum Beispiel das “Castello del Buonconsiglio” anzuschauen, eines der Symbole der Stadt und eines der imposantesten profanen Denkmäler in Trentino-Südtirol. Es wurde im 13. Jahrhundert errichtet und diente den Fürstbischöfen fünf Jahrhunderte lang als Sitz. Es setzt sich aus mehreren Gebäuden unterschiedlichster Epochen zusammen, ist sehr gut erhalten und in ihm werden wichtige Kunstwerke aufbewahrt.
THE FINISH: FOLGARIA
Folgaria lies on a magnificent plateau over 1100 meters. It is located in the middle of a popular ski area with over 70 kilometers of downhill slopes. In summer it is an ideal place for an enjoyable family holiday: in the cool climate it is possible to practice road cycling, mountain biking, hiking, golf, horse riding and climbing.
L’ARRIVO: FOLGARIA
Folgaria è adagiata su un magnifico alpeggio posto alle pendici del Monte Cornetto (m 2060). Si trova al centro della Skiarea Alpe Cimbra con oltre 100 chilometri di piste per lo sci alpino e 80 per lo sci nordico. D’estate è un luogo ideale per una vacanza all’insegna dello sport e del relax: è possibile praticare ciclismo su strada, mountain bike, escursionismo, golf, equitazione e arrampicata. Folgaria, con Lavarone e Lusèrn –isola linguistica cimbra- danno vita a uno dei più importanti Family Resort delle alpi. Il formaggio Vezzena è il prodotto tipico del luogo, insieme al miele e allo spek. Sull’alpe si trovano le 7 grandi Fortezze della Prima Guerra mondiale.
DAS ZIEL: FOLGARIA
Folgaria liegt auf einer malerischen Hochalm am Fuße des Monte Cornetto (2060 Meter). Es befindet sich im Herzen der Skiarea Alpe Cimbria mit mehr als 100 Pistenkilometern für alpine Skirennläufer und 80 Loipenkilometern für den nordischen Skisport. Im Sommer ist Folgaria der ideale Urlaubsort für Familien und Sportbegeisterte: Hier kann man Rennrad und Mountainbike fahren, wandern, Golf spielen, reiten und klettern. Folgaria, mit Lavarone und Lusern - eine zimbrische Sprachinsel - sind eines der wichtigsten Family Resort der Alpen. Die Käsesorte Vezzena ist ein typisches lokales Produkt, genauso wie Honig und Speck. Auf der Alpe befinden sich 7 große Festungen aus dem 1. Weltkrieg.

THE ROUTE • IL PERCORSO • DIE ROUTE Stage 2 of the 2018 Tour of the Alps gets off from the Lavarone’s plateau, in Chiesa. After some starting up-and-downs, the track is characterized by a long descent leading from the Valico della Fricca’s tunnel to Calceranica al Lago, through Vattaro and Bosentino, after 20,5 Km. Here a lumpy segment starts, passing just by Caldonazzo and Levico Terme to reach Pergine Valsugana (Km 35). There begins the first climb of the stage: nearly 16 km through the enchanting Valle dei Mocheni will award the first Cat. 1 KoM of the Tour of the Alps 2018, placed atop the 1.455 mt of the Redebus Pass after 51,1 km. Even though it's the less challenging side of the mountain to be climbed (only in the final part the slope goes beyond 10%), the riders will still need to face a 980 mt altitude difference.

Then Tesero and Ziano di Fiemme are quickly reached, then riding back along Avisio River and closing the Val di Fiemme loop when reaching again Molina di Fiemme (km 130,9 km). When riding again the climb in Castello di Fiemme, we face the determining moments of this stage: after 6,4 flat kilometers to reach Tesero, the ascent to Alpe di Pampeago - Fiemme will begin: a climb with a maximum gradient at nearly 15%, and whose slopes never get below 10% in the last 4 km to the final banner. There is absolutely no doubt: a talented climber will be the one to raise his arms on the Alpe di Pampeago. Moreover, on top of Alpe di Pampeago, the overall placings start to be clearer, highlighting the main possible winner of Tour of the Alps.
After crossing, a steep and fast descent with several hairpins bends will follow, but then the road will flatten through the town of Baselga di Pinè. Six more kilometers downhill will lead the pack to the provincial road crossing the Valle di Cembra, with a gentle but consistent ascent. In Lago di Lases (Km 70,7) a fixed aid station will be placed. Afterwards (Km 91), the intermediate sprint will wait for the riders in Sover, at Piscine. In Molina di Fiemme starts a long loop that will largely cross Val di Fiemme. The most challenging climb which merges SS 48 road through Castello di Fiemme - during the first passage
La seconda tappa del Tour of the Alps 2018 prende il via dall’Altipiano di Lavarone, in località Chiesa. Dopo alcuni saliscendi iniziali, il percorso è caratterizzato da una lunga discesa che porterà dalla galleria del Valico della Fricca, attraverso Vattaro e Bosentino, fino a Calceranica al Lago, dopo 20,5 Km di gara. Da qui inizia un breve tratto appena vallonato a lambire Caldonazzo e Levico Terme, per poi giungere a Pergine Valsugana (Km 35). Quindi la prima salita di giornata: quasi 16 km, risalendo l’affascinante Valle dei

Mocheni, per raggiungere il primo GPM di prima categoria del Tour of the Alps 2018, posto ai 1455 m di Passo Redebus dopo 51,1 km di corsa. Anche se si scala il versante meno impegnativo del passo (la pendenza massima arriva al 10% solo nel tratto conclusivo), occorre comunque superare 980 metri di dislivello. Superato il valico, i primi chilometri sono caratterizzati da una ripida e veloce discesa con numerosi tornanti; successivamente la strada tende a spianare attraversando l’abitato di Baselga di Pinè. Altri 6 km di discesa immettono sulla strada provinciale che risale, in lievissima ma costante ascesa, la Valle di Cembra. In località Lago di Lases (Km 70,7) sarà posizionata la zona rifornimento fisso. Successivamente, al Km 91, il gruppo troverà il T.V. di Sover, in località Piscine. Giunti a Molina di Fiemme, ha inizio un lungo anello che attraverserà buona parte della Val di Fiemme. Il tratto di salita più impegnativo che, attraverso Castello di Fiemme, raggiunge l’innesto con la SS48, nel pri-mo passaggio sarà valevole come secondo GPM di giornata, posto nel centro di Cavalese (KM 108). Successivamente si raggiungono, in rapida successione, Tesero e Ziano di Fiemme, quindi riscendendo a fianco del Torrente Avisio si chiude l’anello della Val di Fiemme giungendo nuovamente a Molina di Fiemme (km 130,9). Percorrendo nuovamente la rampa di Castello di Fiemme, ci avviciniamo alle fasi decisive

mit einer Länge von 16 Kilometern durch das bezaubernde Fersental, der am 1455 Meter hohen RedebusPass nach insgesamt 51,1 Kilometern endet. Auf der Passhöhe wird auch die erste Bergwertung der ersten Kategorie der Tour of the Alps 2018 entschieden. Auch wenn die Radprofis auf der weniger anstrengenden Seite des Passübergangs unterwegs sind (die maximale Steigung beträgt zum Schluss 10%), so gilt es immerhin doch 980 Höhenmeter herunter zu spulen.

Die zweite Etappe der Tour of the Alps 2018 beginnt auf dem Lavarone-Hochplateau, und zwar in der Ortschaft Chiesa. Nach anfänglichem Auf und Ab, zeichnet sich die Strecke durch eine lange Abfahrt aus, die die Teilnehmer zum Tunnel des „Valico della Fricca“ führen wird und von dort über Vattaro und Bosentino weiter nach Calceranica al Lago, das nach 20,5 km erreicht ist. Hier beginnt ein welliger Abschnitt, bei dem Caldonazzo und Levico Terme gestreift werden, bevor die Radprofis in Pergine Valsugana (35 km) ankommen. Nun wartet der erste Anstieg des Tages auf die Radler,
Die ersten Kilometer nach dem Übergang sind gekennzeichnet durch eine steile und schnelle Abfahrt mit vielen Kehren; anschließend – sobald die Ortschaft Baselga di Pinè erreicht ist – wird die Straße flacher. Nach weiteren 6 Kilometern Abfahrt geht es auf die Landstraße, die leicht aber konstant ansteigend ins Cembra-Tal führt. In der Ortschaft Lago di Lases (70,7 km) befindet sich die Verpflegungsstation. Nach 91 Kilometern wird in Sover der Zwischensprint entschieden, und zwar in der Ortschaft Piscine. Einmal in Molina di Fiemme angekommen, beginnt eine lange Schleife, auf der ein guter Teil des Fleimstals durchfahren wird. Befahren die Radprofis den Streckenteil mit der anspruchsvollsten Steigung nach Castello di Fiemme, wo es auf die Staatsstraße 48 geht, zum ersten Mal, so zählt er für den zweiten Bergpreis des Tages und wird im Zentrum von Cavalese (108 km) gewertet. Danach geht es weiter nach Tesero und Ziano di Fiemme, am Ufer des Avisio entlang bergab und die Schleife schließt sich in Molina di Fiemme (130,9 km). Dann gilt es neuerlich den Anstieg nach Castello di Fiemme zu bewältigen, wo die entscheidende Phase der Etappe beginnt. Nach 6,4 flachen Kilometern beginnt in Tesero der Schlussanstieg hinauf nach Alpe di Pampeago - Fiemme mit einer maximalen Steigung von 15%, die auf den letzten vier Kilometern nie unter 10% beträgt. Die Ehre, die Ziellinie in Alpe di Pampeago als erster zu überqueren, ist sicherlich einem Bergspezialisten vorbehalten. Außerdem wird sich hier auch langsam aber sicher herauskristallisieren, wer bei der Tour of the Alps für den Gesamtsieg in Frage kommt.

EUREGIO EXPERIENCE THE STARTING LINE: LAVARONE
Lavarone is a “comune diffuso” (literally "broad" municipality) of just 1,110 inhabitants made up of several hamlets (administrative center in the Gionghi) in the "Magnifica Comunità degli Altipiani Cimbri". Here nature, peace and relaxation prevail in some landscapes of romantic peace, loved by history and culture characters, such as the father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud.

Lavarone è un comune “diffuso” di poco più di 1.110 abitanti composto da antiche frazioni nella Magnifica Comunità degli Altipiani Cimbri. Qui dominano natura, pace e relax con paesaggi di romantica quiete tanto amati da personaggi della storia e della cultura, come ad esempio il padre della psicanalisi Sigmund Freud. Lavarone è famosa per il suo splendido lago alpino, che ha ricevuto la Bandiera Blu, e per la 100 km dei Forti - una delle più importanti gare di mtb (marathon e classic). Fiore all’occhiello da un punto di vista naturalistico la Foresta dei Giganti che si estende da Lavarone a Luserna.
DER START: LAVARONE
Lavarone ist eine “verstreute” Gemeinde mit rund 1110 Einwohnern, die sich aus mehreren antiken Fraktionen zusammensetzt, und zählt zu den zimbrischen Sprachinseln. Die ruhige Umgebung zog schon immer alle Menschen an, die sich nach Natur, Frieden und Entspannung sehnen. Auch große Persönlichkeiten: Der Vater der Psychoanalyse Sigmund Freud hielt sich immer wieder in Lavarone auf, das auch durch seinen gleichnamigen See Bekanntheit erlangte. Er erhielt sogar eine Blaue Flagge. In Lavarone wird auch das sehr beliebte MTB-Rennen „100 km dei Forti“ ausgetragen. Besonders stolz ist man auf die „Foresta dei Giganti“. Der „Wald der Riesen" erstreckt sich von Lavarone bis nach Lusern.
ON THE ROAD
Located at 1000 meters above sea level, on a sunny terrace in front of the Lagorai mountain range, Cavalese is one of the most important tourist locations of the Val di Fiemme. It is very popular both in winter (Alpe Cermis ski lifts start from the village) and in summer. It is one of the key points on the Marcialonga route, the "mother" of all cross-country skiing competitions.

Posto a 1000 metri di quota, su una terrazza soleggiata davanti alla catena del Lagorai, Cavalese è uno dei centri turistici più importanti della Val di Fiemme. Molto frequentato sia d’inverno (dal paese partono gli impianti di risalita dell’Alpe Cermis) sia d’estate, è uno dei punti chiave sul percorso della Marcialonga, la “madre” di tutte le competizioni di sci di fondo.

Cavalese ist eines der wichtigsten Tourismuszentren des Fleimstales (Val di Fiemme). Es liegt auf 1000 Metern Meereshöhe auf einer sonnengefluteten Terasse, genau vor der Bergkette des Lagorai. Cavalese zieht sowohl im Winter (von hier starten die Bergbahnen der Alpe Cermis), als auch im Sommer sehr viele Gäste an und ist eine der Schlüsselstellen der Marcialonga, der “Mutter” aller Langlaufrennen.

In the first half of the route you cross the Valle dei Mocheni, a German language island in the heart of Trentino. The presence of the Germanic community dates back to the Middle Ages, due to the call of gold, pyrite and quartz mines. It is also called the enchanted valley, a definition due to its magnificent natural scenery, source of inspiration for the famous Austrian writer Robert Musil.

Nella prima metà del tracciato si attraversa la Valle dei Mocheni, isola linguistica tedesca nel cuore del Trentino. La presenza della comunità germanica risale al medioevo, per via del richiamo delle miniere di oro, pirite e quarzo. È chiamata anche la valle incantata, definizione dovuta al suo magnifico scenario naturale, fonte di ispirazione per il famoso scrittore austriaco Robert Musil.

Auf dem ersten Teil der Strecke wird das Fersental (Valle dei Mocheni) durchfahren, eine deutsche Sprachinsel im Herzen des Trentino. Im Mittelalter wanderten Bergwerksarbeiter aus Süd- und Nordtirol zu, die Kupfer, Silber und Gold abbauten. Es wird auch das verzauberte Tal genannt, was wohl auf die Naturbelassenheit zurückzuführen ist, die schon den bekannten österreichischen Schriftsteller Robert Musil inspiriert hat.
THE FINISH: ALPE DI PAMPEAGO
The Alpe di Pampeago road is an Alpine pass between the Selva di Ega and the Cima di Valsorda. The slope that rises from Tesero, the southern and best known, leads to the Alpe area where the lifts of the Latemar Ski Center are located. The ski area extends towards Predazzo and Obereggen, with 48 kilometers of slopes for downhill skiing.

La strada dell’Alpe di Pampeago è un valico alpino posto tra la Selva di Ega e la Cima di Valsorda. Il versante che sale da Tesero, quello meridionale e più noto, conduce all’area dell’Alpe dove sono posti gli impianti di risalita dello Ski Center Latemar. L’area sciistica si sviluppa verso Predazzo e Obereggen, con 49 chilometri di piste per lo sci alpino.
DAS ZIEL: ALPE DI PAMPEAGO
Die Straße auf die Alpe di Pampeago ist ein Alpenpass, der sich zwischen den Wäldern des Eggentals und der Cima di Valsorda befindet. Die von Tesero heraufführende, südliche Seite ist die bekanntere und führt zu den Aufstiegsanlagen des Ski Center Latemar. Das Skigebiet öffnet sich gegen Predazzo und Obereggen hin und bietet 49 Pistenkilometer für alpine Skisportler.
THE CHARACTER
Arrival seat of 5 stages of the Giro d'Italia, in 1998 the Alp of Pampeago had been a fundamental step for the victory of the pink race by Marco Pantani (it was the year of the double event flow Giro-Tour). Although he finished behind Tonkov on arrival, the climbing specialist from Romagna mortgaged the final success. Pantani won Pampeago the year after, but it was an evanescent joy: 2 days after, he was excluded from the Giro for his hematocrit above average.

Sede di arrivo di 5 tappe del Giro d’Italia, l’Alpe di Pampeago è stata nel 1998 un passaggio fondamentale per la conquista della corsa rosa da parte di Marco Pantani (era l’anno della doppietta Giro-Tour). Pur finendo dietro Tonkov all’arrivo, lo scalatore romagnolo ipotecò il successo finale. Pantani dominò la frazione di Pampeago l’anno successivo, ma si trattò di una gioia effimera: dopo 2 giorni fu estromesso dal Giro per l’ematocrito fuori norma.
DIE PERSÖNLICHKEIT
Fünf Mal war die Alpe di Pampeago bereits Zielort des Giro d’Italia. 1998 war dieser Abschnitt ausschlaggebend für den späteren Giro-Sieg Marco Pantanis (es war das Jahr, in dem er dann auch die Tour gewann). Obwohl er im Ziel hinter Tonkov als Zweiter ankam, holte sich der Kletterer aus der Romagna den Gesamtsieg. Pantani dominierte das Teilstück in Pampeago im Jahr darauf. Aber seine Freude währte nicht lange: Zwei Tage später wurde er wegen eines überhöhten Hämatokrit-Wertes vom Giro ausgeschlossen.

THE ROUTE • IL PERCORSO • DIE ROUTE Auer/Ora hosts the start of Tour of the Alps stage 3. The early kilometres will be flat, through the famous apple orchards and vineyards of the Adige’s Valley. After passing through Tramin/ Termeno, the home of the famous Traminer wines, things get serious first on the Weinstrasse/Strada del Vino, towards Kaltern/Caldaro and then, following the Vie Europa/ Europastraße, athletes will challenge the climb also known as “Mendolina”: a 4,5 km long ascent, with a 6% average gradient, peaking at 10%. After the hill, the peloton will go down to Eppan/Appiano, and then will reach Bozen/Bolzano through wide and flowing roads. Km 44,5 - in Leifers/Laives, the riders will contest the day’s intermediate sprint. After 54,5 km, the long starting loop will get to a close, as the peloton will return to Auer/Ora. After passing the South Tyrolean village, the race turns left for a 3,8 km ascent to Montan/Montagna on the SS 48, followed by the fast way down to Neumarkt/Egna. Once again the first track has to be ridden before the race returns on its itinerary through the Weinstraße/Strada del Vino where the aid station is placed (Km 64,4). From Kaltern/Caldaro back to

the Mendolina climb, but this time rising up the tough Mendel Pass/ Passo della Mendola, where a Cat. 1 KOM will be placed after a 18 km ascent, with a 1.100 mt altitude difference. A fast and insidious descent will take the peloton to Fondo, where the road will point upwards again – though with unimpressive gradients – to the Gampen Pass/Passo Palade. From the KoM, at a height of 1518 meters, to the finish in Meran/Merano there will be 26,3 km left, most of those to be covered on a fast and technical descent to the residential area of Lana. The last 7 km are mostly flat: the riders will enter Meran/Merano, passing by the famous hippodrome before getting - while riding some roundabouts - in the city center. Indeed, the finish line will be placed in downtown Meran/Merano, in Rennweg/Via delle Corse, where a group of attackers could sprint for the opportunity to bag a prestigious stage win. Sarà Ora ad ospitare la partenza della terza tappa. I chilometri iniziali scorrono pianeggianti, con i famosi meleti e vigneti della valle dell’Adige a fare da sfondo alla corsa. Superato Termeno,
patria dei prestigiosi vini Traminer, si comincia a fare sul serio percorrendo inizialmente la Strada del Vino in direzione di Caldaro, quindi, seguendo la Via Europa, gli atleti affronteranno quella che è conosciuta come la “Mendolina”, una salita di circa 4,5 km con pendenza media del 6%, ma con punte vicine al 10%. Quindi si discende verso Appiano prima di raggiungere, attraverso strade ampie e scorrevoli, la città di Bolzano. Si giunge quindi al km 44,3 dove sarà posto il T.V. nell’abitato di Laives. Dopo 54,5 km si transita nuovamente da Ora, andando così a chiudere il lungo circuito iniziale. Oltrepassata la cittadina altoatesina, si svolta a sinistra salendo per 3,8 km in direzione di Montagna, seguendo la SS 48, per poi ridiscendere molto rapidamente verso Egna. Si percorre nuovamente il tracciato delle fasi iniziali, prima di transitare una seconda volta sulla Strada del Vino, dove è posta la zona rifornimento al Km 64,4 di gara. Da Caldaro si imbocca nuovamente la salita della Mendolina, proseguendo questa volta in direzione dell’impegnativo Passo della Mendola, dove sarà posto un traguardo GPM di prima categoria.

Richtung Kaltern langsam ernst, bevor es dann, die Europastraße entlang fahrend, in Richtung „Mendolina“, also „kleine Mendel“ geht – ein Anstieg, der 4,5 Kilometer lang ist mit einer durchschnittlichen Steigung von 6% und mit Spitzen bis knapp 10%. Anschließend geht es wieder bergab nach Eppan, bevor das Feld auf breiten Straßen zügig bis nach Bozen kommt. Nach insgesamt 44,3 Kilometern befindet sich in Leifers der Zwischensprint. Nach 54,5 Kilometern erreicht die Tour of the Alps wiederum Auer. Haben die Radler die Ortschaft hinter sich gelassen, so biegen sie nach links ab und fahren zuerst 3,8 Kilometer die Staatsstraße 48 entlang bergauf nach Montan – um anschließend im Eiltempo nach Neumarkt abzufahren.

Complessivamente la salita misura 18 km e supera i 1100 metri di dislivello. Discesa impegnativa, ma molto veloce, verso l’abitato di Fondo, da dove si riprende a salire, anche se con pendenze pedalabili, verso il Passo Palade. Dal GPM, a quota 1518 metri, all’arrivo di Merano mancheranno 26,3 km, gran parte dei quali saranno in veloce e tecnica discesa fino all’abitato di Lana. Gli ultimi 7 km sono invece pianeggianti; si entra a Merano lambendo il famoso ippodromo, prima di inoltrarsi, attraversando alcune rotatorie, nel cuore del centro storico. La linea del traguardo infatti sarà posta nella

centralissima Via delle Corse, dove, visto lo sviluppo altimetrico della tappa, si potrebbe anche assistere ad una spettacolare volata di un gruppo ristretto di attaccanti. Nun sind die Profis wieder auf dem Anfangsteil der Etappe unterwegs und kommen neuerlich auf die Weinstraße, wo sich nach 64,4 Kilometern die Verpflegungsstation befindet. Von Kaltern geht es wieder die „kleine Mendel“ hoch, dieses Mal aber in Richtung des anspruchsvollen Mendelpasses, wo die Bergwertung der ersten Kategorie entschieden wird. Insgesamt ist der Anstieg 18 Kilometer lang mit mehr als 1100 Höhenmetern. Die anschließende Abfahrt ist anspruchsvoll und sehr schnell. Sie endet in Fondo, wo der nicht allzu anspruchsvolle Anstieg auf den Gampenpass auf 1518 Metern Meereshöhe beginnt. Auch hier befindet sich das Ziel einer Bergwertung. Bis zum Ziel nach Meran fehlen nun 26,3 Kilometer. Auf die Radprofis wartet die schnelle und technische Abfahrt nach Lana. Die letzten 7 Kilometer verlaufen zum Großteil flach. In Meran fahren die Radler am bekannten Pferderennplatz vorbei, bevor es, auch durch einige Kreisel, ins historische Stadtzentrum geht. Das Ziel befindet sich schließlich am sehr zentral gelegenen Rennweg, wo diese dritte Etappe in einem packenden Schluss-Spurt der Sprint-Elite entschieden werden könnte.

The homestretch measures approximately 200 meters, preceded by a slight semi-curve. The roadbed is in excellent condition and the roadway is around 8 meters wide. Der letzte Kilometer verläuft auf einer breiten Allee (Breite zirka 11 Meter); ungefähr 600 Meter vor dem Ziel geht's durch einen breiten Kreisverkehr. Die Zielgerade ist rund 200 Meter lang, die durch eine leichte Halbkurve erreicht wird. Der Straßenuntergrund befindet sich in einem ausgezeichneten Zustand mit einer Breite von 8 Metern.

EUREGIO EXPERIENCE THE STARTING LINE: ORA
On the left side of the Adige, Ora is a picturesque village surrounded by vineyards that give it a rural look and the name of "wine location". The village has some majestic architecture, such as the Sixteenth-century manor Happacherhorf and the ancient church of Saint Peter with a still working late-Renaissance organ.

Adagiato sul lato sinistro dell’Adige, Ora è un borgo pittoresco circondato da vigneti che gli conferiscono un aspetto rurale e gli hanno regalato l’appellativo di “paese del vino”. La cittadina possiede strutture di assoluto pregio architettonico, come il maniero cinquecentesco Happacherhorf e l’antica chiesetta di San Pietro, con un organo tardorinascimentale ancora funzionante.

Das malerische Auer liegt am linken Ufer der Etsch und wird von zahlreichen Weinreben umgeben. Durch den ländlichen Charakter wird es als Weindorf bezeichnet. In der Ortschaft befinden sich architektonisch sehr wertvolle Gebäude, wie etwa der Happacherhof, dessen Geschichte bis ins 16. Jahrhundert zurückreicht, oder die St.-Peters-Kirche mit der ältesten bespielbaren Orgel Südtirols aus der späten Renaissance.
ON THE ROAD
The market town Egna is listed in the "Most Beautiful Villages of Italy". Arcades, courtyards and buildings in Venetian style make it unique and witness the past of intense trade, in particular the transport of timber by river. It still recalls the atmosphere of those times and is a vibrant cultural center of the Bassa Atesina, 25 kilometers from Bolzano.
SULLA STRADA
La città mercato di Egna è iscritta nell’elenco dei “Borghi più belli d’Italia”. Sono i portici, i cortili e le costruzioni in stile veneziano a renderla unica e a testimoniare un passato di commercio intenso, in particolare con il trasporto del legname per via fluviale. Conserva ancora l’atmosfera di quei tempi ed è un effervescente centro culturale della Bassa Atesina, 25 chilometri da Bolzano.

Die Marktgemeinde Neumarkt scheint in der Liste der „schönsten Orte Italiens“ auf. Die Lauben, die vielen Innenhöfe und der venezianische Baustil machen den Ortskern einzigartig und bezeugen eine intensive Handelszeit. Vor allem Holz wurde von hier auf dem Schiffweg transportiert. In Neumarkt hat sich die Atmosphäre jener Zeit erhalten. Das sprudelnde Kulturzentrum des Unterlands liegt 25 Kilometer von Bozen entfernt.

On the sunny slopes of the Bassa Atesina and along the Strada del Vino winemakers produce some of the best wines in South Tyrol. The Pinot Noir wine is ideally cultivated here. Don't miss Gewürztraminer, the white wine with light spicy notes and nuances of cloves, roses and lychees. Ideal for fish appetizers and excellent also for desserts.
LA TAPPA DEL GUSTO
Sui pendii soleggiati della Bassa Atesina e lungo la Strada del Vino i viticoltori producono vini tra i migliori dell’Alto Adige. Qui trova le condizioni ideali il vitigno Pinot Nero. Da gustare assolutamente il Gewürztraminer, vino bianco con lievi note speziate e sfumature di chiodi di garofano, rose e litchi. Ideale per antipasti di pesce ed eccellente anche per il dessert.
FÜR DEN GESCHMACKSSINN
Auf den sonnengetränkten Hängen des Unterlands und entlang der Weinstraße werden einige der besten Weine produziert. Wie etwa der Blauburgunder, der hier ideale Voraussetzungen vorfindet. Unbedingt verkosten sollte man den Gewürztraminer, ein Weißwein mit Noten von Rosen und Nelken, Zimt und Muskatnuss, sowie von tropischen Früchten wie Litschi. Der Wein begleitet wunderbar gereiften Weichkäse sowie Antipasti von würzigen Fischspeisen. Er passt hervorragend zu Meeresfrüchten sowie zu asiatischen und würzigen Fleischgerichten.

DON'T MISS
In Bolzano, we recommend to visit the Dome, a true Romanesque-Gothic jewel of the eleventh century. Along with other elegant buildings and arcades that branch off towards the medieval part of the city, the dome is representative as the square dedicated to Walther von der Vogelweide, poet and troubadour who lived in the area between 1100 and 1200 and recalled with a statue in the middle of the square.
DA NON PERDERE
Di passaggio a Bolzano consigliabile uno stop per visitare il Duomo, vero gioiello romanico-gotico del secolo XI. Insieme ad altri eleganti edifici e porticati che si diramano verso la parte medioevale della città, caratterizza la piazza dedicata a Walther von der Vogelweide, poeta e trovatore vissuto nella zona tra il 1100 e il 1200 e ricordato con una statua proprio al centro della piazza.
ABSOLUT SEHENSWERT
Bei einem Halt in Bozen darf der Besuch des Domes natürlich nicht fehlen, der im romanisch-gotischen Baustil im 11. Jahrhundert erbaut wurde. Er liegt nur unweit der Lauben und prägt zusammen mit anderen Gebäuden aus dem Mittelalter das Bild des Waltherplatzes. In dessen Mitte steht eine Statue, die an den Namensgeber Walther von der Vogelweide erinnert: Der Dichter und Entdecker lebte zwischen 1100 und 1200 in der Gegend.
THE FINISH: MERANO
Entirely surrounded by mountains, between Val Venosta, Val Passiria, Val d'Adige and Val d'Ultimo, Merano is the second largest town in South Tyrol by population. It is famous for its thermal baths, parks, walks in the countryside - thanks to its geographical position enjoys a mild climate and it is a popular destination for wellness tourism. Its racecourse is famous internationally.

THE ROUTE • IL PERCORSO • DIE ROUTE Tour of the Alps’ stage 4 gets off from Klausen/Chiusa. After a short neutralized transfer from the city center of the Valle d’Isarco’s town, the peloton will move northbound along the SS12. After 11 km on flat, passing through Brixen/Bressanone, the peloton will face a first, gently uphill section. Once Schabs/Sciaves is left behind and the peloton takes the SS 49 road in Val Pusteria, the road returns flat until Niedervintl/Vandoies. There begins the first categorized climb of the day taking all the way up to Terento (32,6 km) after 6 km uphill at a 7,7% average gradient. After the KoM, the race will pass through the plateau that has its main center in Pfalzen/Falzes. Another short descent leads to Bruneck/ Brunico, just to tackle another mild but constant ascent along the Rienza river. After 62,6 Km along the SS 49 road in Val Pusteria the aid fixed station is placed near Lago di Vadaora while the day’s intermediate sprint is placed at km 76,6 in Toblach/ Dobbiaco. The peloton will wind by the beautiful Innechen/San Candido on the way to the Italian-Austrian border, that will be passed after 88,9 km. After reaching Austria, the riders will proceed on the B100 road, parallel to the famous cycle path leading from Toblach/Dobbiaco to Lienz on a slight and pleasurable descent. Anyway, the Tour of the Alps riders have a different fate in store for the final. First, they will tackle the Anras climb, with its 4 km at a 7% average gradient, with some steep sections peaking over 10%. After the
descent and a short stint through the valley floor, in Thal-Aue another left turn will lead to the second categorized climb of the day, the Bannberg, where Marco Pantani and Michele Bartoli during the 13rd stage at the 1994 Giro d’Italia. 6,9 km at a 6,7% average gradient will be the final springboard towards Lienz, and arguably the decisive moment of the stage. The ascent is likely to make a selection among the contenders, but there will still be the very fast and technical way down to take the riders back to the main road, with just 4,2 km to ride the homestretch to the beautiful central square of Lienz, Hauptplatz, where the stage winner will be celebrated. La quarta tappa prenderà le mosse da Chiusa. Dopo un breve tratto di trasferimento nel centro storico della cittadina in Valle Isarco, si procede in direzione nord, seguendo la SS12. Dopo circa 11 km pianeggianti e l’attraversamento di Bressanone, inizierà un primo tratto in lieve salita. Oltrepassata Sciaves e imboccata la SS49 della Val Pusteria, il percorso torna ad essere pianeggiante, fino a raggiungere Vandoies. Qui si lascerà il fondovalle per iniziare la prima salita di giornata che porterà dopo 6 km al 7,7% al GPM di Terento (km 32,6). Oltrepassato il Gran Premio della Montagna, la corsa attraversa l’altipiano che ha in Falzes il centro principale. Un’altra breve discesa condurrà a Brunico, da dove si riprenderà a salire, in lieve ma costante ascesa lungo il corso del fiume Rienza.
Dopo 62,6 km, sempre lungo la SS 49 della Val Pusteria, avrà luogo il rifornimento fisso, in prossimità del Lago di Valdaora, mentre al km 76,6 in località Dobbiaco è posto il Traguardo Volante. Si sfiora la raffinata San Candido, per poi giungere, dopo 88,9 km, al confine italo-austriaco. Una volta entrata in Austria, la carovana percorrerà la strada B100, parallela al famoso percorso ciclabile che da Dobbiaco porta, con una lunga e piacevolissima discesa, fino a Lienz. Tuttavia, ai partecipanti del Tour of the Alps, il tracciato propone due variazioni che infiammeranno il finale. La prima è la salita che porta ad Anras: 4 km con pendenza media attorno al 7%, ma con alcuni tratti superiori al 10%. Dopo una veloce discesa ed un tratto di fondovalle, raggiunta la località di Thal-Aue, nuova svolta a sinistra per attaccare il secondo GPM di giornata, il Bannberg, sulle strade che videro per la prima volta alla ribalta Marco Pantani e Michele Bartoli nella tredicesima tappa del Giro d’Italia 1994. Saranno 6,9 km al 6,7% di pendenza media a fare da trampolino di lancio per il traguardo di Lienz. Oltre alla probabile selezione sulla salita, l’adrenalina salirà alle stelle lungo la velocissima e tecnica discesa che proietterà i corridori di nuovo sulla strada principale, ad appena 4,2 km dalla linea di arrivo. Gli ultimi fuochi d’artificio si vivranno nel rettilineo finale che introdurrà la corsa nel salotto buono di Lienz, la prestigiosa ed austera Hauptplatz, dove si svelerà il nome del vincitore.

Klausen ist das Tor zur vierten Etappe. Zunächst geht es durch das historische Zentrum der Kleinstadt im Eisacktal, dann auf einer flachen Strecke von 11 Kilometern der Staatsstraße 12 entlang in Richtung Norden, bis Brixen. Nachdem die Radler die Domstadt hinter sich gelassen haben, geht es leicht ansteigend bis nach Schabs auf die SS49, die Pustertaler Staatsstraße. Die Strecke wird jedoch bald wieder flacher. In Vintl angekommen verlässt das Feld die Talsohle und es beginnt der rund 6 Kilometer lange Anstieg nach Terenten, der eine durchschnittliche Steigung von 7,7 Prozent vorweist. In Terenten wird nach einer Gesamtstrecke von 32,6 Kilometern auch die erste Bergwertung entschieden. Anschließend geht es auf dem Hochplateau weiter in Richtung Pfalzen, bevor die Abfahrt nach Bruneck auf die Teilnehmer wartet. Einmal in der Hauptstadt des Pustertals angekommen, geht es in leichter aber stetiger Steigung am Flussbett der Rienz entlang.
KOM G.P.M. BERGWERTUNG
INTERMEDIATE SPRINT TV ZWISCHENSPRINT
Nach 62,6 Kilometern, immer auf der Trasse der SS49, befindet sich in der Nähe des Olanger Stausees der Verpflegungspunkt, während in Toblach nach 76,6 Kilometern der Zwischensprint entschieden wird. Danach wird Innichen gestreift, bevor nach insgesamt 88,9 Kilometern die italienisch-österreichische Staatsgrenze erreicht ist. Einmal in Österreich angekommen, fährt die Karawane die B100 entlang, die parallel zum bekannten Radweg verläuft, der von Toblach auf einer zum Teil angenehmen Abfahrt bis nach Lienz führt. Den Teilnehmern an der Tour of the Alps wird das Finale jedoch durch zwei Varianten erheblich erschwert: Zuerst geht es auf einer Länge von 4 Kilometern mit einer durchschnittlichen Steigung von 7% (mit Spitzenwerten über 10%) nach Anras. Nach einer kurzen und knackigen Abfahrt nach Thal-Aue biegen die Radprofis nach links ab von wo sie um die zweite Bergwertung hinauf nach Bannberg kämpfen. Auf diesem Streckenteil

setzten sich 1994 im Rahmen der 13. Etappe des Giro d’Italia Marco Pantani und Michele Bartoli in Szene. Der Abschnitt ist 6,9 Kilometer lang mit einer durchschnittlichen Steigung von 6,7% und läutet die letzten Kilometer bis nach Lienz ein. Im Anstieg könnte sich die Spreu vom Weizen trennen. Bei der abschließenden Abfahrt nach Lienz, die sehr technisch und schnell ist, wird den Radprofis das Adrenalin förmlich durch den Körper schießen. 4,2 Kilometer vor der Ziellinie geht es wieder auf die Hauptstraße. Das letzte Feuerwerk wird es dann auf der Zielgeraden in Lienz geben, wo am würdevollen Hauptplatz der Sieger gekürt wird.

EUREGIO EXPERIENCE THE STARTING LINE: KLAUSEN
Klausen is located along the river Eisack in South Tyrol and was historically a customs post. The village is overlooked by the Säben Castle and the homonymous abbey, one of the most popular pilgrimage centre in Tyrol. In 1494 Albrecht Dürer stayed in this village of narrow alleys. He is considered the greatest painter of the German Renaissance, who painted Klausen in the background of one of his famous artworks: "Das große Glück" ("The Great Fortune").

Situata lungo il corso del fiume Isarco, in Alto Adige, Chiusa è storicamente una località doganale. L’abitato è dominato dalla rocca di Sabiona con l’omonimo convento, una delle più frequentate mete di pellegrinaggio del Tirolo. In questo borgo dai vicoli stretti nel 1494 soggiornò il maestro Albrecht Dürer, considerato il massimo esponente della pittura tedesca rinascimentale, che dipinse Chiusa sullo sfondo di una sua famosa opera: “Das große Glück”. Ancor oggi Chiusa si annovera fra i più bei centri storici d’Italia: le facciate merlate dei palazzi, gli ampi bovindi e gli antichi stemmi delle locande hanno affascinato il club "I borghi più belli d’Italia".
DER START: KLAUSEN
Am Ufer des Eisacks in Südtirol gelegen, war Klausen in der Vergangenheit eine Zollstadt. Das Gemeindegebiet wird überthront vom Kloster Säben, das im Mittelalter Bischofssitz war und Pilger aus allen Teilen Tirols auf den Säbener Berg anlockte. In den engen Gassen Klausens verweilte 1494 auch der große Meister Albrecht Dürer, einer der herausragenden deutschen Maler der Renaissance. Er malte Klausens Panorama als Hintergrund für eines seiner größten Werke: “Das Große Glück”. Heute noch zählt Klausen zu den schönsten historischen Stadtzentren Italiens: Die mit Zinnen versehenen Fassaden, die großen Erker und die antiken Wappen der Wirtshäuser haben den Club "Die schönsten Orte Italiens" überzeugt.
ON THE ROAD
Short detours from the route of the stage lead to two natural monuments of unique beauty in High Puster Valley. The first is the Lake Prags, in the FanesSenes-Prags Nature Park - its turquoise water with light emerald green hues is mesmerizing. Further on: the "Tre Cime di Lavaredo" (Three Peaks of Lavaredo), one of the best-known mountain groups in the Dolomites, symbol of the Puster Valley.
SULLA STRADA
Brevi deviazioni dal percorso della tappa conducono a due monumenti naturali di incomparabile bellezza dell’Alta Pusteria. Il primo è il lago di Braies, nel Parco Fanes-Senes-Braies, incantevole con le sue acque turchine dalle leggere sfumature verde smeraldo. Più avanti ecco le Tre Cime di Lavaredo, uno dei più famosi gruppi montuosi delle Dolomiti, simbolo della Val Pusteria.
ENTLANG DER STRECKE
Ein kurzer Umweg von der Strecke der Etappe führt zu zwei Naturdenkmälern des Hochpustertals. Das erste ist der Pragser Wildsee im Naturpark Fanes-Sennes-Prags. Er verzaubert mit seinem Farbenspiel, das von Türkis bis Smaragdgrün reicht. Das zweite sind die Drei Zinnen, eine der bekanntesten Berggruppen der Dolomiten und Symbol des Pustertals.
THE STAGE TASTE
Among the cuisine specialties of Osttirol there are the Schlipkrapfen with potato filling. This pasta specialty is similar to Italian ravioli, and usually served with melted butter and grated cheese. Meat lovers should also try the “Schöpsernes”, made from mountain lamb. Sheep farming has been practiced in Osttirol for centuries, and the tender meat of mountain lamb is considered a delicacy. Finally, for digestion, there is Stamperl “Pregler”, a fruit brandy distilled from local apples and pears.
LA TAPPA DEL GUSTO
Fra le specialità gastronomiche dell’Osttirol si segnalano gli Schlipfkrapfen con ripieno di patate. Si tratta di una pasta simile ai ravioli, solitamente servita con burro fuso e formaggio grattugiato. Gli amanti della carne aprezzeranno gli Schöpsernesm fatti con carne di agnello di montagna. L’allevamento delle pecore è una tradizione secolare in Osttirol, e la tenera carne di agnello di montagna è considerata una prelibatezza. Infine, per digerire, c’è la Stamperl “Pregler”, un distillato di frutta ottenuto da mele e pere locali.

Zu den kulinarischen Highlights in Osttirol gehören die Schlipfkrapfen mit Kartoffelfülle. Along the daily route you can discover the famous cycle path ToblachInnichen-Lienz. The path connects Italy and Austria, following the course of the Drave river, amidst a stunning natural scenery. Lungo l’itinerario di giornata c’è da scoprire la famosa pista ciclabile Dobbiaco-San Candido-Lienz. Il percorso collega Italia e Austria seguendo il corso del fiume Drava, attraverso uno spettacolare scenario naturale. La pista, lunga 50 chilometri, è adatta anche alle famiglie, essendo in leggera discesa e poco impegnativa. Dopo un giro in città a Lienz, il viaggio di ritorno può essere comodamente effettuato in treno.

Entlang der Strecke des heutigen Teilstücks liegt der Radweg Toblach-Innichen-Lienz. Inmitten einer phantastischen Naturlandschaft folgt der Weg dem Verlauf der Drau und verbindet Italien mit Österreich. Die 50 Kilometer lange Strecke ist auch bei Familien sehr beliebt, da man leicht bergab und ohne große Mühen radelt. Nach einem Stadtbummel in Lienz erfolgt der Rückweg ganz bequem per Bahn.

THE CHARACTER
The World’s most famous son of South Tyrol is Reinhold Messner. The 73-year-old extreme mountaineer, adventurer and author was born in Brixen and grew up in Funes, in the Eisacktal. He became the first person to climb the Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen and was the first climber to ascend all 14 peaks over 8000 meters in the World. Since 2003 he has been curating a museum called MMM (Messner Mountain Museum), in six locations in South Tyrol and Belluno.

Reinhold Messner è uno degli altoatesini più famosi nel mondo. Il 73enne scalatore, escursionista e scrittore è nato a Bressanone e cresciuto a Funes, in Val Isarco. Primo uomo a scalare l’Everest senza ossigeno, primo a salire tutte le 14 vette del pianeta superiori agli 8000 metri. Dal 2003 sta curando un progetto museale chiamato MMM (Messner Mountain Museum), con sei sedi fra l’Alto Adige e la Provincia di Belluno.

THE ROUTE • IL PERCORSO • DIE ROUTE For the final and determining day of the race, the Tour of the Alps sets up a truly intriguing route. The start will be given in Rattenberg, the smallest historical city in Austria. After passing through the middle age city centre with its glassmakers’ workshops, the race starts on Tirolestrasse, northeastbound. In this passage there aren’t any tough climb, yet a continuous series of up-and-downs until the intermediate sprint in Mariastein (km 33,6). Back to southwest, after 56 km the peloton returns in the nearby of the start, but after passing Brixlegg, the road starts rising on the Alpbachtal, toward the first categorized climb of the day in Alpbach, “the most beautiful floreal village in Europe”, after 64,1 km; 7,4 km at a 7,1% average gradient will make a first group selection. A long and fast descent, through the residential area of Reith I'm Alpbachertal, will bring the race back to the valley floor and to the Tirolerstrasse in Brixlegg where the aid area starts. 15 flat kilometers will lead to a new uphill section, short and demanding, ending in Gnadewald (Km 105,3). This ascent represents an exclusive preview of the upcoming Road World Championship. A new downhill will lead the peroton to Hall in Tirol, before immediately climbing to Aldrans and the circuit which will host the golden race next September. A first time up the Igls/ Olympiaclimb climb will be followed by a fast descent to the outskirts of

Innsbruck and the entrance of the Olympiastrasse. From there (km 130,3) the riders will make two laps of a restricted portion of the rainbow circuit, 13,8 km long. The second time atop the climb (7,8 km at 5,5%) will award KoM points at km 138,1. The third and last time over the top of the ascent will haven with 12,3 km to go, 6 of which on descent, and the others in the heart of Innsbruck, practically following the World Championship circuit’s itinerary. Those who manage to earn a gap on the climb could actually have a shot of keeping it and get first on the finishing line, located on the Rennweg. Per l’ultima e decisiva giornata di gara, il Tour of the Alps propone un tracciato intrigante. Il via sarà dato da Rattenberg, la città storica più piccola dell’Austria. Dopo un breve trasferimento attraverso il centro storico medievale, caratterizzato da numerose botteghe di vetrai, la corsa prende le mosse sulla Tirolestrasse, in direzione nord-est. In questo tratto non si incontrano salite impegnative ma una serie continua di saliscendi fino al traguardo volante posto in località Mariastein (Km 33,6). Ritornando in direzione sud-ovest, dopo 56 km si torna a lambire la località di partenza e, oltrepassata Brixlegg, la strada si inerpica lungo il versante della Alpbachtal, verso il primo GPM di giornata, posto in località Alpbach, "il villaggio floreale più bello d'Europa", dopo 64,1 km. Saranno 7,4 km al 7,1% di pendenza
media a imporre la prima selezione in gruppo. Lunga e veloce discesa, attraversando il centro abitato di Reith im Alpbachertal, per ritrovare il fondovalle e la Tirolerstrasse presso Brixlegg dove ha inizio la zona rifornimento. Si percorrono 15 km pianeggianti prima di ritrovare un nuovo tratto in salita, breve ma impegnativo, che condurrà a Gnadenwald (Km 105,3). Questo tratto di strada è un’esclusiva anteprima della porzione in linea del prossimo Campionato del Mondo di ciclismo. Un nuovo tratto in discesa porterà la carovana ad Hall in Tirol, da dove si riprende subito a salire in direzione Aldrans e del circuito che ospiterà nel Settembre prossimo la rassegna iridata. Primo passaggio sulla vetta di Igls/Olympiaclimb, e prima veloce discesa verso la periferia di Innsbruck, fino all’imbocco della Olympiastrasse. Da questo punto (km 130,3) si percorreranno due tornate di una porzione “ristretta” del circuito mondiale, di 13,8 km ciascuna. Il secondo passaggio sul culmine della salita (7,8 km al 5,5%) sarà valido come traguardo GPM, al km 138,1. Il terzo ed ultimo passaggio sulla vetta avverrà a 12,3 km dal traguardo, i primi 6 dei quali in discesa, mentre i restanti nel cuore di Innsbruck, ricalcheranno quasi interamente il finale del circuito mondiale. Chi dovesse prendere vantaggio in cima alla salita, potrebbe avere buone possibilità di tagliare per primo il prestigioso traguardo posto nella Rennweg.

Am letzten und entscheidenden Renntag wartet die Tour of the Alps 2018 mit einer äußerst faszinierenden Strecke auf. Der Startschuss fällt in Rattenberg, der kleinsten Stadt Österreichs. Nach der Durchfahrt durch das mittelalterliche Stadtzentrum, das durch zahlreiche Glaser-Läden charakterisiert ist, nimmt das Rennen auf der Tirolerstraße seinen Lauf in nordöstliche Richtung. Auf diesem Abschnitt gibt es keine nennenswerten Steigungen, aber es geht ständig auf und ab bis zum Zwischensprint in Mariastein (33,6 km).
Dieser erste selektive Abschnitt ist 7,4 Kilometer lang mit einer durchschnittlichen Steigung von 7,1% wird eine erste Selektion zur Folge haben. Auf der langen und rasanten Abfahrt geht es unter anderem durch Reith im Alpbachertal und einmal in der Talsohle angekommen fahren die Radprofis auf der Tirolerstraße nach Brixlegg zum Verpflegungspunkt. Nach 15 flachen Kilometern folgt der nächste Abschnitt mit Steigung, die kurz aber anspruchsvoll ist und nach Gnadenwald (105,3 km) führt. Dieser Abschnitt ist eine exklusive Vorschau auf das, was die Rennradler bei der nächsten Rad-WM erwarten wird.
Anschließend geht es in südwestliche Richtung wieder zurück. Nach 56 Kilometern wird der Start-Ort neuerlich gestreift. Sobald die Radprofis Brixlegg hinter sich lassen, klettert die Straße das Alpbachtal hinauf in Richtung Bergwertung der Etappe, welche sich nach 64,1 Kilometern in der Ortschaft Alpbach, dem „Dorf mit der schönsten Blumenpracht Europas“ befindet.
Im Anschluss daran geht es für die Karawane wieder bergab nach Hall in Tirol, bevor der nächste Anstieg nach Aldrans beginnt. Hier startet auch ein Teil der WM-Strecke, die im September stattfinden wird. Es geht erstmals hinauf nach Igls/ Olympiaclimb, dann folgt die rasante Abfahrt in die Peripherie von Innsbruck bis zum Anfang der Olympiastraße. Von hier (KM 130,3)

werden zwei Schleifen zu jeweils 13,8 Kilometern auf einem begrenzten Teil des WM-Parcours in Angriff genommen. Bei der zweiten Durchfahrt wird auf dem höchsten Punkt des Anstiegs (7,8 km/5,5% Steigung) die zweite Bergwertung vergeben – nach insgesamt 138,1 Kilometern. Wenn die Radler dann zum dritten Mal die Anhöhe erreichen, müssen sie noch 12,3 Kilometer bis zum Ziel strampeln. Die ersten 6 Kilometer verlaufen bergab, danach geht es ins Stadtzentrum von Innsbruck, wo die Streckenführung fast identisch zu jener bei der WM ist. Sollte sich bei der Anhöhe jemand entscheidend abgesetzt haben, so hat dieser Radprofi gute Chancen, das Ziel am Rennweg als erster zu erreichen und den Tagessieg davonzutragen.

Rattenberg is Austria's smallest city, with only around 400 inhabitants and 0,11 km2. The residents live here out of conviction, in spite of the absence of things that are common in any neighborhood, like gardens, garages and cellars. The medieval town has plenty to offer, with its architecture, the Augustinermuseum, the Schlossberg and a number of glass-working craft laboratories.

Lungo il percorso della tappa, consigliamo di fermarsi ad Alpbach. Con l’architettura in legno massiccio e le splendide decorazioni floreali, Alpbach è considerato uno dei villaggi più belli di tutta l’Austria. Alpbach si trova ad esattamente 1000 metri sopra il livello del mare, ed è il punto di partenza ideale per escursioni ricche di fascino sulle Alpi di Kitzbühel. The Tirol region has a very diverse gastronomical scene, offering both international restaurants and traditional cuisine. In local taverns, typical delicacies can be tasted such as Kasspatzln, Knödel with various fillings, Tiroler Gröstl, or Brettljause with Speck, cheese and farmhouse bread. REGULATIONS TOUR OF THE ALPS 2018 ARTICLE 1. ORGANIZATION The Tour of the Alps is organized by Gruppo Sportivo Alto Garda A.S.D. It runs from 16th to 20th April 2018.
ARTICLE 10. CLASSIFICATIONS The following classifications will be issued: a) Individual classification by time – fuchsia jersey; b) Climber classification – green jersey; c) Individual young classification – white jersey; d) Intermediate sprint classification – red jersey; e) Team classification.
ARTICLE 2. TYPE OF EVENT The event is reserved to the athletes of the Men Elite categories, it is entered on the UCI Europe Tour calendar and it is registered as a class 2 HC event. In conformity with the UCI regulations art 2.10.31, points are awarded as follows: a) 200-150-125-100-85-70-60-50-40-35-30-25-20-15-10-55-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 points to the first 40 riders of the final general classification. b) 20 -10 – 5 – points will be assigned to the first 3 riders of each stage. c) 5 points will be assigned to the rider that wears the jersey of leader in every stage.
a) INDIVIDUAL CLASSIFICATION BY TIME It is established by the commissioners – timekeepers according to UCI regulations.
ARTICLE 3. PARTICIPATION As per article 2.1.005 of the UCI regulations, the event is open to the following teams: UCI WordTeams, UCI Professional Continental Teams, UCI Continental foreign Teams (max 2), UCI Continental Teams of the country and Italian national team. According to the article 2.2.003 of the UCI regulations, teams have to be composed by 5 riders minimum and 7 maximum. ARTICLE 4. RACE HEADQUARTERS At the start, the race headquarters will be open on 25th April 2018 from 14:00, located at the following address: Casinò Municipale viale delle Magnolie ad Arco. The confirmation of the starters and the taking of their race numbers at the race headquarters will take place from 15:00 to 16:45 on the 15th April 2018 by Team’s representatives. The team director meeting, organized in accordance with article 1.2.087 of the UCI regulations, in the presence of the Commissaries Panel, is set at the headquarters at 17 pm. ARTICLE 5. RADIO-TOUR Race information will be broadcast on the following frequency: MHZ 149,850. ARTICLE 6. NEUTRAL TECHNICAL SUPPORT The technical support service is managed by team Casolari Selle Italia by means of three suitably equipped vehicles. ARTICLE 7. FINISH AT THE TOP OF A HILL – CLIMB Articles 2.6.027 and 2.6.028 will not apply where the finish is at the top of a hill-climb. Stages with finish at the top of a hill-climb for the application with article 2.6.029 are following: 2nd stage – 17th April – Lavarone – Fiemme Alpe di Pampeago. Every discussion regarding the definition “at the top of a hill-climb” and “before the climb” will be decided by the commissaries panel. ARTICLE 8. TIME BONUS – REPORTS For each stage finish time bonus are provided: 10"- 6" – 4" for the top three classified. ARTICLE 9. TIME LIMITS Taking into account the characteristics of each stage, time limits have been set as follows: • 12% of winner’s time in the 1th – 3rd stage; • 15% of winner’s time in the 2nd – 4th – 5th stage.

In case of ex aequo in the individual young classification, the final general time ranking will be used. To be eligible for awards of final general classification, the rider must finish the entire course in the maximum time. d) INTERMEDIATE SPRINT CLASSIFICATION The general intermediate sprint classification is established by adding together the points obtained on all sprints: Score – In every sprint stage are assigned the following points: 6 – 4 – 2 to top three. In accordance with art. 2.6.017 UCI, in case of ex aequo in the individual general classification of intermediate sprint, it will be taken into account: • in the first instancethe number of victories in the sprints; • In the second and last instance, the overall individual time.

e) TEAM CLASSIFICATION In accordance with article. 2.6.016 UCI, the classification by teams will be calculated on the basis of the addition of the three best times recorded by the riders of each team. In case of ex aequo, the criteria applied to separate the teams will be: • with the addition of the placements obtained by their first three riders of the stage. • in case of new parity it will be used to placing their highest ranked rider in the stage. The team general classification is obtained by the addition of the three best individual times of each team in all stages played. In case of further ex aequo and until it has diversification, the following criteria are applied: a) the number of first places in the ranking daily team; b) number of second places in the daily ranking teams, etc.. c) If the ex aequo persists, the position of their best rider placed in the general individual classification will make the difference. Each team reduced to less than n. three riders is eliminated from the general classification.

ARTICLE 12. ANTIDOPING The UCI antidoping regulations are entirely applicable to the event; moreover, and in conformity with the Italian law, the Italian antidoping legislation is applicable in addition to the UCI antidoping regulations. The antidoping tests will take place in the areas provided in the finish line. ARTICLE 13. AWARDS CEREMONY According to art. 1.12.112 UCI, these riders must attend the awards ceremony every day: – The stage winner – The leaders of following classifications: a) General by time; b) General climber’s; c) General for young riders; d) General by Intermediate Sprints. These riders will go to the podium by ten minutes after the finish. The stage winner and the leader of individual general classification, after the awards ceremony, must go pressroom for the interviews. ARTICLE 14. PENALTIES The UCI penalty scale is the only one applicable. ARTICLE 15. ECOLOGY In tuning with the ecological campaign supported from the UCI and with the purpose to disperse in the nature any waste material it appeals to the civic sense of the participants with the purpose not to throw refusals along the road but instead to get rid in the feed zone where an entrusted firm will make the disposal. The non-respect of such disposition will accordingly be sanctioned to the art. 12.1.007 UCI. ARTICLE 16. GENERAL DISPOSITIONS Only persons reported at pick up of marks by the owner of the respective vehicle can follow the race. Possible changes or additions must be notify to the organization Director. The drivers of the cars and the accredited motorbikes must respect the code of the road and follow the dispositions of the O.D and of his collaborators. People, who don’t have duties recognized by Organizer, can’t follow the race. The organizer cannot be held accountable for any damage of any nature arising from incidents which occurred before, during and after the race to spectators and people in general, even if unrelated to the event itself, depending on any actions implemented by the Organizer himself. What is not envisaged in this regulation is subject to the UCI and FCI Regulation.

Si disputa dal 16 al 20 aprile 2018. ARTICOLO 2. TIPO DI PROVA La prova è riservata agli atleti delle categorie ME. È iscritta al Calendario UCI – Europa Tour ed è classificata in classe 2 HC. Conformemente all’art 2.10.031 regolamento UCI, attribuisce i punti seguenti: a) 200-150-125-100-85-70-60-50-40-35-30-25-20-15-10-55-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 punti ai primi 40 classificati della classifica individuale finale. b) 20-10-5 punti ai primi 3 di ogni tappa. c) 5 punti per colui che indossa la maglia da leader della prova (per tappa). Conformemente all’art. 2.2.003 del regolamento UCI, il numero minimo di corridori per squadra è 5 e il massimo 7. ARTICOLO 4. QUARTIER TAPPA Il quartier tappa di partenza si tiene il 15 aprile 2018 alle ore 14.00 presso il Casinò Municipale viale delle Magnolie ad Arco. La conferma dei partenti e il ritiro dei dorsali da parte dei responsabili delle squadre avverrà al quartier tappa dalle 15 alle 16,45 del 15 aprile 2018. La riunione dei direttori sportivi, organizzata secondo l’art 1.2.087 RT – UCI alla presenza dei componenti del Collegio dei Commissari, è fissata alle ore 17.00 presso il quartier tappa. ARTICOLO 5. RADIO-TOUR Le informazioni in corsa, sono emesse sulla frequenza radio tour di MHZ 149,850. ARTICOLO 6. ASSISTENZA TECNICA Il servizio di assistenza è assicurato dal Team Casolari Selle Italia con l’utilizzo di tre vetture opportunamente attrezzate. ARTICOLO 7. ARRIVO IN SALITA Gli articoli 2.6.027 e 2.6.028 non sono applicabili in caso di arrivo in salita.Le tappe con arrivo in salita per l’applicazione dell’art. 2.6.029 sono: 2^ tappa – 17 aprile – Lavarone – Fiemme Alpe di Pampeago. Ogni discussione in merito alla definizione “arrivo in salita“ e “inizio dell’ascensione“ sarà definita dal Collegio dei Commissari. ARTICOLO 8. ABBUONI Per ogni arrivo di tappa sono previsti i seguenti abbuoni: 10" – 6" – 4" per i primi tre classificati. ARTICOLO 9. TEMPO MASSIMO In funzione delle caratteristiche delle tappe, il tempo massimo è stato fissato come segue: • 12% del tempo del vincitore nella 1^- 3^ tappa; • 15% del tempo del vincitore nella 2^- 4^- 5^ tappa. ARTICOLO 10. In caso di parità nella classifica individuale dei giovani, spareggerà la classifica generale individuale a tempi. Per beneficiare del premio di classifica generale finale, il concorrente deve avere compiuto la totalità del percorso della prova in tempo massimo. d) CLASSIFICA TV Stabilita dalla somma dei punti ottenuti negli sprint intermedi. Punteggio – Sono attribuiti i seguenti punti ad ogni sprint di tappa: 6 – 4 – 2 ai primi 3 classificati. In conformità all’art. 2.6.017 RT-UCI, in caso di parità nella classifica generale individuale, sarà tenuto conto: • In prima istanza del numero delle vittorie negli sprint; • In seconda ed ultima istanza, della classifica generale individuale a tempi. e) CLASSIFICA A SQUADRE Conformemente all’art. 2.6.016 RT-UCI, la classifica a squadre giornaliera è ricavata dall’addizione dei tre migliori tempi individuali di ogni squadra. In caso di parità, le squadre sono spareggiate: • con l’addizione dei piazzamenti ottenuti dai loro primi tre corridori della tappa. • in caso di nuova parità, si farà ricorso al piazzamento del loro corridore meglio classificato nella tappa. La classifica generale a squadre è ricavata dall’addizione dei tre migliori tempi individuali d’ogni squadra in tutte le tappe disputate. In caso di nuova parità e fino a quando non si ha la diversificazione, sono applicati i criteri che seguono: a) Numero di primi posti nella classifica giornaliera a squadre; b) Numero dei secondi posti nella classifica giornaliera a squadre; etc. c) Se la parità persiste, le squadre sono spareggiate dal piazzamento del loro corridore meglio piazzato nella classifica generale individuale. ANTIDOPING Alla prova si applica integralmente il regolamento antidoping dell’UCI. Inoltre la legislazione antidoping italiana si applica in conformità alle disposizioni di legge dell’Italia. Il controllo antidoping avrà luogo nei locali predisposti nella zona arrivo. ARTICOLO 13. PROTOCOLLO Conformemente all’art. 1.2.112 RT – UCI, devono presentarsi quotidianamente alla cerimonia protocollare i seguenti corridori: – Il vincitore della tappa; – i leader delle classifiche seguenti: a) generale a tempi; b) generale GPM; c) generale Giovani; d) generale TV. Essi si presenteranno entro dieci minuti dal loro arrivo. Il vincitore della tappa ed il capoclassifica, dopo la cerimonia protocollare, devono presentarsi in sala stampa per le interviste. ARTICOLO 14. TABELLA PENALIZZAZIONI Le penalizzazioni sono quelle previste dai regolamenti UCI. ARTICOLO 15. ECOLOGIA In sintonia con la campagna ecologica caldeggiata dall’UCI ed al fine di non disperdere nella natura il materiale di risulta, si fa appello al senso civico dei partecipanti al fine di non gettare rifiuti lungo la strada, bensì di disfarsene nell’ambito della zona rifornimento dove si provvederà alla raccolta. Il mancato rispetto di tale disposizione verrà sanzionato conformemente all’art. 12.1.007 RT-UCI. ARTICOLO 16. DISPOSIZIONI GENERALI Possono seguire la corsa solo le persone denunciate all’atto del ritiro dei contrassegni dal titolare del rispettivo automezzo. Eventuali modifiche o aggiunte devono essere notificate al Direttore d’Organizzazione. I conducenti delle auto e delle moto accreditate devono rispettare il codice della strada e sottostare alle disposizioni del D.O e dei suoi collaboratori. Non possono seguire la corsa persone che non abbiano funzioni riconosciute dall’Organizzatore. All’Ente organizzatore non possono essere attribuite responsabilità di alcuna natura per danni derivanti da incidenti verificatisi prima, durante e dopo la corsa a spettatori e persone in genere, anche se estranee alla manifestazione stessa, in dipendenza di azioni non messe in atto dall’Organizzatore medesimo. Per quanto non contemplato nel presente regolamento valgono i regolamenti UCI ed FCI.

REGLEMENT TOUR OF THE ALPS 2018 ARTIKEL 1. ORGANISATION Die Tour of the Alps wird durch den Verein „Gruppo Sportivo Alto Garda A.S.D.“ (D.O Fosco Beltrani – 335 6511592 foscobeltrani@yahoo.it) Viale Rovereto 16 – 38062 Arco di Trento – Tel.: 0464 516104 – Fax: 0464 518590 – e-mail: gsaltogarda@gmail.com unter Einhaltung des Reglements der UCI organisiert. Die Rundfahrt findet vom 16. bis 20. April 2018 statt. ARTIKEL 2. ART DER VERANSTALTUNG Die Teilnahme am Rennen ist Athleten der Kategorie ME vorbehalten. Sie ist in den UCI-Kalender – Europa Tour eingetragen und ein Rennen der Klasse 2 HC. Entsprechend dem UCI-Reglement Art 2.10.031, werden folgende Punkte vergeben: a) 200-150-125-100-85-70-60-50-40-35-30-25-20-15-10-55-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 Punkte für die ersten 40 Fahrer des Gesamtklassements. b) 20-10-5 Punkte für die 3 besten Fahrer pro Etappe. c) 5 Punkte für den Träger des Trikots des Gesamtführenden (pro Etappe). ARTIKEL 3. TEILNAHME Teilnahmeberechtigt sind laut Artikel 2.1.005 des UCI-Reglements folgende Mannschaften: UCI WorldTeams, Profiteams der UCI, ausländische UCI Continental Teams (max. 2), italienische Continental Teams und die italienische Nationalmannschaft. Entsprechend dem UCI-Reglement Art. 2.2.003 besteht jedes Team aus mindestens 5 und maximal 7 Fahrern. ARTIKEL 4. RENNBÜRO Das Rennbüro am Startort der ersten Etappe befindet sich im Casino Arco (Casinò Municipale) im Viale delle Magnolie in Arco. Es ist am 15. April 2018 ab 14 Uhr geöffnet. Die Bestätigung der Fahrer der teilnehmenden Mannschaften und die Abholung der Startnummern erfolgt am 15. April 2018 im Rennbüro in der Zeit von 15.00 bis 16.45 Uhr. Die Sitzung der Mannschaftsführer gemäß UCI- Reglement Art. 1.2.087 findet im Beisein der Mitglieder des Kollegiums der Kommissäre am 15. April um 17 Uhr im Rennbüro statt. ARTIKEL 5. RADIO-TOUR Alle Renn-Informationen werden über Radio Tour über die Frequenz 149,850 MHz mitgeteilt. ARTIKEL 6. TECHNISCHE ASSISTENZ Die technische Assistenz wird vom Team Casolari Selle Italia gewährleistet, das drei neutrale und bestens ausgestattete Mechaniker-Fahrzeuge stellt. ARTIKEL 7. BERGANKÜNFTE Die Artikel 2.6.027 und 2.6.028 des UCI-Reglements können bei Etappen mit einer Zielankunft am Berg nicht angewandt werden. Etappen mit einer Bergankunft gemäß Artikel 2.6.029 des UCI-Reglements sind: 2. Etappe – 17. April – Lavarone – Fiemme Alpe di Pampeago. Jegliche Diskussion bezüglich der Definition des “Endpunktes des Anstieges” und “vor dem Anstieg” wird durch das Kollegium der Kommissäre entschieden. ARTIKEL 8. ZEITGUTSCHRIFTEN Für jede Etappe werden folgende Zeitgutschriften vergeben: 10"- 6" – 4" für die ersten drei Fahrer einer jeden Etappe. ARTIKEL 9. KARENZZEIT Die Karenzzeiten variieren je nach Art und Schwierigkeit der einzelnen Etappen: • 12% der Siegerzeit auf den Etappen 1 und 3 • 15% der Siegerzeit auf den Etappen 2, 4 und 5 ARTIKEL 10. WERTUNGEN Es gibt folgende Wertungen: a) Einzel-Gesamtwertung nach Zeit – Fuchsia Trikot; b) Bergwertung – Grünes Trikot; c) Nachwuchswertung – Weißes Trikot; d) Sprintwertung – Rotes Trikot; e) Teamwertung.

Jänner 1995 (23 Jahre) geboren wurden. Sollte nach dem Ende der Lizenzkontrolle keine akzeptable Anzahl an Fahrern erreicht werden, kann die Altersbeschränkung noch verändert werden. Im Falle von Gleichstand entscheidet die GesamtEinzelwertung nach Zeit nach der letzten Etappe. Um die ausgeschriebenen Preise laut Nachwuchswertung zu erhalten, muss jeder Fahrer das Rennen innerhalb der Karenzzeit beendet haben. d) SPRINTWERTUNG Die Gesamt-Sprintwertung wird erstellt, indem die erzielten Punkte der einzelnen Sprintwertungen des Rennens addiert werden. Punkteverteilung: 6 – 4 – 2 für die ersten 3 Fahrer. e) TEAM WERTUNG Gemäß Art. 2.6.016 der UCI-Bestimmungen wird das EtappenMannschaftsklassement erstellt, indem die drei zeitbesten Fahrer jeder Mannschaft gewertet und addiert werden. Bei Zeitgleichheit finden folgende Kriterien, bis zur Aufhebung des Gleichstandes, Anwendung: • Addition der Ränge der drei bestplatzierten Fahrer einer Mannschaft im Etappenklassement. • Bei weiterem Gleichstand zählt der Rang des bestplatzierten Fahrers einer Mannschaft im Etappenklassement. Das Gesamt-Mannschaftsklassement wird erstellt, in dem die drei besten Einzelzeiten des jeweiligen Teams aller ausgetragenen Etappen addiert werden. Bei Zeitgleichheit finden folgende Kriterien, bis zur Aufhebung des Gleichstandes, Anwendung: a) Anzahl der ersten Plätze in der täglichen Mannschafts-Wertung b) Anzahl der zweiten Plätze in der täglichen MannschaftsWertung, etc. c) Bei Gleichstand erfolgt die Reihung nach dem bestplatzierten Fahrer der Mannschaft im Einzel-Gesamtklassement nach Zeit. Jede Mannschaft, die das Etappenrennen mit weniger als 3 Fahrern beendet, wird aus dem Mannschaftsklassement genommen.

ANTIDOPING Beim Rennen wird vollständig das Antidoping-Reglement der UCI angewandt. Außerdem werden die italienischen AntidopingBestimmungen in Übereinstimmung mit dem italienischen Recht angewandt. Die Antidopingkontrollen werden in den dafür vorgesehen Lokalen im Zielgelände durchgeführt. ARTIKEL 13. SIEGEREHRUNG Folgende Fahrer sind gemäß Art. 1.2.112 der UCIBestimmungen ausnahmslos verpflichtet, sofort nach Erreichen des Zieles für die offizielle Siegerehrung zur Verfügung zu stehen: – Der Sieger der Etappe – die Führenden folgender Wertungen: a) Einzel-Gesamtwertung b) Bergwertung c) Nachwuchswertung d) Sprintwertung Diese Fahrer haben sich spätestens 10 Minuten nach Zielankunft beim Podium einzufinden. Der Etappensieger und der Führende der Einzel-Gesamtwertung nach Zeit müssen nach der Siegerehrung noch an der Pressekonferenz im Pressebüro teilnehmen. ARTIKEL 14. STRAFEN-KATALOG Es kommt ausschließlich der Strafen-Katalog der UCI zur Anwendung. ARTIKEL 15. UMWELT Im Zusammenhang mit den umweltschützenden Aktivitäten der UCI und dem Ziel, Umweltverschmutzung zu vermeiden, werden die Fahrer ersucht ihren Müll in der Verpflegungszone wegzuwerfen, wo dieser in weiterer Folge vom Veranstalter gesammelt und entsorgt wird. Das Nicht-Respektieren dieser Anweisung wird nach Art. 12.1.007 des UCI-Reglements sanktioniert. ARTIKEL 16. ALLGEMEINE BESTIMMUNGEN Nur autorisierte Personen welche berechtigt sind, das zugelassen Fahrzeug zu lenken, können dem Rennkonvoi folgen. Etwaige Änderungen müssen dem Organisationsleiter mitgeteilt werden. Die Fahrer der dementsprechenden Fahrzeuge und Motorräder müssen die jeweils geltenden Straßenverkehrsordnung und den Anweisungen des Organisationsleiters und seiner Mitarbeiter Folge leisten. Jeder Teilnehmer nimmt dieses Reglement vorbehaltlos zur Kenntnis und unterwirft sich diesem automatisch durch seine Teilnahme. Der Veranstalter kann nicht zur Verantwortung gezogen werden für jeglichen Schaden durch Unfälle welche vor, während und nach dem Rennen oder auch ohne Bezug zu diesem an Menschen und Objekten entstanden ist. Was nicht speziell in dieser Ausschreibung erwähnt wurde, unterliegt dem Reglement der UCI und FCI. Bei allfälliger Differenz der Regelauslegung ist alleine der italienische Text der Ausschreibung maßgebend.

RISPETTO • RESPEKT In accordance with the values of the three Territories of the Euroregion, the Tour of the Alps bears a concept of respect that involves both the world of competitions and the everyday life. Respect for the riders, who are asking for attention from the motor vehicles’ drivers by leaving a minimum distance, first and crucial requirement to guarantee people’s safety. The riders in the race will display on their back numbers the symbol of a campaign by the Associazione Corridori Ciclisti Professionisti Italiani (ACCPI), raising awareness on the recurrence of road accidents with riders as victims, including the one that stripped life away of Michele Scarponi, the day after the end of 2017 Tour of the Alps.

Il Tour of the Alps, fedele ai valori che accomunano le tre regioni dell’Euregio, vuole farsi portatore di un concetto di rispetto che riguarda il mondo delle competizioni così come la vita di ogni giorno. Rispetto per i ciclisti, che chiedono attenzione da parte degli automobilisti osservando una distanza di sicurezza che è il primo requisito per garantire l’incolumità delle persone. I corridori che partecipano alla gara portano sul numero di gara applicato al telaio il simbolo della campagna promossa dall’Associazione Corridori Professionisti nel ricordo delle troppe vittime di incidenti stradali, uno dei quali giusto un anno fa è costato la vita a Michele Scarponi, appena tornato a casa proprio dal Tour of the Alps.

Die Tour of the Alps treibt ein Konzept voran, das den gemeinsamen Werten der drei Euregio-Regionen entspricht und in dessen Mittelpunkt der Respekt steht – sei es im Wettkampf, sei es im täglichen Leben. Respekt vor den Radfahrern, die die Autofahrer dazu aufrufen, den Sicherheitsabstand einzuhalten. Das ist die erste Voraussetzung, um die Unversehrtheit von Menschen zu garantieren. Die teilnehmenden Radsportler tragen auf ihrer Startnummer und dem Rahmen ihres Rennrads das Symbol der von der Vereinigung der Radprofis ins Leben gerufenen Kampagne im Gedenken der (zu) vielen Opfer von Verkehrsunfällen. Einer dieser Unfälle hat Michele Scarponi das Leben gekostet, kurz nachdem er von der Tour of the Alps nach Hause zurückgekehrt war.
