Thousands gathered at the Long Beach Convention Center today to mourn Capt. David Rosa, who was shot to death while responding to a fire last week.

The memorial service began with a procession of hundreds of firefighters entering the venue and a flyover of first-responders’ helicopters.

Rosa was shot around 4 a.m. on June 25, while responding to a fire at a senior-living home in Downtown Long Beach. Authorities have charged a 77-year-old man, Thomas Kim, with murder and arson for allegedly setting off a bomb in his apartment before opening fire.
