There has never been such a close competition for the UCI XC World Cup title before. All season we saw Kate Courtney go head-to-head with Swiss national champion, Jolanda Neff. Trading rounds and acclimating points for the overall, the final round of the World Cup season came to an intense finale in Snowshoe, USA.
Having lost her UCI World Champion title to Pauline Ferrand-Prevot in Monte Sainte earlier in the season, Kate Courtney laid everything on the line to make up the few points that separated her and Neff.— Red Bull
I still think the most underrated moment of the 2019 season was when Pauline crossed the finish line with her entire head tangled up in the French flag. Which event that was, I can't remember; still funny though!
Cannot WAIT for the 2020 season! Women's mtbing is so good right now.
Cant believe to top professionals are pinning numbers to their clothing - that seems so low tech. Sure it works, but there must be a better way than pins and paper.
Terpstra had a fantastic year as well, with a win and a 2nd place. Sina Frei is starting her first year as a full timer in the elites. Look for Langvad to have a much stronger season. Tauber was in excellent form but had bad luck with mechanicals. Chloe Woodruff won a short track and several top tens. Emily Batty may or may not return to form.
There are at least 10 women who have a chance of winning next year.
Honestly, being at Snowshoe to meet and cheer Kate on with my daughter was one of the greatest experiences of my life. She really is an incredible role model that puts her fans first and leaves it all on the dirt, every race.
Shark FTW in 2020, and let’s get the World Cup back in Snowshoe in 2021!!
Just Awesome! There are so many levels to how great and legitimate Kate Courtney is, certainly beyond me to put it in words. One thing that I always think is the balance of being the world’s best MTBer and attending Stanford university, the world’s best school. I’m very happy for her - great to see her success and looking forward to following the battles next season.
When did falling down at the finish line become such a thing? Used to be you'd stay on your bike even if you're utterly inside-out. Yeah I know it hurts but come on - everybody's rolling around on the ground like Fignon after he got overhauled by Lemond in the TT. Stay on your bike. Its a psych thing.
