About the Business
Mu kratha (sometimes also spelled mookata), meaning “pan pork,” is a style of Thai cuisine that combines Korean barbecue and Chinese hot pot into a perfect symphony of sweat, spice, and joyous gluttony. You can find mu kratha restaurants all over Thailand, which offer a DIY dinner where you pay a fixed price for a buffet of food that you cook using a special skillet and charcoal grill.

Fortunately, my partner and I were able to get a table despite not making a reservation. Arriving right when they open (5pm ish) worked like a charm!
The decor is super cute inside and I loved that they used stools to sit on to make it feel like a real southeast Asian eating experience. The restaurant staff were incredibly friendly and explained the menu in depth as well. We were set on the CYO bbq/hotpot and they brought out everything very quick. The meat was super tender and it paired great with the spicy green sauce. The hotpot broth was very light but it enhances with flavor the more you keep grilling the meat and its juices mix in with soup.
Overall, the food, ambiance, and service were incredible! Looking forward to visiting this place again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 4, 20245 check-ins
If you are looking for a variety of meats, this is the place to go. I enjoy ordering the set menu for two because you don't need to think about what to order - it comes with all the different types of protein that you can think of: seafood, beef, pork, chicken, and egg. It also comes with carbs and vegetables, so that you can eat a balanced meal. The sauces and broth are flavorful too!
This place is very unique because you can grill and do hot pot at the same time. When you grill the meats, The sauces will drip into the hot pot broth to add more flavor.
I enjoy coming here with a large group for celebrations because it is a lively atmosphere, and the food is delicious. Make sure to make a reservation before you come because it gets crowded.
A complaint I have is that the restaurant is very cold. Depending on where the wind is coming from, it can get uncomfortable if you are sitting at a spot where the smoke blows into your face.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Spencer L.San Francisco, CA1266Mar 31, 2024
The service is great, the food is great, and the decor is charming.
Beef is usually the go-to for BBQ places, but surprisingly I'd say the chicken is the tastiest; always juicy and very flavorful from the marinade. Also, the scallops are fresh and bouncy, and the thai tea is aromatic and not too sweet. There's also this fried chives batter appetizer that I can't remember the name of but that was also quite tasty.
The star of the show though is the green seafood sauce. It's got the perfect mix of spice and acidity that goes really well with the BBQ meats. If they sold that sauce in bottles, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I'd recommend getting a table with the charcoal grill so that you can experience that satisfying smoky flavor that gets infused into the grilled meats.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 24, 20242 check-ins
I've never had Thai bbq before so I was so excited to try this place. Since we didn't make a reservation, we couldn't be seated at the charcoal bbq table, but the portable stove was great. This bbq has both bbq grill that drips the fat into a hotpot. My only complaint was that the grill wasn't big enough as the bbq meat kept slipping into the broth.
Chef's Selection (5/5): This is a must get as it comes with every thing and I definitely recommend this if you want to try everything. It came with marinated meat, chicken, squid, fishball roe, bacon, pork belly, scallop, fish cake, and shrimp. I definitely really enjoyed the marinated beef.
Beef Tongue (4/5): This wasn't as chewy as I thought as it was pretty tough.
I definitely enjoyed my experience here and hopefully next time I can make a reservation.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 2024
The servers were so friendly here and shared their stories about thailand with us, and the manager also had dinner alongside us that night so you know the food is good. I really enjoyed coming here because I enjoy late night eats and there's rarely any places that are open late, and this place opened up till midnight, they make it very easy to order where they offer these hot pot and grill specials for either one or two people. My only feedback is to include more meat or vegetables for the value of the hot pots. The amount was underwhelming for the value
Last thing I want to mention is that the tamarind and green sauce is delicious!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 20, 2024
Very unique experience, featuring Thai style DIY bbq! The place was very crowded when we went, so would recommend making a reservation ahead out of time. Also refreshingly they have a decent number of non-beef/pork options, making it a nice BBQ option for those with dietary restrictions. The sauces are very flavorful and spicy, with a distinctly Thai flavor. The interior features group seating in an intimate setting. Overall would recommend, very fun time! The basil noodles were also amazing and had a large amount of kick.

Grill and hot pot all in one? Say less!
A great place for big party food and drink. We ordered the chef's selection of meats and veggies and everyone got to taste a little bit of everything.
Not pictured but make sure to order some of their regular dishes as well - they have a LARGE menu. Our favorites were the chives cake, Tom Yum fried rice and the chicken wings.
Servers were super friendly and please be patient with them as you are ordering because the place can get loud depending on the crowd!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 954141Feb 26, 20241 check-in
Made a reservation for 5:30 on a Sunday. Wasn't super crowded. The place has tons of seating and has a super cutely decorated interior. Unfortunately our table was pretty small, and the bar stools made it so we had to carry our bags the whole time. The staff were super nice and got right to helping us order since we have never tried Thai bbq before.
We opted for the chef's special for 2 people which came with various meats, veggies, and two carbs. For our carbs we chose udon and garlic fried rice (must get!). I got a little scared because all the meat (including chicken) got put on the same plate. The chicken did have its own little bowl, but it gets dicey with the grill size and one set of tongs per person. For appetizers who chose yum mama (noodle salad with mama noodles, super yummy but not a huge portion) and the raw marinated salmon (also super yummy but we found a bone so be careful!). They did forget our salmon and fried rice, but it came out shortly after a reminder. The sauces they give you with the meal are AMAZING! My favorite was the spicy, sour green sauce.
As for the grill itself - it's a small grill in the middle of an outer circle of broth. The grill was honestly not the easiest to use since a lot of the seafood pieces that we were trying to grill kept falling into the broth. The grill also got burnt quickly but they didn't change it. The broth doesn't get flavorful until quite later in the meal when meat drippings have gotten in to it.
Overall, not mind blowing food imo, but a cool experience that I am glad I got to try at least once! We did end up smelling entirely like charcoal afterwards haha. Spent about $40 per person for three people. Parking is pretty easy and the free Thai tea at check-in is nice!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 12, 2024
Really tasty meal, high quality meats and delicious sauces, however the portions are on the smaller size
All the meats were really good, favorites were the pork shoulder and beef ribeye (?)
Chefs platter for 2 came with the meats (chicken, pork shoulder, pork belly, pork liver, beef ribeye, shrimp, squid, scallop, crab stick, sausage, and fish ball) + veg (egg, cabbage, bok choy) pictured plus two carbs (we got instant noodles and garlic fried rice. We also ordered the papaya salad with fermented crab which was really tasty with strong and punchy flavors.
Haven't had Thai bbq before so the grill + soup combo in this way was unique and enjoyable.
Staff was also very attentive and friendly. Would recommend trying with friends!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
