MarineMax Wrightsville Beach Out for a Win at the Southport Inshore Challenge

2014-210-Dauntless-Fish-0230
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C., (June 16, 2015) – On June 21, 2015 MarineMax Wrightsville Beach will compete with some of the best inshore anglers in the Greater Wilmington area at the Fisherman’s Post Southport Inshore Challenge. The tournament targets flounder and features a Tournament Within a Tournament (TWT) for red drum.

“Last year our MarineMax Wrightsville Beach fishing team didn’t make the leaderboard,” said Thom Cross, MarineMax Wrightsville Beach Store Manager. “This year the team is going all out to win.”

The MarineMax Wrightsville Beach team will consist of, team captain Wes Edwards and crew Zachary Messick and Jack Humphrey. They will be fishing from a Boston Whaler 210 Dauntless with team graphics.

The Southport Inshore Challenge’s primary prize category is the heaviest 2 flounder aggregate weight. However, there are several TWTs including heaviest single red drum, Junior Angler and Senior Angler.

With over $15,000 in cash payouts, the tournament is a family friendly relaxed event with rules that allow both live and dead weigh in. The tournament organizers are committed to conservation and will be awarding bonus cash payouts for fish making the leader board in releasable condition. However, the organizers do not want to penalize crews that do not have the ability to keep large flounder or red drum alive.

The tournament will be held at Southport Marina. The Captain’s Meeting will be held on June 19, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The fishing, Awards Party and Awards Ceremony will be June 20, 2015. The tournament has an honor start at 6:00 a.m. and weigh in is over at 4:00 p.m. Boats with weighable fish must be in line by 4:00 p.m.

“We had a lot of fun last year. This is a relaxed, low key tournament run by the good people at Fisherman’s Post,” concluded Wes Edwards, MarineMax Parts Manager. “We are determined to get on the board this year. We would love to have people come on down and cheer us on.”

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida supporting the health and well-being of the children throughout Southwest Florida is commendable and deserves our support,” explained J.C. Schwalback. “The best part is that we get to have fun and the team gets to fish some of the best offshore fishing right here in Fort Myers; having a blast while supporting a great cause.”

The tournament was held at Salty Sam’s Marina and Bootleggers Waterfront BBQ. The fishing began at 6:00 a.m. and the weigh in closed at 6:00 p.m. After the fishing, the fund raising Reggae Party commenced with food, music and drinks from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. In addition to silent and live auctions there was an opportunity to enter to win a Kia Soul, donated by Fuccillo KIA. The drawing will be held on June 11, 2015.

The winner was Jason Schreyer on “Honey Money”, bringing in a possible world record black grouper weighing over 124 pounds. In all there were 1,200 pounds of fish caught. All the fish were donated, cleaned and prepared for the main course at the Reggae Party.

“Once again, the MarineMax fishing team failed to get on the board. Of course we would love to win and will be prepared to do that next year. However, the reason we enter year after year is to give back to the Fort Myers community where our fantastic clients live and boat, as well as, for the incredible opportunity to offer the best brands and provide outstanding services at our MarineMax facility,” concluded J.C.
