As a painter, engraver, lithographer, moviemaker and writer Alechinsky is an artist with numerous facets. In 1949 he became a member of Cobra, a movement which is characterised by a fruitful artistic collaboration and which would give him cause to his four-handed works. In 1955 he travelled to Japan where he shot the film Calligraphie japonaise. His work was crowned with numerous prizes and is being displayed all over the world.(New York Guggenheim, 1987 – Paris, Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, 1998 – Brussels, Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten van België, 2007-2008).
