When David Became Goliath

We all know the story. Little David sunk a stone so deep into Goliath’s frontal lobe he never woke up after impact. One decapitated Philistine later, the not-yet-king became a hero and the most popular underdog, to date, in human history.

For me though, the most interesting thing about David’s well know life story is not that episode. It was that time David “became” Goliath. How the noble king became a dark shadow of his former self as he tried to bully Uriah into going home to cover his sin.

Everyday, the enemy seeks to repeat that event in each of our lives. Us, the seemingly underdogs in this race of life turning into the most awful villain of our own story. How do we become a bully against our very selves? Simple…In our effort to seek out what we think is best for us we tend to bully the Lord out of our lives. Leaving our souls open for attack. David did that. It was not until the prophet Nathan turned his world upside down with the unforgettable words. YOU ARE THAT MAN! The king then realized how far from the shepherd boy he had come. Stealing the very “sheep” he once was so valiant in protecting. Sometimes it takes an “accident” to wake us up to the terror that sleeps in our own souls. One shameful mistake for us to realize just how far from Him we are.
Pursue Him. He never moved. You did.
