Bright yellow flowers attract various beneficial pollinating insects and are present for several months. Longhead coneflower is closely related to grayhead coneflower. It is shorter than grayhead coneflower and has a longer/taller "cone". The petals are typically yellow but can can be entirely or partially reddish maroon. The best growing conditions will consist of lots of sun and rocky, well-drained soil. It will eventually lose ground to and be outcompeted by larger plants when grown in rich, moist soil.
