Tennis Beats UConn For Second Comeback Win of Weekend

Box Score MANCHESTER, Conn.  — The Rutgers women's tennis team (6-2, 0-0 B1G) edged UConn (5-3), 5-2, for its second comeback win of the weekend. The Scarlet Knights were down, 2-0, before winning five-straight singles matches to claim the dual.

"Our team showed so much toughness today," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "Everyone took care of business on their singles courts after dropping the doubles point. I'm proud of everyone's tenacity this weekend on a tough road trip."
 
Doubles
 
Connecticut picked up 6-3 wins on the first and second courts to claim the doubles point.
 
Chloe Brown and Jackeline Lopez held a 5-3 edge over the Huskies on court No. 3 when play was suspended.
 
Singles
 
The Huskies extended their lead to 2-0 early in singles play by picking up a straight-sets win on the first court.
 
The Scarlet Knights responded, though, equalizing the score with wins on courts No. 4 and No. 6. Minchae Kim got RU on the board with a 6-2, 7-5 victory, and Daira Cardenas quickly added to that with her 6-4, 6-2 win.
 
Mai Nguyen was able to put Rutgers out in front with a tough three-set win on the third court.
 
Naomi Karki then provided the dual-clinching victory on court No. 5. After dropping the first set, 6-7(3), the freshman battled to claim back-to-back 6-2 wins in the second and third sets to claim the victory.
 
A 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory from Amira Badawi rounded out the wins for Rutgers. The senior made her return to the court against the Huskies, playing in her first dual of the season at the No. 2 singles spot.
