Balling Methode

A balanced calcium dosage creates the best conditions for successful reef aquaristics. Hard corals and calcareous red algae depend on the saturation of calcium in the water for optimal growth.

The basis of the Balling method is the addition of calcium chloride 2-hydrate (CaCl2-2H2O) and sodium carbonate/bicarbonate (Na2CO3 / NaHCO3). Coral processing of these salts produces sodium chloride (NaCl) as a "waste product". To avoid an excess of this salt, the Balling method also contains sodium chloride-free sea salt as the third component. All in all, nature-identical dissolved sea salt is being produced again; this maintains the ionic balance in the water.

The three salt solutions are added separately in equal amounts to a well-drained point or to three different points in the water so that no precipitation occurs. This addition increases the salt content in the pool, so the density should always be taken into account and adjusted if necessary by changing the water.
