2 Carbonation Carbonation- the reaction between calcite and weak acids in rain water and acids in groundwater. Rocks that are weathered mainly by carbonation are marble and limestone

3 Hydrolysis Hydrolysis- the chemical reaction of minerals with water Hydrolysis causes more chemical weathering than any other type Feldspar reacts with water Granite can be weathered by hydrolysis

4 Oxidation Oxidation- the reaction of certain metals with oxygen in the air to form compounds called oxides Metals that are affected include iron, copper, and silver Rocks containing hematite and magnetite can be weathered
