  • Description: Erect herbs. Leaves simple, opposite. Flower white or pale purple in simple or much branched racemes. Nutlets ellipsoid.

  • Habitat: Deciduous forests, also in the plains; often cultivated

  • Properties & Uses: Plant is carminative, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, digestive, stimulant, antipyretic, diaphoretic and expectorant.
  • Systems of Medicines: Ayurveda,
  • Traditional Uses:Whole plant is used for the treatment of inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis, colic, cardiac debility, vomiting, bronchitis, asthma, cough, intermittent fever. Seeds are used for the treatment of burning sensation, wounds, sores seminal weakness, diarrhea, chronic dysentery and general debility.
