Cycling: Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) won the Clasica San Sebastian. The Frenchman was able to maintain his sensational Tour form and at the end of a tough race easily drove to victory in front of Bauke Mollema (Trek Segafredo). The duo was able to break away on the final climb of the race. The race was overshadowed by a serious accident involving Mikel Landa (Movistar) and Egan Bernal (Team Sky).
Tired legs after a tiring Tour de France? Apparently not with Julian Alaphilippe, who underlined his current exceptional form today and marked the end of an exciting race. On the final climb, the Frenchman caught the rear wheel of Bauke Mollema, who had previously attacked from the leading group. At first it seemed as if Greg van Avermaet (BMC) could still follow the two, but only a short time later the Belgian had to give up. The cooperation between Alaphilippe and Mollema worked excellently, the pursuers were at odds and the lead quickly grew to almost 20 seconds.
In the final, Mollema, who was visibly marked by the exertion of the race, was no longer able to follow the explosive start of Alaphilippe and so Quick-Step Floors was able to celebrate their 52nd victory of the season. The French champion Anthony Roux (Groupama-FDJ) won the sprint in the chasing group, securing the last remaining podium place.

But there was no real celebration at the finish line, after a bad fall had happened less than 20km before the finish line, which hit Mikel Landa and Egan Bernal badly in particular. Both drivers remained lying on the asphalt for an agonizingly long time and had to be taken to the nearest clinic by ambulance. We currently have no further information on the condition of either of them. We keep our fingers crossed and wish you a speedy recovery!
