Product Description
KALANCHOE BLOSSFELDIANA CALANDIVA
Blossfeldiana Calandiva, a cultivar of the Kalanchoe succulent family, is a very popular "gift plant" because it has beautiful leathery, dark-green leaves and stunning clusters of red/orange/white/purple trumpet-shaped double flowers that last up to 6-8 weeks! Compact and easy to care for, Kalanchoe Calandivas are also available in a wide variety of flower colors (white, yellow, purple, and more).
Kalanchoe Calandiva is the perfect, low-maintenance houseplant for any living space. Our healthy plants come directly from California to you. Upon receiving your plant, simply open the box and position it on a well-ventilated, sunlit windowsill. Water only when the soil feels dry to the touch.
POTTING AND REPOTTING
- To ensure your plant thrives and remains healthy, it's essential to prioritize proper drainage and soil aeration. Select pots made of materials like concrete, terracotta, or ceramic that have drainage holes at the bottom. These holes allow excess water to escape and prevent the roots from sitting in stagnant water, which can lead to root rot. Enhance soil aeration through weekly shovel probing, fostering air pockets that enhance the roots' ability to absorb water, nutrients, and oxygen.
- Consider repotting your plant every 1-3 years, particularly when it outgrows its current pot. The exact time to repot depends on the growth rate of each plant and its pot size. Aim to repot during the growing season using a pot that is only one size larger than the original. Utilize fresh, clean, well-draining soil, and inspect the roots for any signs of damage or disease before repotting.
BLOOMING
Beautiful clusters of double red/orange/white/purple flowers are the most attractive feature of Calandiva, making it a popular flowering houseplant. These showy rose-like flowers have a trumpet shape with tender petals and they last up to 6-8 weeks. Flower buds appear in late autumn/winter and bloom in late winter/early spring. When in full bloom, Calandiva looks like a mini rose bush. Pruning dead flowers will encourage new blooms. Give your plant plenty of bright, indirect light also help to prolong its blooming season.
PROPAGATION
Calandiva can be propagated using stem cuttings or offsets.
- To propagate with stem cutting, use a shaft, clean knife, or pair of scissors to cut off a section of at least 4 inches below a node in a healthy stem. Remove the lower leaves and let the cutting callous in about 4-5 days. After that, dip the end of the cutting in a rooting hormone and plant in a well-drained potting mix soil. Water or mist regularly to keep the soil slightly moist and place the cutting in an airy, bright spot. Avoid direct sunlight. Rooting takes around 3 weeks.
- To propagate using offsets, gently remove the offsets from the parent plant. Each offset should have at least a few leaves. Plant the offsets in moistened fresh, porous soil and provide them with plenty of bright indirect light.

FAQ
Q. Is this plant toxic to humans and pets?
As a Kalanchoe, Calandiva contains cardiac glycosides which are toxic to animals when ingested, causing gastrointestinal irritation. Keep this plant out of reach of curious pets and children and seek medical care immediately if your pets have symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea.
Q. What are some common problems of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana Calandiva Red?
Kalanchoe may develop fungal or bacterial diseases, resulting in black root rot and dropping leaves.
Overwatering or bacterial disease can cause stem rot and wilting leaves.
Powdery mildew is also a common problem, recognizable by a powdery gray or white layer appearing on the leaves and stems.
This plant can also be infected by common pests like mealybugs, spider mites, and scale
Q. How do you pack the plants?
Your plant will be shipped in a sturdy box to ensure its safety. When opening your package, some soil may be loose in the box.
If you live or have an order being shipped to a location with temperatures that reach below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, we strongly recommend purchasing a winter heat pack to ensure your plant(s) arrive safely and without damage caused by winter temperatures.
Q. What should I do after receiving my box?
If your plants arrive potted with dry soil, you can water them right away (with houseplants) or wait for 2-3 days (with succulents). When watering, please give them a good soak and then drain well. If your plants arrive potted with wet soil, you first need to check their leaves and roots' condition. If the plants look healthy, you can leave them in the nursery pots and water only when the soil is completely dry. If the plants look overwatered (yellow, transparent, and soggy leaves), remove the soil from their roots and let them air dry for 1-2 days before re-potting them in a suitable pot.
Q. What to do if there is an issue with my order?
We will gladly offer replacement if your plants arrive broken/ dead. We'll always try our best to accommodate you!
