Weather at the start/finish city of Roquetas de Mar at 2:00 PM, local time: 16C (61F), fair, with the wind from the south-southwest at 10 km/hr (6 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Here's the report from winner Pascal Ackermann's Bora-hansgrohe team.

Tour de France: 2019

Before the race was decided in the expected bunch sprint, a five-man leading group set the scene at the 187km-long one-day race, Clásica de Almería. However, the peloton, led by BORA - hansgrohe, had proceedings well under control, and was able to reel back the escapees 55 km ahead of the finish.

After everything came back together once more, the teams of the sprinters began the jostling for positions ahead of the fast finale. The team from Raubling showed its strength today and put the pressure on over the last few kilometres.

In the finishing straight, the previous year’s victor, Pascal Ackermann, was able to time his sprint to take the win with a brilliant sprint in Roquets de Mar. As he crossed the line, he became the first rider to have won this race back to back.

“I’m really happy to have gotten this win, and I hope to be able to continue the rest of the year in this way. I finished second two times in races here in Spain this year, so it was nice to finally cross the line first. It was a tough race because of the wind. We expected crosswinds, and tried to split the field several times, with several other teams also trying the same. But my teammates did an amazing job today, putting in 100 percent for me, so I’d really like to thank them for that. In the end, we made a little mistake with our lead-out, but I was able to follow the wheel of another rider, and I knew when I had to launch my sprint from behind him, and in the end, it worked out.” - Pascal Ackermann

“There were a lot of very strong sprinters on the start line today, including the likes of Kristoff, Viviani, Coquard, and Cort Nielsen, the winner from three years ago. The guys worked together with Cofidis and Team UAE-Emirates to make sure that the break was never afforded more than 3 minutes, and Felix Großschartner was particularly instrumental here. It was a tough race because of the wind, and we tried to create echelons in the cross-wind sections, but this didn’t work out. We had some bad luck, with Lukas Pöstlberger and Rudi Selig both being involved in crashes, but they were both able to re-join the race. In the finale over the last 10km, the guys rode well together to bring Pascal into a good position. He ended up doing quite a long sprint, and it was close on the line, but ultimately it was enough to take the win. Chapeau to the entire team for this win.” – Jens Zemke & Jean-Pierre Heynderickx, Sports Directors
