Description
A fantastic vista point at an altitude of 2,300m (7,545 ft) in the Brenta Dolomites at the base of Cima Presanella (3,558m / 11,673 ft), the highest peak in the Trentino region. This beautiful, eagle’s nest of a lodge is surrounded by glacial moraine, water and waterfalls, which make for unforgettable sunrises and sunsets. The lodge is open from June to September.

From the highway to Madonna di Campiglio (SS 239), at switchback no. 4 (marked) between Pinzolo and S. Antonio di Mavignola, take the road to Val Nambrone (direction of Rifugio G. Segantini). After about 4 km (2.5 mi), at the bridge past Ristorante Nambrone, continue on for about 8 km (5 mi) until a fork in the road to the left (direction Rifugio G. Segantini), which, after a few curves on a dirt road, will take you to a clearing where you can park at Malga Vallina d'Amola at an altitude of 2,020m (6,627 ft). The bridge here is closed to traffic. Now take trail no. 211 (ESC) for a 1.25-hour easy hike to the lodge. Alternatively, you can continue to the right at the fork in the road mentioned above and continue on by car to Rifugio Cornisello (2,120 m / 6,955 ft). Park here and continue on foot along trail no. 216 (ESC). You will get to Rifugio Segantini in about 1 hour 30/40' by way of Pass de l’Om.

The area around the lodge is a sort of open-air photography lab in which, within the space of a few hundred meters, you can take shots of waterways, ponds, waterfalls, moraine, majestic peaks, and wide-open landscapes. Mornings and evenings provide some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets anywhere in the Brenta Dolomites. This spot is also ideal for night photography due to the absence of light pollution and vast swath of sky that can be seen above the lodge.
Time
Keep in mind that the lodge faces the sun throughout the morning hours and until mid-afternoon, so the best times to take shots of the Brenta Dolomites are morning (dawn) and evening (dusk). For waterways, waterfalls, and other water features, just take care to avoid direct light, which can burn out the highlights.
