Large, pale lavender flowers. 2½ft (70cm)

With their large and splendid flowers on upright stems and with their incurved petals, these fine plants could easily be mistaken for the finest exhibition incurved Chrysanthemums!

Sorry, but there's no place we could list the annual Asters that would please everyone - put it under Aster and some would complain they mix it up with the perennial Asters; list it here and others will complain that they've never heard of Callistephus - we know we can't win! However, the flower itself needs no introduction and although it can be had in bloom from June to October (even longer if you grow some in the cold greenhouse - Asters make excellent pot plants), it is a flower for late summer that is supreme, bringing colour in plenty to the garden when the evenings are drawing in and other plants are past their best. And we don't have to tell you that they make excellent cut flowers.

    Germination Instructions

Sow indoors in spring. Sow directly from April. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 16-18°C. Germination takes 1-2 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out from May. Directly, sow 6mm deep in drills 30cm apart in prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Thin as required.

    Growing Instructions

Prefers a rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Do not allow soil to dry out, but also do not over-water. Prone to aphids, treat as desired.

    Cultivation Instructions
