Attractive to pollinatorsPerennial that will flower in its first year from sowing
This is a beautiful branching plant for the border, flowering freely the first year from seed, with sweetly-scented flowers, 2ins or more across, that open golden-yellow then turn red. The encyclopaedia tells us these are vespertine - to save you looking that up, it just means opening in the evening - "Vespertine Primrose" doesn't sound the same, does it? 4ft (1.2m)

    Germination Instructions

Sow indoors in late winter-spring. Sow directly in spring after danger of frost has passed. Indoors, surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Place in a propagator or pop in a clear plastic bag to maintain humidity. Ideal temp. 18-20°C. Germination takes 2-3 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

    Growing Instructions

Prefers any ordinary, well-drained soil in full sun. Will tolerate partial sun. Easy to care for.

    Cultivation Instructions

Will self-seed freely. Will spread by rhizomes. Cut back to ground level in late autumn after flowering ceases. Can be grown as an annual.
