Tropical Storm Michael: Flooding keeps many Henderson County roads closed

ASHEVILLE – Several roads in Western North North were closed Thursday evening because of flooding from Tropical Storm Michael, with those in Henderson County County hardest hit.

About a dozen road closures due to the storm remained at 8 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. N.C. 225 (Greenville Highway) near U.S. 176 was the most major route still closed.

In Polk County, closures included Howard Gap and Holbert Cove roads.

Several roads in Henderson County were expected to reopen by noon Friday. Other roads closed in the county include:

  • Balfour Road near Hendersonville Road
  • Big Willow Road near Hendersonville Road
  • Howard Gap Road near Hendersonville Road
  • Banner Farm Road is closed in both directions
