About the Integra DRX-8.4

Athena H.

First-class home theater from Integra

Integra pulled out all the stops to ensure the DRX-8.4 is a flagship-worthy receiver. With an all-new reference symmetric Class AB amplifier circuit, heavy-duty fanned heatsinks, and two high-performance ESS SABRE DACs, this receiver is set to deliver audiophile sound.

Video gets top-notch treatment, too. The receiver's HDMI connections accept 8K Ultra HD signals, as well as content encoded with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. It's a centerpiece for your whole home audio and video system, too, with three-zone wired capabilities, more wireless zones with the addition of a Sonos Port and other Sonos gear, and custom integration with the addition of third-party equipment.

Ideal for Dolby Atmos® or a multi-zone sound system

The Integra DRX-8.4 can power up to 11 speakers at the same time. Use all 11 channels in a 7.2.4 or 9.2.2 Dolby Atmos or DTS:X® system. Or, go with a more conventional surround sound setup, and repurpose the extra channels for stereo sound in up to two additional zones.

At 150 watts per channel (2-channels driven), the DRX-8.4's high-powered amplifier will drive your speakers with precision and impact. If you find yourself with unused surround channels, you can repurpose them to bi-amp a compatible center speaker and a pair of compatible front right and left speakers for a powerful front soundstage.

Add bass your way

New to Integra is the addition of four line-level subwoofer outputs for powered subs on the DRX-8.4. You can even reassign two speaker output channels to drive a pair of passive subwoofers.

Precise room calibration

Dirac Live® is one of the finest room correction systems in the industry, and it comes standard on the '8.4. Run the Dirac software to take precise sound measurements in your room. After the software completes the test, it then creates a personalized EQ correction curve for all your speakers, made to overcome your room's specific acoustic characteristics. And, you can add the optional Dirac Live Bass Control to calibrate your subwoofers for the lowest, cleanest bass possible.

Special treatment for your Klipsch speakers

The '8.4 is designed to optimize Klipsch speakers. Select your specific speaker models for each channel in the setup menu, and the Speaker Combo mode automatically selects the correct crossover settings for the best performance. Your Klipsch speakers have never sounded better!

Advanced video processing for movies and more

Integra equipped the DRX-8.4 with the latest video technology. All six of its rear-panel HDMI inputs support 8K and 4K video content — perfect for high-quality sources like a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player, an Apple TV, or your next-gen gaming system. (The front-panel HDMI input supports 4K/60 video content.)

Many music options

Stream music with Bluetooth or play Wi-Fi networked sources like Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, DTS Play-Fi, and Spotify® Connect. Use the optical or coaxial digital inputs to connect a CD player, or break out your vinyl collection and connect your turntable to the dedicated phono input. For uncompromising sound quality, you can play high-resolution music files from a USB stick or a networked computer.

Integrate Sonos with your system

This "Works with Sonos" certified receiver lets you tie your home theater into a whole-house audio system when you add a Sonos Port. Control the audio on your receiver using the Sonos app on your mobile device, PC, or Mac® for a whole-home Sonos experience. The app will even turn on the DRX-8.4 and select the correct input.

High Performance ESS Sabre DACs: The Integra DRX-8.4 utilizes audiophile quality ESS Sabre DACs (digital-to-analog converters) to expertly convert and decode audio signals for exceptional sound reproduction. There are two precision 32-bit/768kHz ESS Sabre ES9026PRO HyperStream II DACs installed in the DRX-8.4 that handle digital to analog audio conversion. This high performance 32-bit audio DAC architecture provides unprecedented dynamic range with ultra-low distortion.

    • Upsampling: By increasing the sampling frequency of 2ch PCM audio by a factor of 2 or 4, you can achieve higher quality sound reproduction. The setting can be separately set to each input selector. This can be set when the sampling frequency is between 44.1 kHz and 96 kHz. This function only works in the Direct and Stereo listening modes.
    • Digital Filter: You can switch the type of digital filter in the audio DAC. You can choose "Slow" (gives the sound a soft and fluid feel), "Sharp" (gives the sound more structure and firmer feel) or "Auto" (auto). The setting can be separately set for each source input. The Digital Filter only can be set when the sampling frequency is 44.1kHz or more.

Auto Room Correction & Speaker Calibration: The Integra DRX-8.4 offers auto room correction & speaker calibration using AccuEQ with AccuReflex or DIRAC Live (cannot use both). Both measurement methods use the supplied speaker setup microphone (keep the listening room as quiet as possible during measurement). Each speaker connected to the AV receiver will output a test tone at a high volume during measurement. If you have a powered sub connected, make sure it turned on and the volume set to more than half. Calibration takes about 20 minutes to be completed.

    • AccuEQ With AccuReflex: AccuEQ streamlines the initial setup of your home theater setup and ensures the Integra AV receiver and speakers are properly calibrated for the best performance in your listening space. AccuEQ calculates speaker distance from the listening position, adjusts speaker sound pressure level, and sets the speaker crossover. The latter selects the correct point to roll off low-frequency sound to the subwoofer. The result is clear and balanced full-spectrum surround sound. AccuEQ also incorporates AccuReflex technology to align the phase of up-firing "height" speakers with the sound coming directly from your other speakers. Any delay is resolved so that everything arrives at your ears at the same time. The result is cohesive reproduction of object-based soundtracks.
    • DIRAC Live: DIRAC Live is a state-of-the-art digital room correcting technology that improves overall audio performance for enhanced musical staging, clarity, dialog, and deeper bass. Dirac Live Room Correction automatically calibrates sound in your room using the free Integra Control App (for Apple iOS & Android OS), plus the included microphone; or the Dirac Live desktop or laptop application and a 3rd party USB mic (not included). It analyzes your audio system and listening environment by examining acoustic data measured by the microphone and detecting deficiencies. It corrects both the timing and amplitude aspects of sound colorations using a mixed-phase correction filter throughout the listening area, not just a particular zone. Dirac Live will unlock your loudspeaker system's full potential in any listening space and delivers a uniquely pristine listening experience.

Notes: You can choose to bypass DIRAC Live and AccuEQ so you can manually set the distance, crossover, EQ, and level of each speaker.

Compatible Digital Audio Formats: The AV receiver supports the following stereo & multichannel digital audio formats through its HDMI jacks and optical/coax digital inputs.

Digital Audio Connector Audio Signal Type Audio Signal Format
HDMI (7 Inputs/3 Outputs) Bitstream Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital
DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, DTS Express, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS
     PCM 2ch to 8ch (32-192kHz, 16/20/24-bit)
    DSD 2ch (2.8/5.6MHz, 1-bit)
Optical (3 Inputs)/Coaxial (2 Inputs) Bitstream Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS ES, DTS 96/24
    PCM 2ch to 6ch, (32-96kHz, 16/20/24-bit)

Immersive Surround Sound: The Integra DRX-8.4 AV receiver goes beyond regular surround with the latest immersive surround sound formats from Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and AURO-3D. The DRX-8.4 offers 11-channels of amplification with support for up to 11.4 channel processing, allowing you to configure an advanced multi-channel speaker system.

    • Dolby Atmos & DTS:X: The Integra DRX-8.4 has the processing power to run a more enveloping 7ch, 9ch, or 11ch Dolby Atmos or DTS:X layout using a 5.4.2, 5.4.4, 7.4.2, 7.4.4, or 9.4.2 speaker configuration with ceiling mounted or height/elevation speakers (sold separately). Dolby Atmos and DTS:X allow engineers to map sound anywhere in 3D space with effects moving from speaker to speaker all around the room and wrapping your audience in the latest films and games. You can also enjoy your 3D speaker layout with classic titles thanks to Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X which find overhead cues in legacy soundtracks and upmix for awesome spatial realism. In addition, when playing any Dolby or DTS audio soundtrack, engaging Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer or DTS Virtual:X enables a more immersive listening experience, creating a virtual surround and height effect from traditional speaker layouts without employing additional surround or height speakers.
    • AURO-3D: The Integra AV receiver is equipped with an Auro-3D decoder. With Auro-3D, Front Height, Surround Height and Top Surround are added to a conventional 5.1-channel system to achieve a natural and realistic soundfield that is three-dimensional and fully immersive. You will be able to fully enjoy Auro-3D playback if you properly place the speakers for Auro-3D. Auro-3D does not support a Dolby Atmos configuration using Top Front, Top Middle, Top Rear, or any Dolby Atmos Enabled speakers. But it is possible to support both an Auro-3D and Dolby Atmos by adding Front Height and Rear Height speakers to a 5.1 configuration. For an optimum Auro-3D experience Surround Height speakers are strongly recommended.

Note: AURO-3D will require an available firmware update.

IMAX Enhanced Technology: Get the most premium at-home entertainment experience with IMAX Enhanced; the latest technology program from IMAX that sets a new standard for image, sound, scale and content quality. This new certification and licensing program combines IMAX digitally re-mastered 4K HDR content and DTS audio technologies to offer a new level of quality in immersive sight and sound experiences in the home. IMAX Enhanced lets you experience premium content digitally remastered by IMAX, so you can watch the highest-quality 4K movies with immersive audio delivered by DTS. Not only will IMAX Enhanced content look and sound amazing, but other audio/video content will also look and sound great too.

    • Remastered 4K/HDR Video: It utilizes a sophisticated, advanced algorithm designed to produce the highest-quality, sharpest 4K HDR images. This advanced process accurately reduces noise and grain under the filmmaker's guidance to best optimize the content for a much higher quality, higher brightness 4K HDR display format. Select IMAX Enhanced titles that were shot with IMAX cameras or specially formatted for IMAX theaters will also include an expanded aspect ratio for the film's home release to show you more picture on your TV. IMAX Enhanced certified TVs must be at least 65" with support for HDR10 and dynamic, as well as specific calibration, resolution, color, brightness, contrast, and scale of image capabilities.
    • Remastered DTS:X Audio: IMAX and DTS will also partner with award-winning Hollywood sound mixers to use a special variant of its DTS:X codec technology integrated in home audio equipment to deliver an IMAX signature sound experience that is dynamic, immersive, theatrical, and powerful. IMAX Enhanced supports both 5.1 and 11.1 formats, but the recommended speaker layout for an IMAX Enhanced system is 7.2.4 with seven horizontal speakers, two subwoofers and four height speakers; 5.1.4 is the minimum layout for IMAX Enhanced. However, due to various constraints you may opt to install only a 5.1ch speaker system. In such cases, DTS Virtual:X is required to properly render and remap audio to the available speakers.
    • Available IMAX Content: IMAX is working with its global studio and other content partners to build a steady stream of IMAX Enhanced versions of movies and other programming using the newest, proprietary post-production process developed by IMAX. IMAX will be announcing and releasing IMAX Enhanced versions of a wide range of films both for 4K/HDR streaming and Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs.

THX Certified Select: THX Certified Select guarantees the same high-volume sound you experience at a commercial theater in your home. To gain certification, amplifiers must pass the industry's most severe bench-tests covering every aspect of audio performance to satisfy THX requirements. THX spends 40-60 hours testing over 2000 data points ensuring that the receiver is capable of meeting rigorous audio and video performance standards for reference level, distortion-free playback. THX delivers superior sound quality for movie, music, and gaming soundtracks through the use of the following advanced technologies and listening modes.

    • ASA (Advanced Speaker Array): ASA is a technology patented by THX to provide a broad surround sound experience by adjusting the side and back surround speaker sounds respectively. When installing the surround back speakers, first select the distance between the two surround back speakers in the THX Audio settings. This setting optimizes the surround sound environment.
    • Adaptive Decorrelation: In a movie theater, a large number of surround speakers help create an enveloping surround sound experience. If a home theater only has two sidewall surround speakers, the surround speakers may sound similar to headphones lacking spaciousness and envelopment. Surround sounds will also collapse toward the closet speaker as you move away from the middle seating position. Adaptive Decorrelation slightly changes one surround channel's time and phase relationship with respect to the other surround experience as in a movie theater using only two rear speakers.
    • RE-EQ & Timbre Matching: Many movie soundtracks are mixed in studios for playback in large cinema auditoriums with an array of speakers. When played on home systems, they may appear abrasive and edgy. Re-EQ establishes a more accurate tonal balance when enjoying movies in your home. Your ears hear different tonal qualities in sounds coming from different directions. Timbre Matching restores the frequency balance between your front and surround speakers ensuring seamless and smooth panning between the front to back of the room.
    • Boundary Gain Compensation (BGC) & THX Loudness Plus: Sitting near a wall may result in distorted bass response. BGC corrects the way low frequency sound is perceived when seated near a wall. This results in a more accurate bass response. THX Loudness Plus is a volume control technology that automatically adjusts the front-to-back speaker level relationship as you turn the volume down. With THX Loudness Plus home theater audiences can now experience surround sound at any volume level.
    • Listening Modes: Choose between 4 THX Listening Modes - THX Cinema, THX Game, THX Music, and THX Surround EX. THX Cinema recreates the ambiance of the movie theater by positioning the 5.1, 7.1and immersive mixes to submerse you in the movie's soundtrack. THX Game distributes the sound effects and dialogue generated by the game engine by placing the audio from a 5.1, 7.1 or immersive mix to the appropriate "action" location - creating 360-degree gaming experience. THX Music emulates the original studio environment for the 5.1, 7.1 or immersive mix for an accurate and increased sense of spaciousness and localization - placing you directly in the recording session. THX Surround EX decodes the third surround channel from the traditional two surround channels to create a more immersive entertainment experience.
Note: THX Certified Select is suitable for medium sized rooms, up to 2,000 cubic feet in size, with a 10-12 foot viewing distance from the screen.

DSP Listening Modes: DSP Listening Modes, combined with Dolby Digital & DTS processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. You can choose from the following -

    • Orchestra: Suitable for classical or operatic music. This mode emphasizes the surround channels in order to widen the sound image, and simulates the natural reverberation of a large hall.
    • Studio-Mix: Suitable for rock or pop music. Listening to music in this mode creates a lively sound field with a powerful acoustic image, like being at a club or rock concert.
    • TV Logic: Suitable for TV shows produced in a TV studio. This mode enhances the surround effects to the entire sound to give clarity to voices and create a realistic acoustic image.
    • Unplugged: Suitable for acoustic instruments, vocals and jazz. This mode emphasizes the front stereo image, giving the impression of being right in front of the stage.
    • Multichannel (Multich)/Game: Multichannel mode is suitable for playing sources recorded in multichannel PCM. The preamplifier also offers four different Gaming modes - RPG, Action, Rock, and Sports.
    • Stereo/All Channel Stereo (AllCh Stereo): In Stereo mode, sound is output from the front left and right speakers and subwoofer. In All Channel Stereo Mode, stereo sound is output from all speakers - ideal for background music.
    • Mono/Full Mono: In Mono mode, when the input signal is analog or PCM, the left and right front speakers output the sound in monaural. In Full Mono mode, all speakers output the same sound in mono, so the sound you hear is the same regardless of where you are within the listening room.
    • Theater-Dimensional (T-D): In this mode, you can enjoy a virtual playback of multichannel surround sound even with only two or three speakers. This works by controlling how sounds reach the listener's left and right ears.

Sound Quality Modes: The Integra DRX-8.4 offers a variety of sound quality modes that improves audio playback when listening to either analog, digital, or wireless sources.

    • Direct & Pure Audio Mode: The Direct listening mode can be selected for all input signals. In this mode, processing that affects sound quality is shut down, and sound closer to the original is reproduced. The Pure Audio mode takes it one step further by also turning off the display to provide even purer sound. The sound is reproduced with the soundfield based on the number of channels in the input signal. For example, a 2ch signal is output only from the front speakers. Note that other sound adjustments are not available when this mode is selected.
    • Cinema Dedicated Mode: Cinema Dedicated Mode can improve home theater sound quality by limiting the activity of digital circuits and thereby suppressing the noise that is generated by them. You can turn-on Cinema Dedicated Mode to temporarily stop communication of Network, Bluetooth, and USB circuitry. There is also a Cinema Dedicated Net Off Mode which turns off the power for some of the AV receiver's digital circuits for better sound quality from Network and Bluetooth audio source.

Audio Enhancements: The Integra DRX-8.4 receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.

    • CinemaFilter: The CinemaFilter softens overly bright movie soundtracks. Movie soundtracks are typically mixed for a large theater (relative to your home theater) with lots of soft seats and thick curtains on the walls. Home theater settings often lack these high frequency absorbing wall treatments, making the soundtrack sound too bright. CinemaFilter accounts for this and for many movies sounds more natural at home.
    • Music Optimizer: The Music Optimizer function enhances the sound quality of compressed music files. The Music Optimizer function only works with PCM digital audio input signals with a sampling rate below 48kHz, analog input signals, and Bluetooth audio.
    • Late Night Feature: The Late Night feature limits the dynamic range of Dolby Digital recordings. Limiting the dynamic range makes it easier to find a volume that ensures the quiet sounds are not too quiet and the loud sounds are not too loud for night time listening. This allows you to comfortably listen to without the need to constantly adjust the volume to keep from waking family/neighbors. The choices are: Off, Low, and High. This feature only works with Dolby Digital Encoded software and the depth of the feature will vary based on the individual software package.
    • Stereo Assign Mode: Stereo Assign Mode switches playback from Front to Height 1, Height 2, Surround, or Surround Back speakers (depending on your layout). It's ideal for ambient background listening.

Dialog Improvements: The receiver offers a variety of dialog enhancements that make it easier to hear dialog and vocal when listening to movie and music soundtracks. The Vocal mode emphasizes movie dialog and music vocals, so you can hear them more easily amongst the movie effects and musical instruments. The Vocal mode can be set from 1 (low) to 5 (high). Dialog Control allows you to boost the dialog in a DTS:X soundtrack to make dialog more intelligible in noisy environments. Center Spread expands the center channel signal to left and right front speakers to create a wider frontal audio image for the listener, when in Dolby Surround mode.

Bass Management: The Integra AV receiver offers Double Bass and Tone Control to get the most bass impact out of your system. You can activate the Double Bass function in order to boost bass output even more by feeding bass sounds to the front left/right speakers, center-channel, and powered subwoofer. In addition, you can independently adjust the Bass (20Hz) and Treble (20kHz) for all channels of the receiver from -10 to +10 dB.

Klipsch Optimize Mode: Klipsch and Integra teamed up to implement the precise crossover values for specific new Klipsch speakers, so you can easily and seamlessly integrate Klipsch Reference and Reference Premiere speakers with the Integra DRX-8.4 receiver. Simply select the model of speaker for each channel, and the optimized crossover setting will be automatically applied.

Volume & Level Setup: The Integra AV receiver provides the following volume & level settings.

    • Maximum Volume: Use this feature to set the receiver's maximum volume level for the Main Zone, Zone 2, and Zone 3. This feature is useful to avoid turning the volume too loud by mistake. You can set the Max Volume from 50 to 99, or Off (disabled).
    • Power On Volume: Use this feature to set the volume level when the power is turned on in the Main Zone, Zone 2, and Zone 3. You can choose between Last (same as the volume when the unit was turned off), Min, or 0.5 to 99.5, or Max.
    • My Input Volume: You can set specific source inputs to turn on at a specific volume level when you switch to that particular source. Choose from Last, Min, 0.5 to 81.5, or Max.
    • Mute Level: Set the volume lowered from the listening volume when "Mute" is selected. Choose from 0, -40dB, or -20 dB.
    • Headphone Level: With this setting, you can specify the headphone volume (-12 to +12dB) relative to the main volume. This is useful if there's a volume difference between your speakers and your headphones.

eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel): This feature of the AV receiver's main HDMI monitor output allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television. eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) will support uncompressed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, & DTS HD Master Audio - where as the previous ARC (Audio Return Channel) was limited to only Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, DTS HD, and PCM.

Note: Supported content will be dependent on whether your TV features a HDMI eARC or ARC jack.

Balanced & Unbalanced Connectivity: The Integra DRX-8.4 includes both balanced XLR and unbalanced analog audio inputs and outputs, as well as a Phono MM input and front-panel 1/4" headphone jack. Balanced XLR connectivity enables high-quality signal transmission with reduced degradation of sound quality due to external noise.

    • Stereo XLR & RCA Inputs: In addition to four standard unbalanced line-level stereo RCA inputs, the Integra DRX-8.4 features a balanced stereo XLR input for higher quality analog audio gear.
    • 11.4ch Preouts: The DRX-8.4 is equipped with 11.4ch pre-outs that consist of a combination of balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA stereo jacks. The front-panel HDMI 2.0 input features 9Gbps bandwidth and supports up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) video @ 60 framers per second. The receiver will also pass 1080p/i, 720p, and 480p/ video signals over HDMI.
    • HDCP 2.3 Compliant: All of the AV receiver's rear-panel HDMI inputs and outputs support HDCP 2.3, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 4K/HDR video transmission. The front-panel HDMI input is HDCP 2.2 compliant.
    • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: The rear-panel HDMI inputs and monitor outputs support RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, and YCbCr 4:2:0 color subsampling (pixel depth and frame rate will vary). With 4:4:4 color subsampling, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate; resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. The front-panel HDMI input is limited to 4:2:0.
    • Wide Color Gamut (BT.2020): The BT.2020 color standard delivers a much wider color gamut and represents about 75% of the total visual color spectrum, while the current Rec. 709 color standard selected as the color space for HDTVs and early generation 4K Ultra HDTVs covers only 35% of the total visual color spectrum.

Note: You can make the HDMI 1 input exclusively for audio to improve sound quality t(here will be no video output from the HDM 1 input).

Triple HDMI Outputs: The AV receiver is equipped with a total of three HDMI outputs. The Main HDMI output and HDMI Sub output are in parallel and distribute the same HDMI input signal (up to 8K) simultaneously to two separate displays, while the Zone 2 HDMI output is discrete and allows you to play a different HDMI audio/video source (up to 4K) in another zone (Zone 2). All seven HDMI inputs are supported by all three HDMI outputs (Main, Monitor 2, and Zone 2). The receiver's composite and component video inputs can only be output via the Main HDMI output (not supported by the Monitor 2 and Zone HDMI outputs).

    • HDMI Video Upscaling (up to 4K/8K): The Integra AV receiver's video processor provides upscaling of 1080p HDMI video sources to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) when connected to a 4K compatible TV; as well as upscaling of 4K HDMI video sources to 8K/60Hz (7680 x 4320 pixels) when the receiver is connected to an 8K TV. HDMI Video upscaling is only supported by the AV receiver's main HDMI output (not the HDMI Sub or Zone 2 outputs).
    • Analog Video Inputs w/ HDMI Conversion: The receiver features two composite video inputs and one component video input which support 480i video signals only (the component video input is not capable of high-definition video). All analog video input signals are converted to digital and sent via HDMI to your TV at 480i (no upscaling). Only the receiver's main HDMI monitor output supports analog-to-HDMI video conversion (the receiver's HDMI Sub and Zone 2 outputs do not support this feature).

HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR (High Dynamic Range) video provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. This receiver supports two HDR formats - HDR10, HDR10+ Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), & Dolby Vision.

    • HDR10: HDR10 is an open standard and currently the most popular HDR format on the market. It uses static metadata at the start of a movie to tell the receiver and your TV that the video content is encoded using HDR.
    • HDR10+: HDR10+ is a new open standard that leverages dynamic metadata to produce enhanced contrast and colors on an expanded range of televisions. HDR10+ incorporates dynamic metadata that allows the adjustment of brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis. By applying individualized tone mapping to each scene, HDR10+ delivers an incredible viewing experience. The picture quality offers an enhanced visual experience with more detailed expressions, brighter shadow areas and more accurate color renderings that stay true to the creator's original intent.
    • Hybrid-Log Gamma: HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) is primarily designed for live video feed and over-the-air broadcasts. It uses no pre-encoded metadata and is backwards compatible with SDR. HLG's native compatibility allows much of today's existing SDR infrastructure to be re-used for HDR in the future.
    • Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata and HLG which uses no metadata, Dolby Vision uses dynamic metadata technology which sets individual color and brightness levels for each and every scene. Dolby works directly with filmmakers at major Hollywood studios to create superior HDR video masters of blockbuster movies.

Enhanced Gaming: 4K/120Hz HDR pass-through enables ultra-fast motion UHD images to be crisp and razor-sharp; and sports, action movies, and high-performance gaming benefit significantly. Other HDMI 2.1 enhancements for gamers include ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) to optimize latency from source to screen; VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) which eliminates lag, stutter, and frame-tearing for fluid gameplay; QMS (Quick Media Switching) which eliminates blackout periods; plus QFT (Quick Frame Transport) which limits lag for a smoother video gaming experience.

    • Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM): The receiver will enter ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) when it detects a gaming signal from a compatible device (such as a Xbox One) and allows for a smooth, lag-free gaming experience.
    • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR): Support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) allows the TV to adapt to certain Game console's frame rate. This helps to reduce or eliminate lag, stutter and frame tearing for more fluid and better detailed gameplay.
    • Quick Media Switching (QMS): Quick Media Switching (QMS) eliminates the delay that can result in blank screens before content is displayed. QMS eliminate the blackout period when all devices in the HDMI connection chain change video modes. As long as the resolution remains the same and only the frame rate changes, QMS will smoothly switch between frame rates.
    • Quick Frame Transport (QFT): Quick Frame Transport (QFT) transmits each frame at a higher rate to decrease "display latency", which is the amount of time between a frame being ready for transmission in the GPU and that frame being completely displayed. Enjoy reduced latency for smoother, tear-free entertainment experience.

Note: The front-panel HDMI input and rear-panel Zone 2 HDMI output do not support 4K/120Hz or the other enhanced gaming features.

Other HDMI Features: The DRX-8.4 AV receiver's HDMI connectivity also offers 3D video pass-through, Deep Color & x.v. Color support, as well as an auto LipSync function.

    • Deep Color & x.v.Color Support: The AV receiver supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture
    • 3D-Ready: All HDMI jacks will accept 3D video from your 3D-ready Blu-ray player and output the video signal in 3D to your 3D-ready flat-panel television.
    • AV Sync: The AV Sync feature can automatically synchronize HDMI audio and video (for any HDMI jack) that has gotten out of sync due to the complex digital video processing being performed by your HDMI-compatible TV. With AV Sync, the audio delay required to synchronize the audio and video is calculated and applied automatically by the AV receiver. You can also manually correct the audio delay using AV Sync.

HDMI Through: When enabling the HDMI Through function, regardless of whether the AV receiver is "On" or in "Standby", both audio/video streams from an HDMI input will be output to your television, via the receiver HDMI monitor output. You can select between three HDMI Through modes.

    • Auto: Detects the signal and automatically selects the input sources.
    • Source: Selects the HDMI input source for which the HDMI Through function in enabled.
    • Last: The HDMI Through function is activated on the input source selected at the time of setting the AV receiver to the "standby" mode.

Video Select: It is possible to play audio and video from different sources simultaneously. For example, you can play audio via Bluetooth and video from your Blu-ray player. This function is only effective when an input with audio only (Network, Bluetooth, or Tuner) has been selected initially.

When you access the Roon software or remote app, it will display your complete audio library together with its metadata and artwork along with the available Integra receiver and other Roon enabled devices. Simply select the music you wish to play and the Integra receiver or Roon device in which you want to hear it on.

    • To use Roon you will need a Roon Server running on the same network as the Integra receiver. The Roon Server is media software that runs on your computer, NAS, or component (like Nucleus or Nucleus Plus - sold separately), located on the network within your home.
    • Make sure your Integra product has the latest firmware/software update installed.
    AirPlay/Bluetooth/USB Integration

AirPlay 2: AirPlay 2 is an advanced and easy-to-use wireless multiroom audio platform for iTunes, Apple Music, and other compatible Apple iOS apps. With AirPlay 2 you can play any sound from your Apple iOS device (running iOS 11.4 or later) or Mac computer (running OS X 10.13.2) on the Integra receiver and other compatible AirPlay 2 speakers throughout your home. You can choose to play audio in one room, play the same audio in grouped rooms, or play the same audio in every room (you can control and group directly from Apple's Music App and Home app on your Apple iOS device). If you are an Apple Music subscriber, you can even play different music in different rooms (you can control and group directly from Apple's Music App and Home app on your Apple iOS device). You will also be able to ask Siri-enabled devices (like your Apple iPhone, iPad, or Watch) to control playback of your Apple Music on the Integra receiver. In addition, with AirPlay 2 you get to see song/artist information and album art via the receiver's on-screen menu (via HDMI). You can even watch videos and movies from YouTube and Netflix on your compatible Apple iOS device or Mac computer with perfectly synced audio on the Integra receiver.

Built-in Bluetooth: The Integra DRX-8.4 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless communication between Bluetooth-enabled audio source devices and headphones. The DRX-8.4 can act as a Bluetooth receiver in order to wirelessly stream music from an audio device, or a Bluetooth transmitter in order to wirelessly stream music to a set of BT-enabled headphones. The receiver's Bluetooth wireless range is approximately 48'.

    • Bluetooth Receiver Mode: In BT Receiver mode, you'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth-enabled source device (such as your smartphone, tablet, computer, or laptop) to the Integra receiver. The receiver supports Bluetooth's standard SBC codec, as well as Apple's AAC codec. You can use the receiver's IR remote control to operate basic playback functions, like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track. Advanced music browsing will still need to be handled from your Bluetooth-enabled device. The receiver will also display song/artist information on its front-panel LCD and through its on-screen on your HDMI-connected TV (Album Art is not supported). Up to eight Bluetooth source devices can be remembered by the DRX-8.4, so family members as well as friends can enjoy their favorite tracks (only one device can be used at a time). The receiver can even be setup to automatically re-connect with previously paired devices, as well as turn on automatically when you start streaming audio from a Bluetooth source device.
    • Bluetooth Transmitter Mode: The Integra DRX-8.4 can also act as a Bluetooth transmitter and stream its non-Bluetooth audio sources (HDMI, DLNA, USB, Analog, Optical/Coax Digital, & AM/FM tuner) out to most any Bluetooth-enabled headphone set via SBC, or aptX, or aptX-HD (24-bit). You can even have the same source playing from the main speakers and a Bluetooth headphone simultaneously (with little noticeable delay). Volume control of your Bluetooth headphones will be controlled via the Bluetooth device and not the receiver. Up to eight headphones can be paired with the receiver, but only one set of headphones can be connected and used at a time.

    Notes:

    • You cannot use the Bluetooth Transmitter and Receiver modes simultaneously. The Bluetooth Transmitter mode is not available when the receiver's current source input is set to Bluetooth and vice-versa; Bluetooth Receiver mode is not available when the Bluetooth setting "Transmitter" is set to ON.
    • Chromecast built-in, Amazon Alexa, AirPlay 2, and DTS Play-Fi sources can be transmitted via Bluetooth.
    • Selecting a Bluetooth input source in any Zone will terminate the connection between the Integra receiver and Bluetooth headphones.

USB Mass Storage Class: This AV receiver is equipped with a rear-panel USB (type-A) port that allows you to enjoy a variety of music files from a USB mass storage class memory device, such as USB thumbdrive or portable digital audio player. The unit will recognize USB MSC devices formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 with up to 20,000 music files. You can control basic playback functions of your music library from the included remote control and receiver's on-screen menu; such as Folder/File Select, Play/Pause, Stop, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the AV receiver's USB port (5V/1A); even in standby mode. Compatible music files include -

    • Hi-Res Music Files: FLAC (8/16/24-bit; 44.1-192kHz), WAV (8/16/24-bit; 44.1-192kHz), LPCM (16-bit; 44.1-48kHz), AIFF (8/16/24-bit; 44.1-192kHz), ALAC (16/24-bit; 44.1-192kHz), DSD (1-bit; 2.8/5.6/11.2MHz)
    • Low-Res Music Files: MP3 (8-320kbps; 44.1-48kHz), WMA (5-320kbps; 44.1-48kHz), AAC (8-320kbps; 44.1-96kHz)
Notes: The receiver's USB port does not support Apple iOS and Android devices, USB hubs and card-readers, computers and laptops, or any MP3 player containing music files that are managed with special hardware.
    Multiroom Audio/Video Playback

Zone 2 HDMI Output: The Integra DRX-8.4provides a Zone 2 HDMI output, so two different HDMI audio/video feeds can be sent to two different displays at the same time directly from any of the receiver's HDMI input sources. When displaying the same video source from both HDMI outputs, the Main HDMI output and Zone 2 HDMI output can both support up to 4K/60Hz (40Gbps) with 2ch PCM audio. If displaying a different video source from the main HDMI output and Zone 2 HDMI out, then the Main HDMI output can support up to 8K/60Hz (40Gbps) with multichannel audio, while the Zone 2 HDMI output is limited to 4K/60Hz (18Gbps) and 2ch PCM.

    • Compatible Sources: HDMI connected input sources only (up to 4K/60Hz, 2ch PCM).
    • Incompatible Sources: Analog audio/video, Tuner, USB, Bluetooth, Network, and Optical/Coaxial Digital audio sources

Zone 2 Speaker-Level Outputs: By using the Zone 2 speaker-level outputs on the DRX-8.4, you can directly connect a secondary pair of speakers in another room of your home, allowing you to listen to 5.4.4ch or 7.4.2ch surround sound in your main room and play a different audio source in the other room. You can play the same audio source in both Zones (Main & Zone 2) or play a different audio source in each zone. Zone 2 is compatible with analog and wireless audio sources - see below for details.

Incompatible Zone 2 sources include HDMI video (all inputs),, and DSD audio files.
      • As for Network, USB, and Bluetooth sources; you cannot select different inputs for the main room and Zone 2. For example, if a Network source has been selected in the main room and then Bluetooth is selected as a playback source in Zone 2, the input in the main room will also change to the Bluetooth source.
      • When listening to AM/FM or Internet radio, you cannot select different stations for the main room and Zone 2.
    • Zone B: The Zone B preamp output lets enjoy the same source (analog, digital, wireless, or built-in) of your Main Zone in another room, or turn the Main Zone off and only listen to an audio source in Zone B. When the Main Zone and Zone B are played at the same time, you are limited to 2ch Stereo or All-Channel Stereo in the Main Zone. Zone B does not allow you to play a different source than the main zone.

Zone 3: In addition to the main listening room and Zone 2, you can also enjoy audio playback of the same source or a different source in a third room of your home using the receiver's Zone 3 function. The receiver features Zone 3 line-outputs (including a dedicated sub output), as well as Zone 3 speaker terminals. You can play the same audio source in each Zone or play a different audio source in every zone. Zone 3 is compatible with analog, network, digital (USB only), and Bluetooth audio sources - see below for details.

    • Zone 3 Outputs:

    Notes:
    • As for Network, USB, and Bluetooth sources; you cannot select different inputs for the main room, Zone 2, and Zone 3. For example, if a Network source has been selected in the main room and then Bluetooth is selected as a playback source in Zone 2 or Zone 3, the input in the main room will also change to the Bluetooth source.
    • When listening to AM/FM or Internet radio, you cannot select different stations in different Zones.

Whole House Mode: The Whole House Mode is useful when you want to simply add extra background music to your home party. This mode allows you to enjoy the same stereo music as the main room in separate rooms (Zone 2/3). The Whole House Mode selects the same input source for Zone 2 and Zone 3 as the main room. During the Whole House Mode, All Stereo playback is selected for the Main Zone and Stereo playback for the other two Zones. The Main Zone, Zone 2, and Zone 3 will all have independent volume control.

Note: Whole House Mode cannot be used if headphones are connected or audio is output from the speakers of the TV.

Google Home Multiroom: Using the Google Home app (for Apple iOS and Android OS), you can sync multiple speakers with Chromecast built-in in multiple rooms of your home to play the same song from a Chromecast built-in music app throughout your house at the same time. Friends and family can even use their own Chromecast compatible phone or tablet to cast music to your system by connecting to your home's WiFi network.

DTS Play-Fi: DTS Play-Fi combines DTS and WiFi to wirelessly stream high quality audio through out your home using the Play-Fi app for Apple iOS 10.0+, Android OS 5.0+, & Windows 7 PC or later. Supported music formats up to 24-bit/192kHz (including MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV) are wirelessly streamed to the receiver or to multiple DTS Play-Fi players at up to 16-bit/48kHz (CD quality sound). You can connect multiple DTS Play-Fi products together from different brands and manufacturers on the same home network to create a whole-home streaming experience. Play the same source in every room or a different song in each room. Due to the bandwidth limitations of most wireless networks, no more than 16 wireless DTS Play-Fi products on a single WiFi network at one given time is recommended. DTS Play-Fi has a range of up to 100' from your wireless router. Compatible sources include -
