Segantini and Arco

exhibition
Giovanni Segantini, Natura morta con cacciagione, (1880-1881), Rovereto,Mart [ MAG Museo Alto Garda]

During 2014, the MAG Alto Garda Museum has started a long-term project dedicated to the painter Giovanni Segantini, as a result of a close collaboration (carried out in 2013) with the Mart Museum of Rovereto.

The purpose of this project is to highlight Arco as Segantini's place, by putting the G. Segantini's Civic Gallery in a network of relationships which the MAG wants to establish with the main organizations that are keeping Segantini's works of art and with the researchers that deal with this artist.

Firstly, the project is expecting the renewal of the Civic Gallery's exhibition, after the opening of the stable area dedicated to the Divisionist painter in 2012. The display is consisting of two parts: one expository and traditional with paintings, graphic works and historical documents about the artist (owned by the two institutions), the other one interactive. Arco, hometown of Giovanni Segantini, is thus at the core of an international circuit of museums and public institutions owning the artist’s works of art. The opening of the updated rooms of the Gallery is scheduled on 28 March.

Moreover, on the 18th of April there will be a study day entitled "Segantini. Scritture d'alta quota" ("Segantini. High flying writings"), dedicated to the lucky criticism of the artist in the German-speaking countries. The purpose of this round table is to gather researchers from Italy, Switzerland and Austria, by involving them in a seminary debate which can be occasion for planning new starting points of research and exposition on the artist's work. The same day, the Italian translation of the first monograph about Giovanni Segantini will be presented: "Giovanni Segantini. Sein Leben und Werk" ("Giovanni Segantini. His life and work"), written by Franz Servaes in 1902, a copy of which is kept at the Civic Library "G. Emmert" of Arco.
