Windows 8.1, the latest update to the Windows 8 operating system offers several new options and some important changes to the look and feel. In this video, we'll take a look at what's new. One of the first things you will notice is the inclusion of a Start button. This performs the same action as the Windows button on your keyboard and opens the start screen.
The Start screen in Windows 8.1 shows your frequently used apps Touch the down arrow to display all of the apps installed on your computer. The live tiles can now be made smaller, down to a one by one size or reminiscent of a Windows phone tile. Click, or press, and hold a tile to rearrange its location on the Start screen.
You can now add wallpapers to the start screen. This enables fluid transitions between desktop mode, the Start screen and and back. The 'Boot to Desktop' option, which boots you right to desktop and not to the start screen, can be accessed via "Taskbar" and "Navigation properties".
Perhaps one of the biggest changes is the Bing powered search. Simply start typing on the start screen to search for apps, documents or any files. You can also use it to start searching the internet without launching a browser.
Windows 8.1 also features a customizable lock screen which lets you display a collage of your favorite images, app update info and other useful information on the lock screen. For more information on upgrading to Windows 8.1 visit Dell's support site and search for knowledge base article SLN130743.
