Origanum vulgare otherwise known as Oregano is a hardy, low growing herb with small, dark green, oval leaves on thin brittle stalks.
The small, pinky white flowers appear in summer but the plant is most appreciated for its pungent oils borne in the leaves. I
It goes well in pots and makes an attractive rockery or border plant with the leaves being used fresh in cooking and salads or dried in sprigs.
See article on "Drying Herbs".
Origanum vulgare ssp. hirtum is the most pungent and tasty, generally referred to as Greek Oregano.
