While Ganna won the stage, the main intrigue of the day was between the GC contenders that stacked up behind the Italian champion. Leading the GC charge, as expected, was the world champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) who came across the line 16 seconds down on Ganna. Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) was next best at 36 seconds off of Ganna while João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) was the third-best contender at 50 seconds down.

Beyond the main GC contenders, Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) was the other winner of the day as the slight American came through with his best time trial to date. At the end of the day, Kuss lost only 1:29 to Ganna and 1:13 to Evenepoel. Most surprisingly, Kuss lost only 11 seconds behind Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma).

With all the sea change in the GC, Kuss retained his overall lead with Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates), who also rode a fantastic time trial, in second 26 seconds down. Evenepoel is now third, 1:09 off of Kuss and 26 seconds ahead of Roglič.
