Abeni has always had the people in her life protect her, but that isn’t what she’s always wanted. In an effort to find her freedom and herself, her life has become a mountain of secrets that she works to preserve. Thus her cards have always been played close to her chest, with every move calculated. But when love becomes the prize, she finds herself revealing her hand.

Because of the loss in his past, Eli avoids anything that may potentially throw him off his game, especially people and relationships. So romance has never been in the cards for him, and that’s how he’s always liked it. However, he’s forced to reconsider when love suddenly seems worth all the risk.

When Abeni goes looking for trouble, she finds Eli. And, little do they know, an unexpected danger will forge them deeper into each other’s lives. As their well-refined rules clash, they fight to find common ground. Then, when the last thing they anticipated occurs, they find themselves no longer playing against, but with each other. With the stakes higher than they’d ever been, a change in strategies is required. Because playing as a team to win at love means breaking their rules.

ok first thing i noticed was that abeni and eli are not enemies. eli is just broody and horny. although he was unnecessarily rude at times. maddox was a nut but eli was a bitch. i’m starting to think that maybe i don’t like grumps that much. or rather the way they’re generally written. cause eli said something to abeni that fucking pissed me off and it’s like dude- UNCLENCH. but one thing that got me was was his “touch her and i’ll kill you”. i loved it🤭. and he admittedly redeemed himself in the end i can’t front

now if abeni was a real person i’d hit her with my chancla cause girl what do you mean you’re using eli’s toothbrush????? it was never that serious. anyway i enjoyed seeing her come into her own and how she was able to establish boundaries with those around her and stand on her own to feet as an individual. i admire the support system she has around her. i mean ni has a couple shooters behind her… literally🥴😭

the writing is not as clunky and awkward as in the first book but there was still a lot of fluff. i think this book could’ve been cut down by abt 50 pages easily. but i loved seeing the growth in lilie’s writing from the first book to now

but guys why can’t my fictional babies ever have good parents like annette and (i think the dad’s name was) luis are going to hell. and the former didn’t just bite the hand that was feeding her. she chewed that bitch off. and then had the audacity to be so nasty

anywayyyy VI AND ALESSIOOOOJSIQVSKDVQJSNK. i loved seeing them again like *that* scene was made just for me🤭🤭🤭. i can’t wait for their book. i need it BAD

sidebar: ne and addi are not couple goals. their relationship sounds like a nightmare. and yes, i’m projecting my values on them. they’re in college. tf are they thinking getting whola married?😭😭😭😭

check trigger warnings before reading

*i was given an arc in exchange for an honest review

Truth Game has every bit of Lilie’s signature touches. Humour, emotional turmoil, diversity, a life lesson if you look hard enough and characters that leave a mark on your heart.

Abeni and Eli really don’t make sense make sense on paper. They’re polar opposites in every way, but that’s the beauty of love, it always finds a way and Abeni and Eli were no different.

Eli is a misanthrope, he struggles with letting people in, but there’s just something about Abeni that he can’t shake. He’s forced to look within when circumstances forces them to spend more time together, which leads both of them to grapple with things they’ve long left hidden and buried.

Together they confront their uncomfortable pasts, while being hopeful for the future. With that they grow together and learn how to navigate life together, all the while revelling in their earth shattering chemistry.

4.25/5⭐

My girl published her second book! I really enjoyed this read. This is the second book in this series and I recommend you read it in order. The way the first book ended, chile I needed to know what happened, and I got my answer.

This follows Abeni, an Afro-Latina queen and Yvana’s sister. She was protected her whole life; from having very religious parents to a sister who sees the world of her. Though Abeni is appreciative of this, she’s on a mission to gain her freedom and discover who she really is. Sis is on her little self-discovery journey and I’m here for it. She loves to dance and is actually pursuing that passion in college. One night, she and her friends decides they were going to be spies for the night and do a stake out outside of a building. Here she meets Eli.

Eli is introduced in the first book and Maddox’s partner or “Eyes” and friend. He works alongside Maddox and is the only human he seems to not hate. See, Eli experience lost at a young age and therefore avoids people and relationships altogether. He avoids anything resembling love, and that’s how he likes it. At least that is what he thought.

I really enjoyed Abeni and Eli as characters. It took me a while to warm up to Abeni though. Every time I liked her, she would do something and I would be like “Abeni please, ease meh up nah.” Sometimes I was like, "girl, please use your head. There is no need for all of this." But I was also rooting for her and wanting to fulfill her dreams. I understand her need to be independent. Her own heroine. She was on her Cheetah Girls “I don’t wanna be like Cinderella” type beat. This is sort of a coming of age story for Abeni. She grew up in a very religious household, a religious West Indian household at that. People made decisions for her to protect her all her life and her being on her own was her chance to make her own decisions. She made some mistakes, but that was what made her human and is a part of discovering oneself. Sis is a 10 though because her favorite color is purple and she loves to dance, just like me. I really enjoyed her and her friends as well. They had a fun but also deep and beautiful friendship, friends who would listen to what you had going on.

Now Eli. My sweet sweet skyscraper. This man is 6’9, I still can’t believe it. His height probably makes Abeni look like she’s 5’0 when she’s actually 5’10. A man that tall should be illegal lol. Anyway, I loved Eli from the start. His protectiveness over Abeni and the way he treated her omg no wonder she fell in love. Why did he expect her not to? He may not have had the words to describe his feelings. But his actions spoke volumes about how he felt about Abeni. And one thing about me, I always look at someone’s actions to see how they truly feel. Acts of Service is my love language.

I LOVED the banter between these two. Abeni’s humor was on another level!. The things she would say to Eli had me ROLLING. I bet Lilie was laughing while writing those lines lol.

Lilie also did a good job intertwining important topics into the romance. I really liked the fact that Eli had a therapist and the conversations around growing up in a strict religious household. Annette upset me, especially as someone who is on her own journey of developing a personal relationship with God. The way she treated her daughters and the things she said about them were disgusting, but also made me sad. She did not show any love, grace or compassion to her daughters that I would expect to see and things I am currently working to show others.

Now to the epilogue. I spent a good 5 minutes contemplating whether I should read it. And I did. I can’t even be mad at my girl Lilie, because she warned me. But I’m stubborn, so I did it, anyway. All I have to say is: I don’t appreciate Lilie playing with my feelings like this and I think this is a crime (lol jk).

Overall, really enjoyed this. I would say I can’t wait for the next book, but after that cliffhanger… I’m scared. Highly recommend!

Book review: Truth Game (ARC)

Let me tell you about ABENI & ELI ……..

An Afro-Latina and a Samoan king they make one spicy 🌶️ combination!

This was a great read, so many different emotions I don’t even know where to start.

The author @liliesnotes had me laughing from the jump! From Charlie’s BACK UP angels to creepy “OLD MEN “ she had me rolling 😂!
however, The book took a few serious turns and I like that she gave you a heads up in the very beginning. I don’t want to spoil the story so I won’t speak on them, but I will say she brought some light to major issues. ……….This was a true blindsided love story with some unwanted proximity! People finding love in the most unimaginable places. While reading this book understand the thigh clamping was to a whole new level! THE KEGAL WAS KEGALING!!!

ABENI just wants to be treated like an adult and I always say be careful what you ask for! She’s tired of being coddled and wants to prove to herself any everyone else that she doesn’t need protection. However she couldn’t be anymore wrong. She finds herself in some SMUTTY adult situations . Between the lies, spy’s, and the guys she’s given a run for her money AND SO WAS I.

ELI is a loc’d tattoo Samoan hottie who happens to be a spy. He’s well disciplined and well guarded, his job entails surveying and protecting, something he is naturally good at. So when an Afro Latina needs protecting nothing will stand in his way of keeping her safe or so he thinks. The attraction is unheard of but Eli doesn’t do romance. He’s been through the ringer when it comes to matters of the heart, it’s only right that he protects it and pushes her away, or so he tries.

Vocabulary update: CLITTERFLIES 🦋🦋

Favorite quotes:

“ if you catch hell, don’t hold it. And if you’re going through hell, don’t stop. “

“ the man’s carbon dioxide summons the drool from my pu$$y without even trying. “

- Y'all Ive been waiting for this one. Congratulations on your second published novel babes!!! It was a soft love story with heavy hunching if I had to sum it up lol.

- Abeni my young lit sis! She is me and I am she. Our personalities go together REAL bad lol. Abeni is the friend that gets you into trouble but will also listen to your problems while she's dealing with her own. Not to mention she is so damn funny she clowned Eli this whole book! Oh and my Eli man.... I was struggling with him at first because Im like sir you have no reason to hate my sis. Lol but he is super protective, he's a spy and one of those ppl who wants to be judged by their actions because he didn't always have the vocabulary to express himself. My 6'9 king🧎🏾‍♀️🧎🏾‍♀️

- I really loved Abeni humor omg! I loved the relationship she had with her friends. I loved that she wanted to be her own heroine. Eli was so sweet lol. He said he's a misanthrope but as soon as he seen his "thickness" wasn't anything but love for her lol. Watching him fold like a lawn chair for her was so cute! That's my favorite part of enemies to lovers. My whole thing was Eli job was confusing me. I was trying so hard to follow along but certain parts I had to reread like 3 times. It was other things that bothered me but didn't take away from my love of the book.

- Id definitely recommend after you've finished book 1.

If I could give this book ten stars I would!! This is book number two in this series and it was excellently written! This is Abeni and Eli’s journey and it was a captivating and entertaining journey! It was sexy, action packed and emotional but not overly. Abeni is tired of everyone trying to coddle her and treat her like she’s made out of glass! She wants to prove that she knows how to take care of herself and can handle things going on in her life. Eli is very stand-offish and aloof because he’s all about keeping his focus on his job as a spy. Right now his job is to protect Abeni. Let’s just say that the sparks burned hot between these two. Will Abeni be the one person to put a chink in Eli’s armor and melt his frozen heart or will he let her go? Looking forward to reading what’s next.

ok ok

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Abeni is tired of everyone trying to baby her. Everyone protects/coddles her and she wants to prove she can handle things on her own. Eli is closed off so he can focus on his job. His current job is to protect Abeni. His heart had been frozen for so long Abeni is the one to unthaw it for her. I absolutely loved Eli he gave off real BDE while remaining soft at times for Abeni. Can’t wait to read what’s up next.

Advanced reader copy.

While I enjoyed reading about Abeni and Eli. She got on my nerves because of her constant willingness to go against Eli. It was like she didn’t understand his protective nature and wanted to test his limits. While he explained to her upfront that he couldn’t give her what she was looking for his actions contradicted that and if she was mature I believe she would have understood this especially when he advised her that he had never kissed anyone nor had he ever had unprotected sex and the way he protected her taking her in and providing her protection as soon as he found out that her life was in danger, furnishing and making an entire floor a studio for her in his home. These were all things that a mature woman would not have questioned and would have realized ok yeah he may not be able to express his feelings but he is definitely falling for me, he has feelings for me. I love Eli and how he grew throughout the book and was able to soften his heart and show his love for Abeni but also tell her and also reconcile his relationship with his grandfather.

I felt like the story had so much other stuff going on but I cannot wait to read about the next couple in the series!!!

This one, I didn't know whether to root for the main couple or not. Dude was interested from the moment he saw her, but he kept saying she couldn't handle everything he had to offer, but then kept popping up and making the girl fall more and more in love with him all while he kept acting like a relationship was not in the cards for them. Even though he couldn't stand the thought of her being with anyone else. Ugh, gag.

I did like how he was with her after they finally GOT in a relationship. They were mad cute, but I rated it so low because he pops up after her shift and KIDNAPS her! Like no explanation for her, and she's literally distraught because at this point she doesn't know him for real still, it had just been her pussy talking for her before, and he's all "I would never hurt you" but how are WE supposed to know that?! Even when it's revealed he's a spy, his actions make sense to him, but not to her because he's big on secrets.

The way he acted in the beginning would have been a turn off for me, but she was eating it up. So there ya go. I especially didn't like when he kept telling her he wasn't a relationship kinda guy and kept saying "I know that's what you're looking for" but all she wanted was a hookup, which she said multiple times. Like stop telling her what she's looking for when she told you all she wanted was something casual. And their age gap was a bit big for me, which wouldn't be a problem if they didn't keep emphasizing it.

There's just something about Lilie's books that just make me feel at home; maybe it's the Caribbean touch that she added that made it so relatable and just sent my imagination into hyperdrive because I am fully seeing everything play out scene for scene in my head.

Truth Game follows Abeni and Eli who was introduced to us in book 1 On Time. Abeni grew up in a very religious household and has been sheltered her whole life by her parents and sis, Yvana, whom she was introduced to when she was around 8/9. Though she is grateful for her sister and all that she has done for her, she wants to experience life on her terms which she later finds out just how life can be when you try to live it on your own. Eli has his demons fighting and for some reason believes he can't love or deserves love but, we see that he chooses to live this way until he can no longer avoid it because of Abeni. I loved the two of them together and Eli won me over with his little forehead kisses and words of affirmation. That man can deny all he wants about not being capable of giving affection but his actions say otherwise.

Without giving away any spoilers I hate Annette and such man with a passion. Every time Annette opened her mouth I wanted to slap her and the man, from he appeared I just knew he was up to no good.

As a fellow Caribbean, this book gave me all the feels which made me love it even more and I cannot wait to see what Lilie will give us next.
