Bitterling

Rhodeus sericeus

Description 2

The bitterling is a small species of fish with a relatively high back and half-open mouth. The body protects large scales, the pores of the incomplete lateral line are recognizable only on the first 4 to 7 scales behind the head. Most of the year the back is gray-green in color, the sides and belly are silvery. Over the middle of the pages, an opalescent strip of blue-green color runs. In the spawning season, the colors of the male intensify - throat, chest and front of the abdomen are reddish, back and hindlegs shimmer green. In two places above the eyes and the mouth appear spawning warts and behind the gill covers each a bruise.
