Earl R. Gilbert

Earl R. Gilbert, 93, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Columbia Cottage with his loving wife by his side.

Born May 4, 1929, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Livingston S. and Alverta I. (Carr) Gilbert.  Earl was the loving husband of Betty L. (Warner) Gilbert with whom he shared 71 years of marriage.  

Earl was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Hanover, PA. 

Earl was a farmer, carpenter, worked at Wertz’s garage in Lineboro, MD and Finch’s in Hanover, as well as the Hanover Hospital.  He also painted and hung wallpaper.

Earl enjoyed tending his flower beds, traveling to Florida to see family, mowing, painting, and wallpapering.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Betty, Earl is survived by his sons, Daniel R. Gilbert and wife Cecelia of Woodlawn, VA, Jerry A. Gilbert and wife Shirley of Hanover, PA; three grandchildren, Gary Gilbert, Shelley Mathias, and Ashley Lippy, 15 great grandchildren; and one brother, James Gilbert of Sebring, FL.  He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Gwen Kelly and Ben Bortner, and his twin brother, Merle Gilbert and two half-brothers, Vernon Gilbert, and Donald Gilbert.

A graveside service will be held 10 AM, Monday, September 12, 2022, at St. David’s Church Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with his Pastor the Rev. Dom Aquilino officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Earl’s name to Calvary Bible Church Missions Fund, 603 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331.
