Eid Al Fitr, also known as the Festival of Breaking the Fast, is one of the most significant religious festivals for Muslims around the world. It marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy. This year, the dates for Eid Al Fitr 2023 in the UAE have been confirmed by an astronomer, giving residents something to look forward to.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, has astronomically confirmed that Friday, April 21, will be the first day of Shawwal and thus mark the occasion of Eid Al Fitr. The first day of Eid Al Fitr will fall on Thursday.

The government has not yet agreed to the dates confirmed by Al Jarwan, but if they do so, then official holidays will most likely start on Friday, April 21, and last till Monday, April 24. Making for a four-day weekend this will provide ample time for Muslim families across the GCC to indulge in the joyous celebrations of Eid Al Fitr.

Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid Al Fitr in their own unique ways, but some common practices are followed. The day begins with a special prayer, known as Salat Al Eid which is held early in the morning at local mosques or designated prayer grounds. After the prayer, Muslims visit friends and family, exchange greetings and gifts, and enjoy a delicious feast together.

Eid Al Fitr is a time of forgiveness and reconciliation, and it is customary for Muslims to seek forgiveness from each other for any wrongdoings that may have occurred during the year. They also give to charity and help the less fortunate, fulfilling the Islamic duty of Zakat, which is giving a portion of one's wealth to those in need.

Eid Al Fitr is a public holiday, and people of all nationalities and religions join in the celebrations. Malls and shops offer special discounts, and restaurants and hotels prepare special Eid menus and events. The festive atmosphere is contagious, and the whole country comes alive with joy and happiness.
