Close cousins with the chinchilla, the lesser known degu is certainly an interesting pet. In the wild they live in small to large family groups and they forage for wild mountain grasses and flowers to eat. In captivity these high energy rodents do best in pairs and need comparatively large enclosures to properly exercise and explore. With regular handling these rodents can be quite easily tamed and they make great pets for some one who is interested in something that is just a little different.
