Common valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a tall British native herbacious perennial that produces masses of small pink to white sweet scented flowers throughout the summer months. Its bright green pinnate leaves are also aromatic so this plant is a real treat for the senses in any bog garden. It is also an excellent plant for pollinators, in particular all types of bee, butterfly and hoverflies, and is the food plant for the larvae of several species of moth. It is widely used in herbal medicine to help sleep amongst other things. Hardy to -10C.
