The Aquacultured Common Oscar Cichlid (Asstronotus ocellatus) is an elegant beauty perfect for intermediate hobbyists and cichlid enthusiasts. This is a fish that can grow up to 14 inches, thus it needs a large aquarium home. Like other oscar cichlids, it prefers to spend time hiding and seeking refuge from the light, so make sure to include in its new aquarium home a few drift wood decorations that create caves for it to seek shelter. Doing this will ensure that your new oscar cichlid feels right at home. This is a moderately aggressive fish that can potentially eat small fishes and crustaceans, so exercise caution when selecting its tank mates. Keep it in optimal health by feeding it multiple times a day a variety of frozen meaty foods and pellets.
