Salad Burnet, aka Sanguisorba Minor, is a perennial member of the rose family, Roseceae. It originates in Europe, but is spreading as it gains popularity around the globe. This plant is delicious and versatile; it tastes exactly like cucumber. The leaves make an excellent addition to salad and soup, and can also be pulverized and steeped in water overnight to create a refreshing and tasty drink. The plant is not frost tender, so the leaves can be harvested 12 months a year. Salad Burnet is a great plant to have in any perennial or winter garden.

  • Growing Instructions

    Salad Burnet seeds can be sown directly in the ground or in pots 6-8 weeks before last frost. Otherwise, plants can be stratified one the fridge for 2-4 weeks in the fridge before sowing to speed up germination. They can sown without stratification, but it takes much longer, and germination rate won't be very good. Seeds are best sown 1/8 inch beneath the soils surface. Once transplanted and established, These plants will live for many years assuming you live in zone 4 or warmer. Plants don’t require much once established other than water and mulch. This plant prefers to grow in full sun, and soil that drains free from water. The plants are tolerant of pests, drought, and flood.
